ABANDONED NASCAR RACE TRACK: JACKSON INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY (JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI) 3-8-2020

#DroneForceJXN flew over the abandoned Jackson International Speedway this past weekend. J.I.S was the areas only race track to hold sanctioned NASCAR races from 1968 - 1986 and was once the fastest 1/2 mile oval in the world (Bobby Harrell set the world record lap of 16.78 seconds in 1970 and held onto the record for 7 straight years). Nascar legend Rusty Wallace won multiple races at the track along with Mississippi's very own Lake Speed. The track closed in 1986 due to poor track conditions and has been abandoned ever since. My daddy took me and my brother to the races at Jackson International on Saturday nights starting in the late sixties. My love for racing began right there. My fondest memory is the sound coming from those awesome Super Modifieds when they got on the gas in turn 4 coming to get the green flag. I shook every time they did that. It was so awesome. The cars were flying but you could see the drivers in those open cockpits wearing white, short sleeved T-shirts. Those men and the cars were bad to the bone. There was no wall on the backstretch and the cars ran right on the top. Sometimes they would lose it and go off the back. We were told there was a lake back there and some drivers came close. It was a great experience to witness those races on a Saturday night. If you want to see what the track looked like in it's heyday go to Mobile International Speedway. Back then that track was referred to Jackson's sister track. Thanks for making this video.

I probably saw you there. A friend's Dad took us often. 68-69. This is where I caught the racing bug. They also had a group of stunt drivers that drove all Mustangs and did a lot of two wheel stuff.... remember?

My dad has told me many times of when his dad took him, and my uncle out to the races at that track.

Thank you brother, the more I get it in the air the more I can go back and learn some tips and tricks to how to make the next video better. Im hoping to get it in the air today and get some smoother video transitions and the footage not be so herky jerky
