I'm shocked that this building being empty for 10 years hasn't been torn up and vandalized more. I absolutely love the natural decay! Sound like it's a very good thing that this building has been closed. It breaks my heart that people were abused there. Thanks for sharing!😊
It’s very hard to access it. I live right beside it, it’s at the back of a large facility that’s always pretty busy plus there’s cameras and all the bottom windows are boarded up.
@@roanysvideogamecollectibles Yes, mostly still locked up and under active watch. There are active businesses within, like a commercial laundromat. It's a shame the owner, Mr Gallipeau, scammed most of the people who invested in him restoring the building. There is still a salt water pool, a Laundromat and a few scattered businesses. The residential area was built but the owner did not properly pay contractors, things didn't get finished until he hired a new company. I personally know people I worked with at Tweed who lived there, and their apartment flooded. They wouldn't even let him back in for clothes before the insurance came to inspect it because the concerns about the building practices were so bad. There ARE areas accessible, they run shows in there sometimes so you can see the theater, or asking the business if you could come in, but i doubt you could explore it like this now.
Abandoned Rideau Regional Centre Psychiatric Hospital | Urban Exploring Videos On March 31, 2009, the lights went out for good at the Huronia Regional Centre in Orillia and the Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls, the oldest and the largest residential institutions in the province. They probably experimented and GAVE those poor patients Hepatitis and God only knows WHAT else! This building just gave me the beejeebees however interesting it was to experience. Can you imagine living in a room that small? The patients' rooms were tiny... Thanks for this video. Stay pure and take care. 💖💖💖💖
I went there on a high school field trip in 1976. I saw things that have stayed with me for life, like a hydrocephalic boy whose head was the size of a basketball to a severely handicapped savant who could play ragtime piano like a pro. There was even a "pinhead" like I had seen in horror movies. The residents all seemed to be happy and the staff all seemed to be sincere, caring professionals, but what an eye-opening splash of reality for me as a 15 year old kid! No doubt there were things like sterilization and brain surgeries done but we were told none of that. It was horrific but I think everyone involved had the best interests of the patients at heart. Some of the patients even followed us around on the field trip. They were not locked up in cells and they seemed to have many daily activities including swimming therapy. It would be creepy as hell to explore like in this video, but I live way to far away now.

Freaktography, I believe you might be mistaken about this being the oldest and largest residential psychiatric hospital in the province. The old facility in St.Thomas ON, which you've also explored, is older, having been built in 1937.
Usually peeling paint doesn’t do anything for me but....the 7th floor hallway, when you were walking down it looked almost pretty. I don’t know if it had some to do with your light. With the glass French doors with the white peeling paint looked almost luminescent. A few other places it looked kind of cool too.
About the only rooms left relatively intact in this hospital are the bathrooms, due to the tiled walls. Incredibly vandals didn't smash all of the sinks and toilets to crumbs!
Is their a cemetary for these poor souls,? I did volunteer work in a chaplaincy role on the Bowery here in NYC. Eternal rest and perpetual light shine upon those who suffered in this life.
In the 90’s, I worked at a place like that (Fairview Training Center, Salem Oregon. You google it. It is abandoned and haunted.). Hepatitis C was prominent there too. We used to have to label the toothbrush holders of all the patients with hepatitis c, until the implementation of the hippa law that gave everyone the right to medical privacy. I look back on it now, and can’t believe how nieve we all were then. Just like with any other place there were good workers and bad workers. Unfortunately, you usually only hear about the bad ones.
I live at the now “Galipeau Centre” where it’s been renovated. You’re in the building that use to be where the nurses lived. Like to know how you managed to get in. I’m assuming the window that’s broken on the side, as the exterior doors are shut pretty tight.
Did you put those dressings in there? I have never seen a 4x4 pkg that did not discolour over time. Those were practically new. also no damage from humidity which is clearly in the building as the paint is peeling.
Looks like they used water based paint on top of oil base . This video brings me back to when I was 16 yrs old , I volunteered for the summer so I could spend time with my brother . I lived 10 hours from Smith Falls and I missed him so i thought volunteering would be a great way to spend time with him .. I met about 6 other girls that came from different parts of Ontario that would be sharing the dorm . A few left , they couldn't handle it I didn't get to volunteer where my brother's room was they sent me to a large room upstairs where the children couldn't speak some were blind , they couldn't feed themselves . I got bitten the first time i went in . There was only a t.v. in their common room and their beds had bars. I didn't eat the first week I did my fair share of crying to what i observed and experienced. First time I saw my brother I didnt' recognize him , I walked right by him when they pointed me to him . I was in somewhat of a shock . He was unkept and he was now in a wheelchair .he was 26 yrs old . They weren't happy that I I went in withought calling and suggested next time to call . I told them I'll be staying in this building for the summer and will be seeing him whenever I can and surely won't be doing any calls. I grew up that summer I was not the same teenager when i came back home . I met some people who had physical disabilities , some had nervous breakdowns and some mentally challenged all living under the same roof and same rules. I couldn't take pictures of my brother in case others would get in the pix , I was told because some parents would leave their children there and didn't want them recognized . I could write a small book of what i experienced but thought i'd share a pix of what i saw in the 70's in that building .
Cool video Dave !! We have one of those wards here in Rochester NY. wish I could get in bastards patrol it like they have nothing else to do. Gonna keep trying. Nice narration at the beginning too!!
The rooms are smaller then jail cells. Their only crime is being disabled. I thank God my parents never sent me to places like this. I had a childhood with special needs and a psychologist suggested I be sent away to a place like this..🙏🙏
It's so scary especially since I remember driving by this place as a younger kid.. I'm pretty sure that the building was torn down, correct me if I'm wrong
@@Freaktography its just that i love ur channel and it feels like iam cheating my self if i dont see u thats why i say that BUT THANKS FOR BEING SO SWEET 😊
I was caught there by the owners and they almost called the cops on us but we ended up having a little discussion and they told us this was actually a nurse’s dormitory
My family has deep roots in this Smith's Falls, Ontario, Canada area. I've heard it doesn't look like this anymore and has been taken over by Joe Gallipeau, developer. Perhaps your 2019 RU-vid video prompted this change? Perhaps time for a video update? Or, time to take this down, as at this point, it may serve no purpose.
Interesting vidio ,, but u should always wear a mask .. because of the paint and breathing in all that dust and debris is no good for your lungs hopefully next time you remember to bring your mask because very dangerous and you have to take care of yourself with all do respect
I'd like to know how I could get more information about this hospital, I have a brother who may have been a resident ,he has since then passed away in 1982 bit there's information I have received after his death regarding a relationship he had with a young lady which is personal until I receive the information I need therefore if anyone can help me can you please contact me
