In regards to the loose cylinder head - Someone made a really good point that the OEM studs may have a midsection that is thicker and that that is why the holes seemed too large in my cylinder head. I do have OEM studs on hand and I tested this - the OEM studs do have a midsection that is not threaded but it is not thicker than the all thread studs I used. Here is the OEM stud part number - 90116-08394-00 - You can see in pictures the OEM stud actually appears to be thinner in the unthreaded section. The more you know.
@shoominati23
@shoominati23 Год назад
It should be, as if the bolt is thicker in the midsection - it creates a stress riser that will mean you will have a heartbreaking snapped bolt after a rebuild or two

Generally speaking with the bearing seals the Channels are on the inside facing the bearing, this is for two reasons the flat outside gives a good support for the shaft that is entering the bearing as these seals are usually laced inside with tiny wires to aid strength, if you pull an old one apart you will see the wires inside for support, with the channel inside facing the bearing this acts like a small grease trap so the bearings remain lubricated as much as possible, I.E when you switch the engine off that seal will hold a small amount of oil inside so upon first start up the oil will be there straight away to lubricate the bearing off the bat, this is generally what I have learned and have applied to all my vehicle work, not saying it’s gospel and to be taken as sure but I haven’t had a premature bearing failure as of yet, hope this helps for the future and people reading this…… again always love the videos……. Smashing out the work and top quality videos too 👍

Love the video as always. I'm only 15 min or so in and thought I'd comment after your honesty rant from the 3 bearing pins coming out. I went and bought a Lakota 3 or 4 days ago in Allentown PA. I was motivated from your Lakota videos. The facebook ad said the quad ran great. I made the 2.5 hour drive one way and the seller put on a show for me. He cranked the machine for at least 5 minutes killing the battery. He swore he was just riding the machine before I got there. I was able to get out of him that he only owned the machine for a couple weeks and replaced the side cover where the reverse lever shifter and sprocket are(rtv was everywhere) and bolts were missing. Then I discovered while I was there that it's not getting spark. I'm thinking when he replaced the cover some reverse sensor got installed wrong as the reverse light on the dash/handlebars won't go out no matter if it's in reverse, neutral, or 1st gear etc.. anyway... I've added up $110 so far in just bolts this guy or someone removed from this machine and didn't put back. He came down on the price and I ended up buying a Polaris Sport 400 from him too so... I was entertained with his antics and made it work. Maybe it's the people who are right in the middle are the most irritating, I love your stuff and I also enjoyed dealing with the guy who went hard with the dishonest ad! He was like the $1/hr plus a case of beer to fix your quad guy and you never get it back or if you do get it back it's apart in boxes and you're the $250/hr guy who builds your bike to perfection and doesn't charge for extra time if you make a mistake and have to fix it. Anyhow, keep up your good work, the good content, and the funny sound effects and humor WITH the attention to detail. Good stuff!!

Bearings should always be tapped in with a one piece tool that fits the OD of the bearing, they make installer kits. Seals always get installed with the flat surface facing away from the liquid. Bearings all have numbers on them, it is usually universal and can me looked up on the internet for size. I worked at a two cycle motor shop when I was school, I machined and rebuilt motors all day long, usually 4-6 per day depending on the motor. I learned fast to check parts before assembly. The “Philips” head screws are actually JA screws, look the same but require a different driver.

New subscriber because of the honesty and frustration during the bearing installation.

I totally appreciate you showing the roller bearing install, I would have to replace it or every time I started it I'd think about it coming apart! I couldn't sleep! LoL

When I installed my crank I used a 40mm 1" drive socket and a small section of pipe. I slid the socket over the crank shaft then I slid the pipe on and found a nut that threaded onto the crank and just slowly tightened the nut and it pulled the crank right in place. It worked a treat. But I'm going to have to pick up one of those tools from tusk for my next round of rebuilds.
