the Odeon first opened on the 1st of February 1960. It was the first new cinema to be built for rank after the war. and went on the close in august 2005. it was purchased by a local businessman, the building still sits empty and unused to this date.
We will not be giving out any information on the places we visit for the safety of others and the protection of the properties.

Even though I have never been to this cinema, my dad did many times and the first was when he was about 6/7 to see a star wars film back in the early 80's. He told me many stories of the great chandeliers that hung from the ceiling and how great it was. It hurts to see it in the condition it is in today. I hope they don't demolish it and refurbish it back to its former glory. It brings tears to my eyes even though I have never been there. I hope that it stays, like the other classic cinemas that lay abandoned around the country. 😢

I went to this cinema when it first opened. Myself and sisters used to go to the Saturday morning screenings for kids. I am almost sure the manager then was called Peter Davies. I remember queuing for hours in 1962 to see Dr No. Well, at least it seemed like hours.

I remember going there when I was little. Its heartbreaking to see somewhere that was such a big part of my childhood just being left to rot! That said, it also makes me feel a little guilty because I like so many stopped going there in the 90's when what is now Cineworld opened. The last time I went there was to see Waynes World 2 in 1993!

Sad to see it like this. My first film there was Cliff Richard in Summer Holiday in 1963. It was a single screen back then.

People always complain when cinemas close, but it's the lack of people attending that makes cinemas close. No one will close a cinema that makes money.

Shame to see the Odean in this state decay. This was a great little Cinema back in the day. That foyay was always welcoming in a way the large multiplex cinemas just are not. No pre ordering on line then. Yeah! I saw loads of films there during the 90's the first being Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in '89. The film was i think Star Wars Episode 2 in 2002. It would do very well today reopened as a affordable budget style Cinema I've no doubt.

I have never been in that cinema, though it would be interesting to see what it is like inside. Though I never went in there, my Dad saw the Battle of Britain in there so many years ago.

its so sad to see this place looking like that, I remember going there with my grandad and my dad, and hearing about the old chandaleir in the main screen, Mo has an abandoned hotel in the middle of the town park, i cant remember the name but it would be awesome to see in there next

Odeon has indeed let many of their cinemas and complexes close down and abandoned sadly back to nature leading to demolition even. This Odeon should have been given its chance to survive and not allowed other operators to force the issue of it been closed down. Cineworld is no better at operating cinemas than Odeon is for Odeon has been around for quite sometime and know the cinema world better than most. sad video of a sad situation heart breaking even ...

They should have refurbished this Odeon back to its former glory, instead of building a new one. This one has so much more character to it.

Well, I mean restore it then re open it as a 1960s style cinema. Agreed, I feel ashamed myself to say that I am a youth of Harlow because of them little rats.

Ah, you're the lucky one, you have the freedom to move out of this dump. I can't. (Saying that, Harlow isn't a bad place, its actually quite nice apart from the handful of "characters") ((I also have no idea what "I rep no fucking city coz I came from the dirt" means lmao, but that's just me and me not hanging around with the people that talk like that and cause trouble.))

It seems to be in a very old area..surviving from the 60's ..very brutalist concrete as was the ways..however totally different inside which is what you really went for....I just font get the leaving of everything like in a time warp as if one day all staff just left..but it must be Odeons way to abandon their staff and wear them down taking away all their enthusiasm:) I seen it many times

if you do go for it stay safe and don't go alone always better to have someone with you. if no simple way in don't break in. and respect the place and building.
