In this video we take a slow walk down the abandoned main street of the ghost town in Pamplin City, Virginia. Along with exploring the architectural details and textures of the beautiful old buildings, we will also discuss a little history of the town.
CORRECTION:
At 8:30 I quoted some incorrect details about the ownership of the Williams Hardware and Grocery. I later received a message from a descendent with the following corrections: "Your information regarding Williams' Hardware and Grocery in Pamplin, VA is incorrect. It was owned by my grandfather, Howard Williams, Sr. and his brother, Harry. After my grandfather "bought out" Harry's share of the business in the 40's, he was the sole proprietor for another 40 years. My great-uncle was Woodrow Williams. He was my grandfather's youngest brother. After playing professional baseball, he came back to Pamplin and opened a grocery store down the street from my grandfather's." Sorry for the error.

This brings back so many memories. My dad was raised in pamlin. I have lived there. It's so sad to see the town like that now. My grandparents house was across from the town. My granddaddy, my uncle's and daddy use to work on the pipeline. My cousin's, sister's and me use to go to the country store and buy candy. We really wasn't supposed to go across the rail road tracks. That was the good old days. I think the last time I was there is when one of my aunt's passed away. It's been a while. Last I knew one of my uncle's was buying the town. That was years ago. I don't even know if he's still living. Thanks for sharing this.

I love hearing from people who know and remember the town. Thanks for the nice comment. I hope someone will save the old downtown!

@@Keithdotson it looks just like something you would expect from a Stephen King's movie. Except you don't have to worry about evil children still occupying the town.

My wife lived in Pamplin as a kid. My mom dug up a pipe bowl from a ditch on my grandaddy's farm in Aurora, NC in the 30s or early 40s.

I know Lisa didn’t we have so good times in that little town. As kids we spent summers there with my dads family. We even lived there when we were young kids. My sister is right one of our dad’s brothers brought most of the town. Last I heard when he passed away some one brought it. So I don’t know who owns it now. My dad and his brothers took a dynamite cap and blew off some of the bricks off of there school. Lisa do you remember them telling us all those stories. My dad family lived across the railroad tracks. There was a store right across the highway from there house. 2 cars were racing each other one of them lost control and hit my dads brother and killed him. In that store parking lot. Thank you for posting this. It was a busy little town at one time.

The video and comments remind me of the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes". Reading your stories I can almost see Pamplin City come to life.

I grew up in Pamplin in the mid 70s to the early 80s. Actually just went and visited this past weekend and rode through this area. I sure remember it differently. Went and looked at the old elementary school that was closed down and forced us to go to school in Appomattox. Still love Pamplin as it holds a special place in my memories.
