Hello. I'm from Germany and I've taken up the task of translating the paper Josh found in the basement. It seemed to be some kind of political pamphlet advising the country’s citizens to not vote for “Jospeh Stoeckel”; a man I've never heard of before. If anyone is interested in the content of the letter; here comes the translation: Voters Of Wittisheim “Reminisce” was written on the blue page pamphlet of Mister Joseph Stoeckel. To “reminisce” means regression and anxiety of facing the future. But to him it meant something along the lines of thinking of oneself. Starvelings and scrimpers are known to be totally opposed to societal progress. They would rather bungle and work incoherently than to witness the success of other individuals. We do not want to be associated with men fitting said description. They would be the cause of the retrogression of the society of our country. That must not be. Considering that we expect every reasonable citizen to refrain from electing Joseph Stoeckel.

Starvelings and Scrimpers are known to be totally opposed to societal progress. They would rather work incoherently than to witness the success of Others! My oh my oh my that is Shrewd and Rude! They were basically the same people that the wealthy see as peasants today! What choice did they really have than to work incoherently in a society where money was created to control people? Starvers probably weren't even given a Chance. Politics haven't changed. The Good Old Fashioned Divide and Conquer Persists! Sure they did appreciate the success and Luxury of others even while they were left out! Thanks for the Translation. Both intrigued and disheartened. Society needs to Change. WOW! 😞

@bluefernlove
@bluefernlove 5 лет назад
@@ranstxx yeah but if you turn these places into part co-living areas part venue, that would cover the maintenance and then some. Imagine the possibilities, turn a wing into a cultural venue, rent it for expositions, fashion shows, workshops, retreats, etc. Another wing for housing. Some rooms could be rented at a moderate price for artists, others could be rented via Air-bnb, others could be provided in exchange for part time work as staff members to homeless people or refugees who need a break. Those places usually have enough land for small organic farms and orchards. That could cover some of the feeding costs and if there's surplus that could be sold to local markets and restaurants. They could have sponsorships from eco firms to help them run the place on clean energy, solar and geothermal heating, that should cover a chunk of the electrical and heating costs. I could go on, but you get the picture. There's always a way to make things work.

Hey Josh, This is Carrie again, your art history professor. Please get more history on these fantastic chateaus you are exploring before you go so you can let us know it while you are filming. The architecture is phenomenal. Just an FYI - servants quarters where always on the top floor (not in the attic) in the less adorned rooms (the ones you pointed out) with communal baths. Knowing the full history of the chateau would tell what those shower stalls are in the basement. They look much newer than the original house. As always love your explorations.

The real name of this mansion is Château Burrus. It was built by Maurice Burrus, a tobacco tycoon. He hated the Germans and refused to sell them tobacco. Because of this, he was imprisoned for 8 months, and his mansion, Château Burrus was seized and sold. The mansion is a historical landmark, and I would guess is owned by the city or state. Here is the wiki link about the actual mansion: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_Burrus and here is a wiki link to the man himself: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Burrus

Those top floors were often servants rooms--hence the narrow staircases and the "hidden" look--meant to be discreet. There were usually secondary staircases to all floors in such homes--servants not allowed on the main staircases except when cleaning or on specific errands for the family like bringing breakfast to someone.

You are very lucky, and you have Stromae as well. I lived in Paris for three years with my mother when I was a teen. I was constantly blown away by the age of buildings, streets, towns, the culture itself when I lived in France. I'm from New Zealand. We have nothing historically beautiful that is man made in this way. The Kiwi in me would treasure such a place and raise the community to take care of this old bastiment. But to the locals this place is one in a plethora of old ruined places, many much older, though I am heraartened by the saviour of La Mothe Chandeniers www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/french-chateau-de-la-mothe-chandeniers-castle-adoption-crowdfunding-dartagnans-a8097141.html

Those are NOT urbexers, writing on walls; no real urbexer would ever do that. Those are trash tourists. Just going somewhere and making a video doesn't make you an urbexer. Don't reveal town names when you post videos; it isn't even necessary to name the country. Don't take any outside/distance shots that might be clues to locations - including looking out of windows to the town below. No distance shots of the building itself. Don't reveal family names or anything else that might help vandals find a location. Don't expect to be taken seriously by urbexers. Never show how you entered a building. Do know that you are helping vandals and arsonists if you don't follow urbex rules. That place was absolutely pristine not that many years ago; this is what happens when people reveal locations. So much destruction and vandalism over the last ten-fifteen years; places even burnt down to the ground. Assholes/websites online even posting GPS coords to these places...unbelievable. This is why none of the real urbexers will even post anymore, except in secret forums where they know each other; at least we can try to protect the locations that aren't yet all over RU-vid and the internet. Sorry, kids, the internet has ruined urbexing and far too many locations. You're 20 years too late.

The showers in the basement were probably for the servants. They might have had rooms down there. I'd guess it would have been for groundskeepers, scullery maids and such. The third or fourth floor probably housed the house servants. Maids, butlers, cooks, etc.

think maybe it was in a working class town or something along those lines and maybe the servants bathed there before entering the house properly? Like maybe they had more than just this job? idk I'm still trying to research XD But the servant quarters are defintely on the third floor because that's where majority are located in Chateau's. I remember learning that in Art History class.

Mystery: The wealthy tobacco man bought the house in 1900’s, he died in the 1950’s, leaving the house and his items alone. He most likely used the wagons showed in the video out of the other seven families who bought it thus using it for farming and tobacco growing reasons. (If the man died from disease or illness, I highly doubt that the other families would use it considering that they wouldn’t want to get the disease or illness either. Seems normal until you reach 14:56 when you see a reflector on a wagon in the basement. Now keep in mind that the man died in the 1950’s and safety reflectors weren’t invented till the 1960’s by a farmer by the name of Arvi Lehti. Lehti invented the reflectors because he wanted to protect his carriages and horse carts. Did the man live longer than just the 1950’s? Please let me know by replying to my comment. Have fun trying to solve it!

What makes me angry is the people who own pieces of History like this and allow it to Decay and fall apart and get vandalized. It's messed up and really honestly fills me with real anger. One of the only Pony Express stations still standing in the United States is in my hometown and the Historical Society has done nothing to protect it. it's in this guy's field and he literally lets his cows wander in and s**t all over it and put holes in the floor and it deeply angers me. They don't deserve to have this property if they can't take care of it. Just like those countries in the Middle East that destroy ancient history that belongs to the world because they feel like it's "idolatry" to keep them standing. Like Palmyra and how it was destroyed by ISIS and we don't even know what we've lost because it wasn't cataloged or documented yet. Countries that allow that to happen have proven that they cannot take care of World Treasures and so do not deserve to have them. Period. End of story. You don't deserve it if you won't take care of it.

I visited in June 2019. I was super excited beforehand as I come all the way from South Africa. I took the back way through the forest, got over the fence that was trampled down and entered the grounds. To my disappointment, all entrances where barricaded. There was also security cameras. One door was slightly open, although barricaded, and I could see the the huge lounge with light pouring in from the upper window. Although greatly disappointed, I felt honored to have visited this great urbex site.
