Betholom Row the story of this old cemetery is fascinating www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bb...
Got my nickers in a twist talking about internment’s etc as I’d been reading about German rat lines after ww2 I’d heard that a Jewish cemetery don’t allow exhumation but since found out they do
djmace74@gmail.com to send me any drone footage for future videos

As a part time genealogist, this is right up my street. I have traced my family tree back to a wedding in 1534, and visited many graveyards over the years. I love old graveyards, something magical about them. Cheers

Always fascinating how quickly places change over time and how quick people and places are forgotten. Cheers Bry 👍

That’s very sad, shame on Birmingham council for not restoring this and opening it up to the public.

I stumbled by accident upon this cemetery whilst an undergrad student in 1978 at Birmingham University exploring the city. I naively assumed that it would become a treasured and protected part of Birmingham's rich history, even then it had been subjected to some vandalism and disgusting swastika painting. Now it is just disgraceful that it has been allowed to be abandoned and trashed even further.

I agree the space seemed trapped with the tall skyscrapers surrounding, but had a peaceful forgotten vibe, I agree would be a great place to escape the madness but like the other old grave yards around Birmingham abandoned and forgotten about, thanks you for watching and sharing your thoughts

It’s such a disgraceful shame that such an interesting and valuable part of Birminghams history has been allowed to be so easily overlooked and forgotten about! According to the date that it was first used, that cemetery bares witness that most of its occupants were present throughout the formative years of the Cities industrial growth! Surely the council could at least recognise that fact and attempt to respect and acknowledge its existence by making some attempt to renovate it!

The cemetery, which was open for burials from 1823, was partially destroyed for road development and its remaining funerary monuments are piled in the centre. Concealed between a high 19th-century wall, it is badly neglected and at risk. A surrounding development of student housing was accompanied by promised restoration. A steel fence has been erected and the cemetery is now inaccessible. It was assessed for listing in 2012, but did not meet the standard required.

Both amazing and sad. Hidden in plain sight... Someone should clean it up and do some restoration to turn it into a place of reflection. Thanks for showing this to us!

Very interesting. I’m Birmingham born and bred and for as long as I can remember (33 years to be exact) I’ve always had a fascination with local history and churches, resting places etc. Thanks for the upload I’ll 100% be checking this out. Subbed!

I visited Birmingham last year and I thought it was really undervalued by brummies. I was in the turistic information inside the library and I was surprised by the fact of the woman only recommended me to visit the bullring... it was so sad. Places like this must be put on value and be known by people not only tourists.

Hi Lady the bullring a modern marvel, some of the old buildings amongst the modern skyscrapers are interesting, the old grave yards in the jewellery quarter are worth a look around. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts, best wishes Mace and Fio xx

There is so much more to Birmingham that the modern stuff .... So many fantastic old building have been ripped away over the years and replaced by none descript rubbish like the new bullring & the library... Brum's history has been torn away in my opinion. That is why you get that response from the locals.

@@XhristinaMacey I've really enjoyed watching your Birmingham videos. So many once distinguished buildings / places, now forgotten and left to rot. Most people probably don't even notice them, as they walk past. Thank you for posting your adventures.
