Wheres my notification gang at? Let me know where youre from and make sure to like and share this video! If this video gets to over 5000 thumbs up i will upload another abandoned mall video ;)
Three generations of my family worked at this mall! My mom was at Sears from 1977-2005, my sister in the mid-1980s at Woolworth's, me at JCPENNEY from 1995-1998 (left right after the renovations were done so I remember the red carpet in the mall all too well). My child worked at Regal for the last month they were open at the end of 2021. A lot of memories!
It breaks my heart to see these beautiful pieces of memory and history just being abandoned like that . With all the life that use to pass through the malls halls and having its stores full of shoppers . now it’s just a echo and shell of a distant past. :( . If buildings could speak ….
This is literally the mall from from my childhood. My parents both worked at that mall from the 70's through 90's. I saw SO many movies at both the indoor and outdoor(connected) theaters at that mall. I remember decorating poster board egg shells and they would hang them from the ceiling. I remember going to Scotto's Pizza. I remember going to Woolworths there. I've been by there multiple times over the years and took photos/videos of the outside of the mall. I'm completely heartbroken that after all the money they poured into the mall during the renovation in the late 90's... they're tearing it down. I will miss that mall so much. Thank you so much for taking this video. I wish I could have been with you to walk through this mall one last time.
I’m so sad malls are closing. I was born in 1976 and my whole life they were the place to be! Thank you for documenting these malls before they are gone forever. What is Rick’s RU-vid channel?
OMG!!! I used to visit this mall on a regular basis from the time it opened all the way to shopping the liquidation sales when it was closing. Thnx Steve for taking me down memory lane :)
I grew up in Cleveland. There were many malls around the area, Richmond, Rolling Acres, Parmatown, Westgate etc. It does bring back memories. At the beginning of this video, before you mentioned that you were from another state, I already knew by your pronunciation of Cuyahoga.😂 Thanks for the video.
That mall is still in great condition. One of the best I've seen in any of these abandoned mall videos. It looks like It could still operate as a mall with a little bit of clean up.
I hasn't been close long and immediately at the point of it closing me development started around it so it's pretty untouched because the area is really active and the new owners frequent the surrounding development.
Man this hits home. Just like you said, I grew up with my family taking me to the mall. Times were sure different back then. The mall we always went to is still open, but I haven't been in several years. You've made me realize that I really need to go while I still can.
I used to shop at this mall before the pandemic. I remember plenty of stores like Claire's, Rainbow, Shoe Department, New York and Company, Victoria's Secret, an Avon Kiosk, Bath and Body Works, just a name a few.
That abandoned mall is in remarkably good shape and is actually very clean. Thanks for your videos! They are very respectful to the properties you visit and your videos are very professioanlly done!
It's kind of sad and strange to think about all the memories I've had in malls in my life - then to think about the fact that most malls will be gone in the next 10 years. Such a big part of growing up in the early 2000's and having these as a hangout spot with friends. Also, I'm from Ohio and I have never heard of that Exit store either.
I am originally from that area and have been to that mall, stores, food court and movie theater numerous times and did not know it was abandoned - scheduled to be torn down. Wow, so many memories lie inside there!!
That mall just closed not to long ago. The planet fitness is still open. Back in the 80s there were 3 huuuuuge malls about 5 miles from each other and all were always packed! Richmond, Severance closed but Beachwood Mall still open with Dillards and Saks 5th Ave as anchor stores.
I grew up going to that mall and movie theater. I miss it. But I’m really glad they are repurposing it. The JC Pennys or Macys has storage units in it now. Thanks for letting me see it one last time. A lot of the stores changed there in the last 15 years and none of us had heard of them
Dude, I went to this mall ALL THE TIME as a kid. Hanging around the GameStop just to look at all the games and occasionally buy a GBA Pokémon when they didn’t cost a thousand bucks, seeing movies with my family, getting free samples of Anne Ann’s, poking around the FYE despite being way to young to understand much of what I was looking at in there and grabbing chicken teriyaki fried rice from the food court (shoutout to Osaka, the cashier lady was always happy to see me and the food was delicious coming after a long day of high school). The last time I was in there they had posters saying stuff along the lines of “the mall isn’t dying! We’re getting ready for bigger and better times!” I and nobody else believed it. Absolutely tragic to see it like this but at least some of its memory is preserved in this video.
I grew up right down the street from here. I haven't lived in Cleveland for decades, but I remember walking through this mall... sad Americana that is slipping away much like drive-in movie theater's did.
Malls were the hotspot of my generation! I’m sorry to see them close brick and mortar stores and malls😢. I’ve never been to that mall but I’ve been to a hundred others. Great video! I’m from NC.
Luckily the malls in my area are still booming around the Louisville Kentucky area.St.Matthews mall and Oxmour mall in Louisville is always slammed packed especially on the weekends. It’s crazy how in certain parts of the US malls are dying.Even with online shopping I still like to visit the mall from time to time.
Oh wow! I lived in Richmond and Mayfield Hts back in the 70’s! The Richmond Mall I remember was smaller back then…. So Richmond Town Sq. Was expanded (obviously) in ver the years! How things change…..lol! Thanks for sharing this video! ❣️
Thank you for showing the mall. I grew up a few miles away. I worked at the JCPenney for 2 years. I have so many memories of going there especially sears, penneys
Hello Steve. I've only been subscribed for a month or so. Heard Angelo talking about your channel. So I looked you up. Glad to be here, loved the video of this mall. It's so sad that kids today won't have such places to hang out. Please be safe out there.
I grew up just about 15 minutes away from this mall down the hill in Euclid, another Cleveland suburb. I remember the original mall design as a kid and when this mall was renovated in the late 90s. Interestingly I grew up near another mall that has since been demolished (Euclid Square Mall) and that mall declined as the tenants moved to Richmond Town Square. I was a frequent visitor to the movie theater you went to almost every weekend with my mom and my uncle. I had a lot of great memories in the mall and the food court and it’s sad to see the mall gone for good.
Hi Steve I’m in the Uk. Really enjoy watching all your films. Sometimes with my granddaughter who is 8. She always says your a beautiful boy 🤣🤣. This was very interesting explore
This was one of two of my childhood/young adult malls. I remember it differently, as I remember it before it was renovated. I was at the theater pre-Covid and it seemed pretty nice. I had heard the theater was going to stay a part of the new development but guess not. Thanks for the share!
Would frequent Richmond mall throughout my high school years, definitely went down hill in the 2010s and could only hold tenants that were lesser known. The middle of the food court had a merry-go-round and once had an A&W which I always looked forward to! The movie theater was probably the only living aspect of the mall for at least a decade.
That place was pretty cool. The theater was really cool, very retro looking. It was kind of eerie and a little spooky seeing a place thats usually packed and busy, and empty and abandoned! weird! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Steve. I'm in Orange County Southern California. LoL. You won't be able to start the security golf carts. They need to be hooked up to a charging station. I learned that when I worked at Knott's Berry Farm, during Haunt construction. I was licensed to drive those carts then. Super fun to operate. LoL. My Mom was from Ohio. Newport to be exact. I've still got 4 Aunt's, 1 Uncle, and cousins all over Ohio, so I shared this video to my Facebook page for them to comment on. I'll add their comments here as they post.
Such a nice mall, I bet that was the place to be in the 80’s and 90’s( looks like a 90’s restyle or that’s when it was built and opened). Some malls are still thriving, but others didn’t make it. I love that here in Memphis all malls that closed are torn down eventually , rather than allowed to sit there.. Edit: I see that that mall is to be torn down also.. glad you guys got to capture it !
I was the Director of Public Safety there from June 5,2005 until it closed. When Simon sold it, it’s slow death was imminent. I miss that place, a lot of memories.
Lived in the area in 2012-14. I saw several movies at the theater - Skyfall, Django Unchained, and more. I remember it always being clean and well-maintained. It still looks great!
This is such an awesome upload! I grew up with this mall and it brings back good memories. A lot of the stores you aren't familiar with are small businesses that took over spaces that were formerly well known brands such as Foot Locker. Also, RTS isn't the largest mall in Ohio. It is one of the largest, but not the largest. Other Ohio malls such as SouthPark Mall and the now closed Cincinnati Mills are bigger.
@@chicogozosodecabellosedoso It isn't like this in other countries. But, in America at least it's because of online shopping, places with cheaper prices, and places like Walmart or Target that have everything.
Literally saw a video this afternoon of this same mall-it was trashed! I am glad you found it in such good condition. BTW-you have greatly improved in your videos!
no way!! my boyfriend lives in cleveland & i’ve always wanted to explore all the abandoned places when i visit. we had no idea this retro gem was hidden just a little bit away🥺
How sad to see a beautiful place like that go!!! I’m so glad you were able to capture it before it got demolished. Really appreciated you sharing! Keep up the great work.
I used to walk to this mall on my lunch break to eat at the food court in the early 2000s. I’ve also seen movies at that theater. So sad to see everything closing up.
This was a great mall...glad you vlogged it! I remember there was also a fye, ruby tuesdays, etc in here as well! If I knew you were coming to Cleveland I could recommend you visit some of the places I have explored in the area
When my oldest daughter was younger I use to give her $5.00 and it was enough for her to go to the drug store next to the movies 🎥. She would get her snacks there go over to the movies 🍿 pay to get in and still have a quarter left over to call me when the movie was over to come pick her and her friends up! This was a great video! Loved 🥰 the whole thing! Thanks 😊! Looks like that mall could still be renovated??!! But I don’t understand why just about all mall’s close up ?! We have one in Slidell, Louisiana off Airport Road closed up !
Aww what a beautiful mall! its sad to see malls are closing. They were place to be and hang out back when I was in junior high(2003-2004) sad...wished we appreciated it more. ❤
I grew up right down the road from this mall. the theatre used to be an AMC i worked there in HS. the restaurant you went in was actually a Ruby Tuesdays that my hockey captains and I went to before games to have a chat before games in 2005. it was a tradition for my senior year that i cherished with my fellow captains.
It's such a shame that malls are closing. I live in NJ, which has a lot of malls like this one. NJ also has a lot of strip malls, which is a row of stores. This is a beautiful mall, it must've been really nice when in full operation. Thanks for bringing back and saving the memories!
I used to love to people watch there, from the upper level, during Christmas. It had such a festive atmosphere. Then they closed down the second level and that, in my opinion, was the beginning of it's end. Woolworth's was the bomb!!! Best fish sandwich in the world.
There use to an Arcade in the mall. Parents would drop off their kids either at the movies or Arcade so they could shop. At Christmas time the large court was used for Santa and Christmas displays. Funny part about the Arcade and movie theater. You could always find someone who would keep an eye on the kids . 😆
I'm very disappointed that malls are closing along with my favorite stores. I hate shopping online. I want to see, touch and try on what I'm buying. Shipping things back and forth is a pain. Other than Sears and JC Penney I didn't recognize a single store/restaurant there. Beautiful architecture though. Great explore. 👍❤️
At first, because of the outside of the movie theater, I thought it was the Magic Johnson theater at the Randall Park mall, which I knew the interior had been gone for a while
It feels very odd seeing it like this. I have so many memories from this place, particularly Friday nights at the movies as a teenager. Thank you for giving us one last look.
I'm surprised the Exton Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania isn't looking like this. I mean, almost every store there is closed. They've got like, not even ten stores left, and that's including food places. They've got a Round One arcade which apparently has been there since 2016, which is actually kinda surprising that it's even still there to this day considering that it's letting itself go downhill rather quickly. Honestly, I think the arcade is basically the only reason the place is somehow still open. Because if that place were to shut down one day then nobody would have a reason to go to the Exton Mall, which would quickly result in the rest of the places in the mall shutting down, and that would mean that the Exton Mall would be gone completely.
Sad news Steve, that's a shame. Really nice looking mall too. Glad to see there has been little vandalism. I heard that loud bang too. Wonder what it was. Really like the theming in the theatre. Pretty awesome Steve.
Omg I went to that place so many times before moving out of state in 2008. Saw soo many movies there Pirates 1, Xmen, Disney Movies. Randall Park Mall 10 miles away was much bigger than Richmond though. Man hurts my heart a little, I visited Richmond back before the renovation in the 90s when they had 2 small cinemas next door to each other. Crazy
I used to work for sesrs auto center !! The Chinese place was absolutely amazing!! Used to be my favorite place to grab lunch!! Definitely a trip down memory lane I worked for planet fitness
@Steve the computer in the mall security office didn't turn on probably because you didn't turn on the power strip under the monitor. Those big flat power strips were popular in the 80s and 90s. i still use one because i like the retro look.
Harrisburg Pa here. There's 3 Malls in my area. Two of them are on the verg of being tore down and turn into something else. The one mall has 2 anchor stores which will stay once the mall is gone
I have never been to this mall, but I started watching Urbex videos during covid because a suggested video popped up that was an explore from a mall in the small town I grew up in. I didn't even know Urbex was a thing back then. Now I regularly watch about half a dozen explorers. :) I appreciate seeing different things that I would never probably see on my own. 😊
Very cool explore! I love malls and yes they were a big part of my childhood. We also have an closed mall but quite a few store took over but the inside mall with 2 floors is all closed up. So sad
It's really strange how this mall and others like it are going under or have gone under, but malls like Baybrook mall in Friendswood Tx are going strong
My father worked for B&R as an electrical engineer and took us to the groundbreaking of Baybrook Mall when I was about 4yr old. We went back many times while being built and I remember my parents when to a huge celebration for the grand opening. It’s still going stronger than ever! They added so much! Other than my college years and ten yrs in nyc; that mall has been a part of my 45yr of life!
Cool video I use to sneak food into theaters too lol. Just wondering if you guys are going back too the glass mansion see if you can go inside always like your videos
@Steve, some of the stores might be Mom and Pop clothing stores not a national chain store or just local chains, that's why people won't recognize it if you've not from the the area.
I actually live really close to this place. It's becoming "luxury apartments..." something we don't need. It amazes me that everything was fine, but as soon as the pandemic hit, they closed.
