Abandoned Mirlondaines Kart Track Amay Belgium
In this circuits of the past video we show you the Mirlondaines Circuit, an abandoned kart track near the village of Amay in Belgium.
The Mirlondaines Circuit is an 660 meter long kart track in the Belgian provence of Liege, which is in the French speaking Walloon region. It is actually also not too far from the famous Spa-Francorchamps Circuit. But that’s another story.
The Mirlondaines Circuit is owned by the municipality of Amay and was leased to the karting club Amay Cobra Karting. But due to bureaucratic reasons, the track's license was revoked and the track closed in 2015 at the request of the Walloon Region, whose environmental police revealed an urban planning illegality dating from 1981. The sector plan was incorrectly stated in the green zone and not in the recreational zone. Moreover, the installations of the track considered non-compliant by the fire brigade.
After having submitted the request for a new license in June 2022, it was suggested that they withdraw it and seek a class 3 license aimed at access only to electric karts. But the Amay Cobra Karting club also wants to keep open the option of continuing to race with combustion engines. And so the legal battle continues. When Herman visited the Amay kart track in June 2023 it was still left abandoned.
According to some posts on Facebook it seems the Mirlondaines Circuit re-opened after Herman’s visit. But only for electric karts. So at least we have a happy end to this story. If you have more information about the fate of the Amay kart track, please let us know in the comments below.
