It breaks my heart when places like this are abandoned. I’m sure the family would have loved to stay. When the main bread winner passes away the rest of the family suffers in many ways. I pray that they find comfort and have somewhere safe to live. 😢

How devastating that he passed an they had to move! I hope they were able to find a nice, safe place! Such unexpected I'm sure!! what makes me saddest is knowing how many homeless around the US (an only getting worse ) an many never expecting to be an even working... An there's so many places just "sitting, abandoned!" It's so sad!

You're right that first room would have been the formal living room and the small paneled room would have been the man's den/office. The large room with the fireplace would have been the family room. For those of us not wealthy and in smaller homes we called ours the den. The rocks by the door were flower/plant beds. That was a thing in the 70's. The down stairs would have been the Rumpus room. A sort of den/game room usually for teens. The downstairs bedrm. would have been the guest room. The large room upstairs would have been the master, remember 70's ideas were a bit different and bathrooms used to be smaller than today! The bat thing is a juggling batton there would have been a set of them four or more. The chain was used for hanging plants. Love that fireplace!! In the 70's nobody hung the TV on the wall, remember we didn't have flat screens then. TVs were bulky in design. Sombody took the mantle probably a very nice one.

I’m not sure if someone else commented this yet but usually in bigger houses or mansions- if there is a smaller staircase adjacent or straight to the kitchen other than the main staircase- it is usually “butler’s stairs” or “servant’s stairs” for people who hired extra help.

After watching so many videos like this, then finding out the story that the families left after a loved one passed away, it's crazy to think about how many people don't have mortgage insurance, basically if your loved one passes away and they were on the mortgage the house gets paid off, by the bank.

What saddens me most about these videos of abandoned properties is thinking that once people lived happily in these spaces, noisy children ran and played, and today there is only silence and desolation. And the soundtracks you put in the videos make us even sadder. And I wonder where are these people who survived? Are they okay?

The first thing I wondered is what about his insurance? He must have had life insurance?! What about insurance on the mortgage? We may never know but often, in these specific circumstances, the mortgage is insured against death or income loss. Also, you’d think a man as prominent as him, would have a rather large life insurance policy that could have paid off the house and any other debts. Was someone doing this well, and in his 50’s, not prepared at all to take care of his family? I’d love to find out!

The backstory is almost entirely fake. The owners are still around. They chose to downsize rather than deal with deferred maintenance on a ~7500 square foot house. Carter's sympathetic story is to get you to watch a video of debris so worthless the prior owners left it behind as they downsized.

I remember that old linoleum flooring from the 70's. I had some like that. It was easy to maintain. I did have a dog that had a phobia of linoleum. He refused to walk on it. He'd walk on any other kind of flooring except linoleum. He'd be walking throughout the house just fine, until he'd reach that linoleum and then he'd just literally freeze in place. 😂😅

This is a very well-done video. You used some good production this time but most importantly you treated a real human trajedy with total respect. This is such a sad tale. I'm 77 now and moved out of a house with a lot of stairs because I worried about heart attack. What a short career after undergraduate school, medical school, internship/residency, and then specialty training in surgery, He had to be late 20s or early 30s when he started practice.

The outside design reminds me of some apartment buildings in my local area. 2 things I noticed that you didn't say anything about. If the husband died in his 40s then the family probably left either the late 70s or early 80s. Which means someone else has been staying there. Those toothbrushes in the basement are within the last few years and the food in the pantry are modern also. With the fact that it looks like some remodeling has been done I'm guessing someone has lived in the house recently. Also that thermostat is very modern. Just my guess. But within the last year I'd say it had been occupied.

Yes!!! Mottled with gold style mirrors at the back of your bar and in other parts of the house was the fashion in the 1970’s. Bars in the house generally were a lot more posher in style back then, than they are today. You displayed at the back on nice shelves, interesting liquor bottles that you bought overseas. And genuine wood paneling was considered a luxury. If u didn’t have the cash, you had fake wood. The record collection indicates that the family left in the 1980’s. Murals on the walls started out in the 1950’s. My mum hated them and had a big nice Autumn Scene removed from our new house’s living room. They were still seen in the 70’s tho. And indoor rocks garden, that’s another 1970’s feature. There would have been plants.
