Drones explore abandoned Bannerman Castle located in the Hudson River in upstate NY.
Pollepel Island has been called many different names, including Pollopel Island, Pollopel's Island, Bannerman's Island, and Bannermans' Island. The name is a Dutch word meaning "(wooden) ladle," but the Bannerman Castle Trust organization ascribes the name to a folk tale about a young girl named Polly Pell having been stranded on the island.
The island is about 50 miles (80 km) north of New York City and about 1,000 feet (300 m) from the Hudson River's eastern bank. It contains about 6.5 acres (26,000 m2), most of it rock.

In 1985 on a sail trip from Albany to NYC we anchored overnight off Bannerman's Island. I rowed the dinghy ashore alone and explored the island in the twilight. No bracing for the castle walls was in place at this time, so it was a little scary, not knowing the stability of the ruins. I sat upon a pile of rubble inside the castle and smoked a funny cigarette, hopeful that the walls would remain standing just a little longer. As darkness descended I left my throne, pleased to have been king of the castle, even for such a short reign.

Okay, its gonna have to be rebuilt!....ha, well, apart from millions of dollars, the red tape(D) would prevent that. I never knew there was a sort of smaller structure known as a residence, ...didn't know that at all until this video.

I forgot to mention there is also a Kayak tour company that I just took they also provide a tour that will allow you to get on the Island for an hour and walk around. Check stormy king adventures Hope that helps for anyone that wants to actually film this place.

The reason I'm here is that the kayak tours were mentioned in a crime documentary I'm watching. One of the people that volunteered at the armory was just convicted of drowning her fiancee by pulling the plug out of his kayak. (It was for his insurance) I still want to go to the island, and a kayak tour sounds amazing, so thanks for the info!

This place is ready to crumble down in ruin. If they can save Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay NY, they can save this castle too. It looks so fragile. Hope they can save it and restore it.

This structure appears to be very old definitely much much older than Francis Bannerman who was born in 1851.

Not an actual military arsenal, he was a re seller... back then all military surplus was sold off. He bought all he could starting after the civil war and sold it how he could. Small arms rifles and the like he tried to sell in the US . But he also sold guns abroad

Terri Gold I believe it used to be an arch for a door way, but it fell into the river so it's unrecognizable.

There is no way this ruin was built just 120 years ago. This looks like a medieval ruin from Europe!

It's not that there is no way, but you can't think of a way. Enemy inside of Castle with river can't use sapping digging tunnels tactics to collapse enemy's defense system. In period of ancient, It must construct large boat to install ballista and onager weapon and catapult on large boat, which collapse enemy's castle defense system with River.

We did, in 1995 on boat of course, and we lived 20 minutes away...it was an eerie experience! My ex was acting weird...as if he sensed ghosts!

HeavilyGamer Bannerman wasn’t an architect and had a unique and unsafe building style so it would be hard to rebuild without rebuilding the whole thing
