Rangsdorf airfield is a former airfield in the municipality of Rangsdorf in the Brandenburg district of Teltow-Fläming. The airfield and buildings of which are now largely listed buildings . It was created in 1935-1936 as a water and land airport for civilian air sports ( Reichssportflughafen ), to which a flight school and the premises of Bücker Flugzeugbau ( aircraft construction) were attached. Officially used by the Luftwaffe from 1939, the site was occupied by the Soviet Air Force from 1945 to 1994 . In this video I look around the old site and give you some history of the place and what went on here in the 1930`s and mid 40`s. I also explain the link between Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg who took off from this base in his attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Also a bit of information about Fritz Todt, the then Reich Minister for Armaments and Ammunitions who had a mysterious accident on his way back to Rangsdorf from a meeting with Adolf Hitler when the plane that he was in, blew up mid flight. Last but not least I must apologies for repeatedly saying `Buckner` and not the correct the word `Bücker` Hopefully I've not offended anyone.. Thanks for watching !!
