Hey guys, this is a 1999 Honda 400EX that I bought for 500 bucks. It was torn down and left in a barn for decades. @@kalegillis5161 thanks for watching! That's a tough one; the 660 was one of my favorite quads of all time when I was younger. I think I'd go with a well built 400ex because they handle much better and they're nimble, but raptors have so much torque they're so much fun; it's a toss up depending on the mood I'd say.

I had torn rotator cuff, the recover and physical therapy were torture mentally for me. But in the end im much stronger and healthier physically and mentally. Dont let yourself get down during recovery! Another awesome build on the 400! 🤘

Awesome video sir! Glad to know that I'm not the only one that misses components and has to go back and take stuff apart again and again! Once, I was actually putting together an aftermarket 400ex clutch basket, and had everything correct, and then while explaining it in the the video, I flipped the plate and secured it on backwards. I didn't even notice it until I was editing the video and had to pull the whole clutch side back apart and do it all over again!

Dude!! I've done that too lol; I had to split the bottom end of the KFX and put in a washer for the transmission; watching my own video saved my ass 😂 I appreciate the kind words man!

The fcr 37mm or a 04-05 450r carb would've been a great upgrade over the stock carb. A must in my opinion. Either way the build turned out great!

The 400EX is the most dependable quad I have ever owned. Bought one new in 2000, I still have it basically all original even down to the brake pads. Air filters oil changes and batteries is the only thing I have ever done to it. It is not my favorite quad, but if you want to go for a ride and not risk breaking down it's my best choice.

@@andrewstahl6916 at that point in time it was the first new sport quad released in over a decade. Soon thereafter there were many better choices. Until recently there used value was almost nothing, so there was no point in parting with a clean low hour machine.

Just switched out the factory brake pads on my 2000 400ex last summer. I've owned it since new. Still looks brand new. Dont ride all that often but no way I can part with it.

Just an FYI, the oil won’t just flow from the tank to the crankcase, atleast not very quickly. The engine has to either turn over or run so the oil pump will pull the oil into the engine. Great stuff btw. I myself am a very big fan of the 400’s, my channel is based solely on 400ex content pretty much. I’ve got a fully built 400, check out my xc ready walk around video if you’ve got time. It’s got everything from long travel suspension to a fully built motor.

Thank you for the info and wow, very similar looking design when you first glance at your bike; I'll check out the video! I waited a good 30 minutes and not a drop flowed into the engine; it might have cleared when starting it but I didn't want the crank to be dry for initial start up; a good bit of sludge came out of the lower line; the oil was nasty!

just to let you know those mighty max batteries are great hold up charge really well just make sure the quad charging system is good though otherwise those batteries are great have one in my 400ex and 300 fourtrax they start them just fine

I use roll rubber roofing, cut a 1 inch wide strip and glue it to skid plate where it meets frame. Nice and quiet.

Iv had the niche dual row carrier in my 07 450r for almost 6 years not a SINGLE problem I got it when they first came out and it was like 48$ iirc look good tho! Sure do love using awesome to clean literally everything!

It's hard to argue with the Niche and other chinese carriers, I don't think I've heard one bad experience with them. And yes, awesome is where its at lol.

Yo meat gear find on the EX just one thing that valve spring press tool that one you have is for big block engines for trucks like tractor trailors lol. They make a smaller one for motorcycles. I giggled a little when you put that huge thing on a small engine. Awesome

Damn nice setup I need get one of those old bottle jacks. Get that shoulder fixed go have a blast in few months I had my labium fixed before i could pull my 70lb bow back took over a year of healing but think thats a bit worst then the cuff im not sure but becareful do that therapy shuld be gtg soon

im so happy to hear a noisy valve train like that. (its terrible i know so dont hurt me please) My valves haven been adjusted in like 10 years and they sound the exact same as they do in the video(im getting them adjusted at the end of the riding season here in the desert and then selling it for a trx450r). Also i have a white brothers e series exhaust on my bike and it sounds pretty similar to your hmf exhaust, these bikes are just all around fun.

If you have a 400ex, they have notoriously noisy top ends; especially when you have an aftermarket cam; nature of the beast so yours is probably just fine man!

I know putting something on the hole in the air box restricts it but you should try to find something like frogzskin to help waterproof it while maintaining good airflow.

You can bring back faded plastic with a torch. Just go lightly over them and the fade will magically disappear.

If u can't get that nut off the axle... When it's all together on the bike. Put a socket on it with a breaker bar. And let the bar hit the ground and ride a foot up and it will crack loose
