Chin and I picked up a 1959 Chevrolet 4 door sedan in the Bel Air trim package from a local estate sale. Let's see if we can get the 235 inline six running and test out the 3 speed on the tree for the first time on the road since 1976!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Over here in England all the interesting old scrapyards where such old cars existed have long gone - now they're called recycling centres, no old bangers like this to be had anymore. Very sad. Many years ago when I was young our Saturdays were spent in old scrapyards salvaging bits and pieces to keep our old cars running - though our cars weren't as big as this Chevvy. It was VW Beetles, Morris 1000's,, Vauxhalls (GM), British Leyland Minis, tatty old Jags & Daimlers (my car !!), Rovers and Fords for us !!! Happy days. Modern British cars are crap.

That reminds me. Back in 1985ish I found old, what I figured was brass Zippo under the backseat of an old Chrysler that my dad gave me. I replaced the wick and wadding and carried it for several months. Until I gave someone a light with it and they asked me "damn son why are you carrying around and using this lighter?" Turned out that it was 14k gold!! I'm 53 now and I still have that Zippo. I've been down and out a few times over the years and came close to selling it. Couldn't bring myself to let it go. And it's worth a shiny penny that's for sure. So yes!!! Always search through ANY old car you come across. There could easily be treasure.

Super solid for sitting in a field for 45+ years. Those old stove bolt sixes are really good smooth running engines, due to the heavy crankshaft. That six weighs as much as the 348. Wow, does this bring back memories! My first car was a '59 Bel Air... my grandparents' old car which was given to me on my 16th birthday. The car was 1 year younger than me! Main difference between mine and yours (besides the color... mine was blue) was that mine had the Powerglide and a whole lot more rust. Living on the Gulf Coast will do that... The 235 C.I. "Blue Flame" 6 was very easy to work on-- just climb into the engine bay! These seem like they would be a tank built from Detroit steel... for an eye-opener watch this comparison: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fPF4fBGNK0U.html

Best fins of the fifties! I like the three on the tree six cylinder combo. Must have had a hood change out as six cylinder cars never had the v emblem, maybe when it got its whiskey dent on the right fender!

Classic lines on this one. I was born in '59 and I remember the body style well. I don't remember when the fins were retired. When I was in high school my good friend's first car was a '64 Bel Air w/ 3 on the tree. Fins were gone by this time. This thing was long and it literally floated. We thought it had a body that was rusting and paint that was duller than my big toe. Heh, heh...it was really much sought after vintage patina I now know. It smoked like The Friars Club after dinner. We went to Pensacola in the summer in it and we sweated like pigs touring the Hormel plant. Good Bel Air memories cause it made cold beer taste all the better.

Once the linkages get worn on a 3 in the tree when shifting from first to second they have a tendency to not shift out of first and then you have to stop and manually manipulate the linkage at the bottom of the steering column.

It maybe Grandma's grocery getter, also got her to church and to bingo and bowling but it's still something you don't see often, let alone one with a 235 6 cylinder in it, sadly most people rip'em out and put a 350 or something like that in there, 6 cylinders aren't junk, as they say...6 in a row ready to tow, 6 cylinders always have the upper hand on low end torque, you should keep this and restore it Mortske 4 doors and station wagons need love too

Amazing. When that thing started after 45 years, no smoke and even idled. A fella knows a guy aint so confident it'll restart on the test drive/donuts when he leaves the door open. "Nice day to breakdown on the side of the road, eh, Duff?" hahaha.

My cousin had one just like that. Well is was a white 1959 Chevrolet, but it was a big block 4 speed convertible. White with white top and red guts. It always had fresh paint; as he wrecked it often. He thought the girls would like him, if he had a cool car. He was wrong.

I don’t care what anybody says. The 59 chevy’s were some of the most beautiful cars GM ever made. I had a 59 Brookwood 2 door station wagon I drove back in the early 70s. Sold it almost 50 years ago and I have regretted selling it ever since. Great old lead sled.
