I literally am watching the guy who bought cerro gordo and this reminds me of it Note: I have not watched this dude in a year, I stopped right after I made this comment
Getting food, fuel, and other utilities (water, electric, communications equipment) is the biggest problem. Rebuilding requires mareials and access. I think that discourages many people. It does sound good at first.
That’s why it should be up to the individual to be innovative when obtaining one of these properties. Also a need factor has to be in place, sure while some of the properties I’ve seen in this video is pretty much history, there’s still a lot of homeless people that could benefit from properties like these.
Actually there’s one person that lives in Wittenoom, there was a short documentary on the town and the guy. He works for the government taking weather readings. As long as he doesn’t stir up the asbestos he should be fine and that’s his plan. If it were to be populated again, with extra movement it would be come deadly
While I'm certainly down for the Italian village, the place is France is CRAZY!!! Giving it away and you can renovate it for twenty mil? Hell even 50 mil renovation you could have an awesome restored 19th century town with homes for 200 people. There has to be some other issues with the place. Thats too good to be true.
Lol I feel like this narrator lives in a very strict and quiet place. He kept saying "you could make as much noise as you want" as a major selling point
It's possibly a former mining town. Mining towns always have a tragic history. Some tragedies are due to the ores not being plentiful over a period of time. The horrific ones involve ground and water contamination.
Yep i couldnt remember the name of it their are some towns that are for sale tho but not that one their was 1 by silverton not to long ago and winterfest knocked out another one because as a kid i lived their so yea they didnt do their home work
The problem in the U.S. is all the rules and requirements to get stuff. I found offers for "free" everything online and when I called all the numbers, all the rules prevented me from getting anything. The rules cancel almost everyone out. They should not offer free things, when it is nearly impossible to get it.
Remember: "If it sounds too good to be true." RU-vid is full of bogus videos and health ads. In fact, they can't run these specious ads on national TV.
This is a common misconception all round the world. There are homes in Italy for one euro but they must be renovated. Renovation costs? Half a million.
@@aragornthebrave thats stretching it severely , thats taking advantage of a comparative model and using it to fuck people over where as a phone deal is bringing in new customers at a fair price
HardAnall Jr. it isn’t stretching it at all, it is a perfect comparison. The value of a town is is 1000’s time that of a phone, just as the cost of renovation is 1000’s times more expensive as the phone plan is.
ehm... no? You will live just as you would right now, you would just not be allowed to purchase and move into a different town (You could still move into a different home inside this town). Personally, I never planned to move to a different city, to begin with, so I would have lived in my home town for life unless I got an amazing offer like this where I am literally being paid to move there AND own the town.
@@RexusprimeIX or when they go on vacation dont come back worlds big hard to find a person if they good at hiding js.....but i feel your story i will be ok there i stay at home 90 percent of the time sadly now a days all i do i use to be out all the time in my 20s but ya stay home then go out with the kiddos i wonder if i own the town if i can sell places and move who ever in i choose now i can convince major companies to move head qaurters there js maybe a few rich and famous vay kay houses
@ Mico Yeah for free at the cost and the pressure of investing in and repairing/ restoring the same NOW! There's a reason why even For Free is too expensive/ impossible to buy.
3:03 "You might get lucky and find a little bit of gold." Well, for one, that nugget is more than just a little bit of gold. However, the bigger issue is are you buying MINERAL RIGHTS or the associated mining claim that allows you to gather said gemstones or gold from your property? When you purchase property, mineral rights do not always convey. So, finding a nugget like that might just mean that you have to turn it over to the person who owns those rights. Now, wouldn't that suck?
@@deathwizard1996 not always, you may not even own the mineral, gas or oil rights. A lot of times realtors will even lie and say they can not even determine who owns those rights. When looking at any property for a homestead you have to come with a massive list of questions as they will not share info unless you ask. I remember one time I was interested in this one place only to find out they had some stupid restriction that you could not have anymore than three chickens - no joke. There are places they will not let you have aquaponic systems, but you would not know unless you asked ahead of time. So I learned over the years to have a long list of questions that email to the listing agent to get answered before even looking, because as I said I have found places that will list a property as no restrictions when in fact there are many. It is amazing how many places will not allow tiny homes because there are minimum square footage requirements, or the house can not be on wheels . . .
A lot of small railroad towns were abandoned. They were used to be water stops for steam locomotives. After the railroads switched to diesel locomotives they were obsolete
@@rafaeltorre1643 … LV was a crossroads between LV and SLC. And it was from LV the Hoover dam construction was staged. So it wasn’t ever just a jerkwater town. Then came Bugsy Seigel and his associates… You know the story
one needs a good solid positive partner in life for something like that. i am currently still single, so don’t dare to venture on my own. But if there was a community, perhaps yes. the locations in Italy are truly beautiful
No clue why people like you consider it a prison sentence. Do you intend to relocate many times right now?? You just pack all your stuff and say, "Here I come Seattle!"? If so, then it might seem "prisony" But, I think your misunderstanding is, they Pay you to move there and you move away, you should owe them their 10k back at minimum. I'd demand more for breaking a contract. You just have to keep it as your primary residence. I'm not planning on suddenly uprooting everything. You can travel all you want, etc. Some prison.
I've been driving around the US for a year now, just trying to find a place to be. I'll take a free town, that no one can threaten to tow me for parking.
I have done the same thing, but ended up in New Mexico. It is dramatically less expensive than my home state Colorado. It is dry, but lots of sunshine, low humidity, decent temperatures much of the year.
When you buy anything of real value, car, boat, land you pay taxes on it from day one. Every year after , your state may tax a percentage of determined value.
If I could get funding on a ghost town that I could turn into an off grid school that everyone could learn from, that would be awesome! Learning from old ideas to new, experiments welcome! Funding would be the question?
@@ukanduet3209 That, I'm really not sure of? I'm sure the government would want some sort of taxes out of it unless, you could be tax exempt in someway. A number of companies could donate materials as a write off, and I'm sure that they would love to see their names as sponsors on the projects if you had an online channel about the alternative energy school. Subscribers to our channel could also be a great help with donations too! Those who attend the school would also be expected to contribute as well but, maybe some financing could be returned to them to help get some of the best ideas from the school off of the ground?Would also love to see the patent attorney experience to be a part of the show as well. Successes and failures, a true competition of which ideas can make it or not! I'd love for it to be more of a school than I would for it to be a show but, like someone else commented, nothing is free!
I’d buy the French town IF I could get past the incredible regulations of France. I’d want to be able to modernize the plumbing, HVAC, electrical and when necessary move walls and make additions to buildings. Then, I would want a 50 year business tax abatement. That is, any business I could bring into the town could avoid taxes. These businesses would then pay small a local tax that would be used to improve the infrastructure and help make the area energy independent and for future growth.
That town is St Elmo. People do own the houses there. Was a mining town here in Colorado. There is a store that opens up there each year during the summer. Big tourist attraction. Right in it's backyard is a 12,000Ft 4x4 mountain pass. Just in case you were unaware of the town. One of my favorite areas to be in in Colorado.
@Andy G Not really sure what the tragic past is. However there is another town here called Gillman, Co that was another huge zinc mine that polluted the water so bad they shut the entire town down and it is now a EPA superfund site. However people do make it 800ft down the side of the mountain to reach the mine at the bottom of the canyon. And there is somewhere around 70 miles worth of tunnels to explore plus all the mining stuff at the bottom. St Elmo is a very cool little town. Pretty easy to get to.
I have a video of my visit to St Elmo. It went bust because the prices of silver dropped. If you search St Elmo history there are several videos about it.
My nieces family is stationed in Italy. I would live there in a heartbeat. I just need my husband to agree. Which in other words when he kicks the bucket. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤪
Sounds lovely! Locana- Italy, I'm interested. I left my home at age 17, nice Westside area of Indianapolis. 32 years in the USMC, came home to Drug dealers, Mexican cartels, and even 8-9 year old kids who carry more firepower than Police precinct! I'm ready for Solitude
Uh yes I'd move there in a heartbeat it's simplistic and beautiful I'm down there's a lot of homeless veterans all over they should offer them a place n some money it prolly would be a dream come true to someone in need of respite
@Alan formula1 So sorry you got screwed over the way you did. Unfortunately, gear usually disappears anytime it's separated from the soldier. Peace and wartime. There's always some dirtbag with no morals integrity that will take your gear. However, in a casualty situation, there's always the chance that your gear was taken off and became separated from you during transfer, admit, or triage? Just a guess as they can't place your gear on your body. Thank you for serving. You said you were hurt in Iraq, hope you applied for disability. If denied go through DAV or other Veteran organization. Something like the place in Utah would be great for Veterans as some like peace and quiet, outdoors, and just to be left alone.
I don't know where you got your info on St. Elmo. Most of the houses are renovated for summer homes. It gets tons of tourists. I do not think the town is for sale for $84,000.
Nexttsar, I saw the part in this vid, and also know St Elmo is not for sale. I went to watch again and show my boyfriend, and although St Elmo is mentioned in the start, the 'story' they had is no longer in this vid. They must have gotten slammed with people telling them it was a lie... ha!
That town in the Italian Alps is pretty nice, is there power? I recon it could be fixed up with the $10,000. I am retired with no pressing issues. Who do I contact? 🙂
"Completely free.....you just have to spend your own money to restore it, and have the funds ready to go, and even if you have all that we will turn down your application....but its free!"
If someone can play me to live somewhere I would do it in a heartbeat. How my question is how would I get out there if I don't have the money or a passport
Those places are so beautiful, they totally are ! Thank you for your video, you have a nice day. Ps : That little place in France : with family and friends, flower gardens, fruit and vegetables, a fertile soil. The simple good life.
I was born in Ogden but lived in Lucin until age 3. I was born 12/13/1947. The little RR section was not abandoned in 1936 as stated in video. we moved from there in 1950.
I think, if I had the money I would buy one, it would be kind of cool, to rename it after yourself or what you want, and remodel the town to a old western town look, or fix it up however you wanted, and then try to draw attention to it some how, to repopulate it after its remodeled,
Lucin, Utah was not abandoned in 1936. I was born in Ogden 1947, but we lived lived in Lucin until 1950. It was a section town for railroad workers. My dad was the Section Foreman.
Lucin isn't that where the phone rings even though it has no serve, yes I would live in locana,Italy I could fish everyday, one sounds awesome I'll buy it when I win the lottery
I’d definitely would move there, if they would pay me 10,000 as it would mean having enough distance between me and my parents to keep her from driving over to continue an argument.
Wouldn't but for any price? Heck they ain't met me, I've been looking for places like these that I could afford. Always loved the idea of having a town to do with as I please.
I don’t believe the one at 5:00 surely if they’re paying people to move, people of 50+ who have nothing, depression groups etc would set something up for them to be able to move there. I mean that would be a chance to have a new life, and have a community of all respectful people. Think of how utopic that could be
I would Love to invent a cult and we used our money to take care of each other and live in one of these ghost towns but we would have to have air-conditioning and heat O yeah and access to the Internet and RU-vid
I WOULD TURN ONE TOWN FOR SENIORS HAVE A MEDICAL STAFF. IN TOWN A RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR. FIRE CHIEF, SECURITY. JUST BECAUSE OF SENIORS A COMMUNITY SPROUT'S.
Being an opera lover, the town in Italy offering $10,000 to move there and try to bring it back to life? I'd love to! If there's a theater or cathedral that is usable for living and working? I believe I could do a lot to help bring that city back to life! As for living the rest of my life there, absolutely! At 56 and with the current administration here in the United States, going there would be like breaking free from a jail cell and truly being given a second chance! Please tell me more!
1) Take over a town, then only allow people who work from home to move in for the first phase of restoration. Sense you own everything in town, you are the landlord. Sense the town is under your authority, you provide the governance. 2) Would I live in an Italian village for the rest of my life? Hell No!
More like these this is great I have ideas for an eco resort community with focus on local development and preservation I am looking for sites anywhere
If I had only known!!! That town in Utah? $16,000? Rats! Five years ago, as a severe agoraphobic, I settled on a one bedroom home in a small town and decorated it in antiques. All in preparation to live away from people, in comfort, on disability (other reasons than my need for isolation). I often feel like, if only I were further away from people! If only I had known.
