The Shimogawara Line is a branch line of the Chuo Line, and consists of a fraight line from Kokubunji Station to Shimogawara Station and a passenger line from Kokubunji Station to Tokyo-Keibajo-Mae Station(the front of Tokyo Racecourse Sta.).
The Shimogawara Line was opened in 1910 as the Tokyo Gravel Railway with the purpose of transporting gravel from the Tama River.
In addition, the Shimogawara line has a sidings to the factory, and it was an important infrastructure supporting the industry.
With the opening of the Musashino Line in 1973, the Shimogawara Line abolished the passenger line section from Kokubunji Station to Tokyo-Keibajo-Mae Station, and in 1976 the fraight line section from Kitafuchu Station to Shimogawara Station was abolished.
The abandoned Shimogawara line has been redeveloped as the Shimogawara Green Road in the southern part of Route 20, and used as a pedestrian and bicycle road now.
