Visiting Dawson City in the Yukon is a childhood dream. So rich in frontier history and the site of the Great Klondike Gold Rush of 1896-1899. With the museum closed, I decided to wander into the forests to search for the nautical ghosts of the past.
Special Thanks to the Dawson City Information Center for providing important details and the gold pan!

The view of the fall foliage surrounding Dawson was absolutely mind-blowing, Slim, and the graveyard of the paddle-wheelers was well worth the effort you expended to share it with us. Thanks, too, for mentioning Pierre Berton's excellent volume on the Klondike Gold Rush. For anyone interested in a very readable, entertaining, extremely well-written, and comprehensive recounting of that era, it's worth its weight in gold!

Slim, I think I comment this every time: you are a born storyteller. I thought I’d be bored by this vid but nope! 👀 wide awake, no dozing off when I sometimes do on other creators’ content even tho I’m interested. I think it’s bc you turn a quiet story into an interesting adventure and keep it simple somehow at the the same time. I don’t know. I don’t think I’m expressing myself as well as you do that’s for sure . But ty for your stories that you share with us. I can’t read books anymore bc of an illness I live with; I can see your pictures on my iPad & obviously hear your words. It’s just my vision with words when reading get to be triple vision-imagine. I love you Slim for the stories you share with me. They bring me joy & I’m truly grateful for them and you.😊💫

You, sir, are an artist. The subtle music coming in as you reach the decaying paddlewheel ships is very effective. You extra effort to superimpose a historical photo of the Julia B overtop of the image of its current state is poetic. Thanks for another example of excellent craftwork!

Slim, the beauty you capture is always unparalleled! You have such a good eye for photography and the unusual. I could not believe those ships have lasted in such harsh weather conditions for over 100 years. At one time, you said you were not sure what you were going to do with your stills and beautiful shots. You shoot such framable things, and I think either a book or the ability to buy a specific shot would be great. Im surprised that someone hasn’t approached you already to buy those awesome photos. When you brought out the Klondike bars, I cackled out loud!! I love your sense of humor. Keep up the good work! It’s always a pleasure to watch your channel! ♥️❣️♥️

Some planks I tore from the cabin floor and lit the boiler fire. Some coal I found that was lying around and heap the fuel up higher.... Then I burrowed a hole in the glowing coals and stuffed in my friend Sam Mc Gee... Then I took a hike for I didn't like to hear him sizzle so.

Here in the desert that wood would have been hugely valuable & repurposed for cabins or something. The metal too might have been salvaged but we do run into wrecks of old cars, mining carts & such as we wander the desert. Oh! And tin cans aplenty too!

Slim, I think you would enjoy this, as would anyone interested in turn of the 20th century history, pop culture of the day, Canadian history... If you haven't seen it already, "Frozen Time". I think it's on Netflix and you can buy or rent it on RU-vid. Film reels discovered during a demolition of a building there and was reconstructed and compiled to an early history of Dawson City. Surprisingly Cosmopolitan place, because of the influx of people from around the world during the Gold Rush. Lots of interesting American Connections, too. It was very atmospheric. I definitely would watch it again.
