Sarah, this place you picked is beautiful and as you say magical. I love whenever you pick an old building or castle and then proceed to tell us it's history or an old fable that coincides with it. I love being told a story too. It makes your paintings come even more to life when I can relate a character or incident in real life to go along with it. It is so sad that people feel the need to vandalize a structure just because it is abandoned. No respect for the beauty it carries forward. Your painting was spot on and gorgeous. I love the colors you chose, and the details you chose to capture its age, size and beauty. So thanks again for taking us on your walk, and sharing Willie and Jack Spaniels too. Cheers until next week!
Aww thank you so much Mare! So glad you liked everything. I love all these old buildings so much (especially castles…🙄) and there’s always an interesting story or two to tell. Plenty more to come as well!
I believe this painting is a true crowning achievement among your beautiful works. The estate, even in its current state amid the contrasts of nature trying her best to consume it, still stands so elegant and glorious. Thank you for bringing us along to see the estate in all its weathered and yet beautiful perfection. ❤
Rapunzel, as soon as I saw it the fairytale came into my mind before you even mentioned fairytales. Thank you for the walk =-) Your paintings are amazing.
I did not know that you have redwood trees in Scotland. I would love to see a real pineapple growing with my own eyes. Aunt Sarah grew a new pineapple plant from part of one she bought. I don't think it made any fruit; however, the orange tree she grew from a seed was taken to Florida (where it did grow up and made fruit). She was later gifted with oranges from the tree she started. Your painting is beautiful. Jack is such a lucky, happy, and good dog.
You can grow pineapple 🍍 if the shop leaves the green top. In Australia the big supermarkets have realised this and now you find the leaves pulled out. Hubby is trying to grow things from seeds. So far the five apple seedlings, from seeds, are doing well. As is the white mulberry tree, which I am not happy about. I paid a small fortune to have the darn thing removed.
Well I'm certainly glad you decided to challenge yourself with that amazing building. It came out fantastic!! It must be so fun to make your own souvenir "postcards" from every place you go. What memories you have that way. I love those old ruins, but the pineapple building is epic! It was definitely a surprise. I also love all the varieties of mushrooms that you find and share with us. I noticed in the video that Jack was making the picture taking a little harder than it could've been. It was making me laugh seeing how he has to be right there with everything you do. But the take-outs confirmed it, and I laughed even harder. I also laughed at Willie's comment about you being obsessed with castles. You certainly live in the right place then, it seems like there's one around every corner. I love seeing them from your eyes though. I think it's the next best thing to being there in person. I love your enthusiasm, it's definitely contagious. 😀 Thank you so much for another wonderful video. It was so fun. 😊
Aww thank you so much!! Yep - I certainly chose the right place to live for castles. I actually moved up to Scotland originally to work in a castle and that was the one I could see in the distance 😊 Someday I will take you all there for a proper look!
Awesome walk! Loved seeing the Pineapple and was especially excited to hear its connection to Virginia. Definitely see lots of pineapples in Virginia's old plantation houses and those throughout the southern US. Beautiful painting as well!
Thanks for today's adventure, loved the walk, Thought I spied Dr. Who in that telephone box. Loved the stone pineapple and your painting! Thank you Sarah!
Haha! Unfortunately Dr Who didn’t appear to us - if he had I’d have asked him to take us back to when the Manor House was in its prime! So glad you liked the pineapple 😊
Sweet beautiful Sarah!! I’ve gone back and am binging on She Walks Paints!! This is how I fell in love with you Willie and Jack!!? My lord you are all three just lovely !! Xxxooo😂😊Slay me!! Loving your family from Ild Orchard Beach Maine!!
Owwwwwwwhhhh I heard that too @17:33 it sounded exactly like three very heavy booted steps, or almost like a heavy laden horse coming to a standstill, I felt it before it happened and so did you ! That’s why you asked “what did you hear puppy dog?” Spooky wasn’t expecting that, but I played it back several times, and I’m sure your respect, and sadness at the disrepair, caught the attention of a protective spirit, I’ve stopped at that very point to write this, and I’m guessing you move off quite quickly after that encounter, what a lovely surprise to have been visited, the ghosts must like you as much as we do. Old Owl 🦉 Alaya.
OMG I didn't even get through the intro yet. You're painting something architectural! Not that I don't love the florals and buggies, but this has me really excited 😃
Hi Sarah, what a glorious walk, so much to see. I'm glad you decided to paint the pineapple, and yes you have every right to be proud of your achievement, little imperfections are what make it perfect, that's what gives a painting soul, it's Your impression of the building if you wanted perfection you would just take a photograph, this is so much better, I absolutely love it 😍. Love and best wishes to you Willie and Mr Spaniels.❤️
This was a beautiful walk and a most enjoyable surprise with all of the glorious old buildings and a the Pineapple House was wonderful! You painting was fabulous! I love it! I feel so much better knowing Willie is close by you! It's a grandma thing I think. I just feel better with him and Jack with you! He can use the exercise and fresh air too, don't tell him I said that!🤣 Please be careful and stay safe! ❤❤
Wow, good on you for taking on a painting challenge outside your comfort zone! I hardly think anyone would hold it against you if you were to take an extra week to work your way through your next one. It's so interesting (and really helpful!) to watch your process (and progress, naturally). Looking forward to seeing where you take your painting next.
Aww thank you! I like to set myself a challenge every now and again. I know you would all wait patiently if it took me a bit longer to do a painting, but I like having the end point in mind to encourage me to keep going!
You brought that beautiful pineapple building to life again, Sarah. What a shame about all those buildings gone to ruin….I suppose the renewal of such a grand place, plus upkeep, would be at an astronomical cost. The large white ruin of a house with the many rooms was definitely creepy. Haha, I see that Jack Spaniels has taken up paranormal investigations. Nice to see Willie in this one. And, we’re all obsessed with castles, Willie.🏰🤪
you are very talented sarah, dont underestimate yourself the painting is beautiful I loved the walk I really like old buildings and anything with a history, its amazing how somethings withsrand time and other things dont the shell of that house is amazing can you imagine what ir was like in its day it would of taken my breath away
Hi, very interesting walk, so many ruins. The Dunmore Estate House would have been amazing in its day, what wealth!! The architecture is still incredible, it would be a shame if it were to fall into total disrepair. Ha ha the pineapple was definitely the 'cherry on the cake', what a challenge to paint - well done, beautiful as usual. Have a good week.
Always neat to see what you may find along the path. That is neat seeing a 500 year old castle ruin. Those markers looked more like a dog? Magnificent old castle ruins, love the big stone pineapple. The painting came out great.
Very scenic walk Sarah, those huge conifer trees (Redwoods?) were magnificent. Very sad to see such beautifully constructed buildings going to waste. Would be quite something if one of them was refurbished into an artists’ retreat. Your painting was excellent Sarah, good subject choice.
Thank you! Really sad about those old buildings - I can’t even imagine what that house would have looked like in it’s day. But on the other hand I do enjoy exploring these romantic old ruins!
I've been looking up some of your former vids, like this one, Sarah & Willie...amazing! The Dunsmore Estate...what a grand place and utterly tragic what has befallen it 😕 Time is a funny thing right? Like beautiful Jack looks & acts like he's about 3 or 4 yrs, and yet he's 7...😯 And Dunsmore...looks like it's been standing like a shell for many centuries, not less than one! What happened there ..a fire?? Love your fab artwork Sarah!!! I've got into your Etsy store now 💛🌟🥂
Aww thank you so much! So glad you liked it 😊 Such a sad state for the estate buildings to be in - we think they were just too costly to maintain for the family who owned it. Big houses cost a lot in taxes and upkeep, so many of them fell into ruin in this country. I love exploring the ruins, but it is also sad to see them like that 😢
Incredible watching you create that painting, pretty marvellous the way you rubbed that out to leave the beautiful outline, I’ve never seen that done before, I hope your teaching, every tiny detail… omg, blessings to your gift. You could paint a Buddhist mandala or Thanga, they do classes for it at Samye Ling monastery in the beautiful picturesque village of Eskdalemuir, I would love to watch you paint a Thanga of White Tara, would you ? Old Owl 🦉 Alaya. I’ve never seen an artist at work that I knew instantly they could paint a Thanga, it’s perfect perfect perfect, thank you beauty’s soul.
I'm glad Jack told you to go here with his toy pineapple! Such an interesting walk. I like to imagine stories of the places you show, and I was thinking what it would have been like, if you knew the guy that built the pineapple building, and you go to visit his new house - and there's a huge stone pineapple on top! I'd have been blown away, and a bit jealous 😂 its beautiful, and you're right to be proud of your painting, I was imagining too, if the owner could have seen your painting of his building, he would have loved it I'm sure. Thank you for another beautiful video 🤗
Aww thank you so much!! Yes - Jack definitely had the right idea this time 😊 It’s amazing to think that we are still appreciating and protecting the pineapple building and yet the Manor House is left to rack and ruin. I’m sure the builder of the pineapple would be delighted that we are still visiting it!
What an amazing walk! Thank you for taking us on your amazing adventure. What beautiful grounds! I wish they would get someone out to clean off that tagging! It’s sad that kids feel like they need to mark up everything. We should make big buildings that they can go tag so they can leave historic buildings alone. Maybe I just hold history reverent in some way. I’m old🤭🤷🏼♀️ that must be the reason. I digress. Your walk was amazing. Seeing all the Scottish castles is inspiring. Your gift of painting is wonderful! Thank you for creating these videos. I am the caretaker for my husband who has Alzheimers. Your videos (and Dirty Secrets) brighten my Sundays. I enjoy them so much!
I absolutely loved this Vlog. It is so sad to see Such a stately home lay in ruins now There are so many that are left to just be taken over by nature is so sad these homes need to be purchased and rebuilt what a lost of history 🥲
Thanks so much! I loved filming this one as we felt like were discovering something new at every turn 😊 There’s something so sad but so fascinating about these old ruins
Great walk this week so much to see and enjoy. The painting is perfect. I thought you would paint the pineapple. I am proud to say I ordered my calendar and am so happy the cover is the beautiful thistle, which I own now. Till next week Sarah.
Your Driving sped up, reminds me of the Northern Mudlarks! They don't eat anything until breakfast, then stuff themselves with Caffeine and jump in the car! 🤣😂🤣 Sarah, I seriously underestimated you. You are a fine Artist! I collect art from Artists not well known, in particular Canadian Artists, but you are Scots, so pretty much family. I'm hoping I can convince you to do a Blue Heron for my wall. I wish I could send you on a walk up in Northeastern British Columbia! So many beautiful plants grow in our muskeg. I am in awe of your talent. My wife Judy is a painter. Back in 2007 before she met me, she was carrying a painting downstairs and missed a step and fell right stairs, fracturing her skull in two places. She was in a rehab centre for six months but even so it is hard for her to focus. Every once in awhile though, she has greatness emerge and I try to support her in every way I can. It is wonderful to watch you and I hope it helps her find her way back to her art. I messaged you a photo of her and her latest work.
Well done on your latest art work. Here I am painting stones to leave about my city & the language (sorry Mum I don't have your gift) . Eighteen hours of detailed work. You are wonderful & don't let anyone say otherwise.
WOW-WEE Sarah! I have no words! Extraordinary doesn't begin to do your work justice! Do you have a preference on synthetic or natural bristle brushes for your water color paintings?
Aww thank you so Tammara! I was so nervous about doing this painting, as I find buildings so difficult! I have always used the same brushes to be honest - Cotman watercolour brushes by Windsor & Newton, which are synthetic bristles. I would love to try alternative brushes to see how they compare, but also reluctant to change anything that I am familiar with haha 😅
@@shewalksshepaints fear of the unknown is always unnerving. I understand using what you know and are comfortable with. I too, am the same way with my dental tools lol
Lovely opening with you and Jack, Sarah. No doubt he keeps the grand parents on their toes!! The kayak trip was something different and that island and it’s history was very, very interesting. The abbey is beautiful and exemplifies the great architecture of those times. You captured the colors of the fushia superbly, a magical flower.
Hi Sarah, this was a nice walk! I'd like to reserve one of your calendars 2023. Can you tell me how I do that? Thanks, and give Jack and Willie a hello! cheers from PA, USA
Thanks Larisa! My calendars are available to pre-order on my Etsy store - there’s a link in the video description or you can search for ‘She Walks, She Paints’ on the Etsy website.
10:45 these houses remind me Dursley House from Harry Potter. Thank you for your videos, I cannot wait the next sunday. Send you big♥️ from middle Europe.
The abandoned buildings are beautiful. But the pineapple is amazing. Can you imagine the guy commissioned to build it? "You want a what? How big? I don't even know what they look like. And you say they taste good?" I wonder if he got to sample some. Your painting looks great!
This is wonderful! I love watching all your videos! Have you ever been to Buchanan Castle? I went there in 2019 to the ruins and it’s not open to the public but is a sight to behold ! It’s amazing how big they built their places. If you ever get a chance it would be awesome to see you guys film and explore there. Keep on walking and painting to share your talents with the world!
You really outdid yourself. These building are just magical. You are truly a master artist. I couldn't sleep last night so I caught up on watching videos. I was so blown away by your extreme talent. Well done Sarah, you have so much to be proud of in the artistic world of your painting. Hello to Jack Spaniels and Willie. Blessings to you all. 🌻🐕🥰🇺🇸
Isn't it funny that a place can be sad and beautiful at the same time, I felt a real conflict of emotions watching this video and I imagine it must be very intense being there. You have every right to be proud of your painting, it is superb! 😍💗 x
Thanks Amanda! I really loved doing this painting, even though it was tricky. I totally get what you’re saying about the buildings. I love seeing old ruins but it’s so sad to think about how they have fallen into disrepair 😢
Really love the painting, absolutely stunning and you should be really proud of it 😊 another wonderful walk and interesting history lesson ….thank you 😊
I love old stonework and ruins! My father was a stone mason, and I have a very deep fondness for stone arches and walls, wonderful job and beautiful area! I love the tall redwoods so majestic and beautiful! Wonderful talent you have!
Wow a lot of ruins to explore, sad to see them in that state, but it does give them an interesting look too. Jack must have been upset with the lack of water, but atleast he got to do some paranormal exploration 😂 Lastly I see what you meant about doing a challenging painting this week, turned out great.
Thanks Brett! I think Jack enjoyed it, but he definitely would have liked more water 😂 I think the River Forth was a bit to big and strong for him to go swimming in!
Hi Sarah, you made a cracking job of the Pineapple building, and l like the angle you chose. Another great walk thanks to Jack making your destination easier. Take care Alioban xxx
You should be proud of your painting. It is amazing. I love watching you and listening to Wullies music. I never knew these buildings existed! So beautiful yet sad. Thank you for another excellent video. X
Discovered your channel just a few days ago! I live in Kirkcaldy & have a wee black sprocker spaniel, just like Jack. You've def given us a few ideas for future walking explorations around Scotland. Your channel is akin to a little flower slowly growing & unfolding in a wee corner of You tube. Thank you!
You are so talented, the paintings are truly beautiful. Thank you Sarah for the adventure, if I had a granddaughter, I would like her to be just like you ❤️
Always look forward to your video's. Love the pineapple manor.. Can you imagine living there when it was in it's glory days? the outtakes are funny. thank you for sharing your obsession with castles!
The Pineapple is an amazing place to go and see. I lived close by for a few years and would occasionally go over for a walk. Hopefully you can do a video on Torwood Castle, the Broch and the Blue Pool!
That manor house was amazing! From your pics, it looked like maybe they removed the roof to keep from having to pay tax on it anymore. There weren't any obvious signs of the roof falling in on its own, at least in the video you showed. I get that people have to do that sometimes because they just can't afford to do otherwise, but it still makes me sad to lose such amazing buildings.
Hi Shenna - you’re probably right. I used to work in historic properties and one of the main reasons for them falling into ruin was not being able to keep up with maintenance and taxes like that 😢 You see so many blocked up windows too, because of the window tax 🤦♀️
Sarah, the painting is beautiful! I hope you have some paintings available for sale in the neighbouring towns and villages to selll to the tourists.. When living in Costa Rica how I wished I could paint some of the flowers and hummingbirds that I saw in my gardens and the neighbouring properties. I took thousands of photos, but sadly I lost most of hummers when my computer blew up... Now you, would be perfect for the job.
Thanks PJ! Hummingbirds would be amazing to try and paint - such beautiful colours 😍 I visited Costa Rica with school many years ago and loved it - so many beautiful places and lovely people too!
Your painting is excellent, your travelling companions are having way too much fun. Did Jack Spaniels discover anything creepy in any of those lovely old overgrown buildings?
