For all those asking about the Aircraft. Please be patient. There will be some videos of them shortly, hopefully we can get them all running cleaned checked and serviced!
I'm thinking a nice paint job from the mod era (1960's) would turner her into a banger of a boat. Google "Batman boat"and check out some of them images. ;)
You're not gonna let that civilian boat beat some really good tank guys are you?😁 You can get that thing running and seaworthy again, you made an effing Stolly 'seaworthy' didn't you?👍🇺🇸😎
Given the general Animal Magnetism applied to all mechanical things, the extensive use of the shifting spanner, how about No, don't get the aeroplane flying?
This boat was owned by one of the partners in the Castoldi UK importation business. He also had a company running pleasure trips from Littlehampton. I think there were (at least) two similar boats back in the 80's. That looks like an 06 unit, so it has a front gearbox with a dog clutch to engage/disengage the engine. The hydraulics for steering and reverse bucket should be powered from a pump in the gearbox, so the entire unit is self-contained from the engine.
My step dad was Peter Robinson, he always piloted Miss Littlehampton, the others were Fury and Flash. He also piloted the blue Peter one lifeboat, fun fact he couldn't swim.
Hull looks to be a Classic 27, which dates from the early 1970s, continuing to be produced into the mid 00s. If so, it's a really nice handling and performing hull. With a big turbo diesel on a jet, it's got the makings of a great boat. You want to crack an injector union open to see if it's getting fuel in the first instance.
Coast Guard 41's had 2 VT903 Cummins Diesels, one drove a PTO (when needed) and the Stbd Prop (If memory serves). I drove the boat, but that engine was facinating and I drew out much of the cooling and fuel distribution in the hopes of getting certified on that engine. I have heard of it running away, but never happened to anyone I knew. Your videos are facinating, nostalgic, and funny without even trying, keep it up.
Love the boat! I've always wanted a jet boat to go in shallow water up the River Severn. Jets are much safer than props but not quite as efficient so they haven't caught on. Don't ell my wife but I'd love to buy it ! I have two electric boats so I allowed one 'dirty diesel'! The water cooled exhaust would sound great.
Keep making the footage guys, loving your work and i'm learning loads. Got a Stolly in the yard with some submarine moulds as wings on hydraulics. Currently messing about with a Sea King........
Bloody shame that engine got left to rot, they were pretty good motors, I had a pair in my charter catamaran. Sabre engines from Wimborne, Dorset were originally making a marine version of Ford truck engines and then changed to doing the same with Perkins. They were taken over by Caterpillar in 1998 and at one time half the production line came out in Cat yellow and the rest in Perkins blue, spares should be readily available.
Fookin Awesome video boys. Whats the plan for the boat? I can imagine you nutters water skiiing or the like up one of those massive fen drains....Lol....lookforward to the next one...Starting the comet up!
O my gosh…..Joseph with a boat. It's kind of like a pilot is going for deep-sea diving😀 It’s therefore the first time ever that I’m happy that the engine refuses to start. What was more funny is to see that a fire truck produces even more smoke than a heavy fire😀. Look forward to your next vlog and send you love from the Netherlands
Great vids every time. Do a collaboration with "Ship Happens" great cross over. Both of you are rehabbing elements of the WW2. Cheers n tallyhoe n all that stuff. From America
We live about 12 miles from Littlehampton, I remember that boat doing trips out on the sea for visitors to Littlehampton. It used to go like stink out on the sea, and easily coped with the extreme tidal flow in the river Arun to get into its mooring for more trippers. I thought it must have been scrapped years ago.
Hope Jack's got his PPL ready for the comet's first taxi in ages , spent a lot of time as a fire picket in the early eighties riding round on an RAF Nubian scared the crap out of me holding the hoses at 10 bar ,but brilliant all the same 😊
The Mk9 with that Cummins V8 sounds a treat. I have fond memories of driving them back in the day. Please don’t break it, not many of those old girls left. Would be amazing if you could restore it!
That engine was built in Bournemouth. The company is now cat marine or Wimborne marine power centre. I didn’t work there when it was Sabre. They originally converted Ford engines to marine spec.
I work for Perkins Engines company based in Peterborough UK. Nice to see some classic after you just typed "abandoned" in your YT search and your video was uploaded a few hours ago.
Beautiful boat with bulettproof perkins engine & castoldi water jet. I was owner of one broom35 semi displacment boat with 2 great perkins 354.4 engines. I think that this boat is also made in Norfolk
great vid had to drive one of those MK 10s from suffolk back to RAF Aldergrove in Northen Ireland cant remember how many fuel stops i did it had a poxy little tank for airfield use i think i was filling up every 50 miles but what a beast
I know that location (I think) Used to be so many other aircraft and odds and sods there. Remember firing up a small jet turbine on a trolley. Your videos are thr most entertaining on RU-vid. Keep it up and please save everything there 😢 Is it a Comet or Caravelle? Priceless historical artefacts, even the old fire-engine.❤
Hamilton Jet. excellent system! very good for shallow water also! Perkins engines also very good for marine! VERY bad idea to start marine engines dry! it tears up the impeller very quickly as most are rubber impellers. generally, the bilge pump will automatically switch off as they are commonly set using a float switch. If at all possible, keep that Perkins! It is a GEM! I have known these engines to be sunk for a week, fuel system cleaned and start up right away. Marine steering is commonly TELEFLEX system. a geared cable system. sadly, That Gareth needs 'OUT' if it was underwater, it woud probrably have been OK. But being in damp air has been the worst situation. Maybe bypass? or try a Truck turbo?
I'll go out on a limb and say that there are quite a few viewers who wish they could get in on the shenanigans you lot get up to, I'd be one, unfortunately I live about 4400 miles away... looks like great fun.
I have fond memories of the old 903, about 285 HP if I remember and its offshoot sibling the VT300. The same block modified and turbocharged at 300 and a bit HP
The engine plate says its the 265 version, but yes nice engines and not as old as the rest of the boat. Expensive when new, so worth salvaging as there are a lot of boats still using them.
With the boat. If yo that you use marine exhaust manifolds and if you are going to use it in salt water the manifolds need to be cast Iron also put riser's on them as well. They will prevent or help prevent water rushing back up the exhaust pipes if you stop or stall quickly. Normally jet units have baffles that fold down behind the nozzle which will give you neutral and reverse. I haven't seen that type of coupling on a jet but I'm guessing it would be a reduction box of some sort. Salt water will destroy any engine quickly if you don't prepare it for the conditions like the Perkins has been. Also a closed cooling system would also be advisable.
Well that's a damn shame it was sitting in too much water for too long but that's a nice big Perkins like a 300 horse at least 300 and a nice big jet I'm sure that boat if you can get it to run will be fun because it has a big jet on the back you should be able to do 30 mph easily. Most important thing drain the bilge dry and keep it dry that's what happens when you have a hatch that's open to the elements it always fills up for damn water because you left the plug in and you have a dead battery and the the bilge pump is not pumping the water out of the boat. But on the good side you know diesels you'll get it running
Ahoy mi arties!! Is it a fair comment you're doing anything but working on Russian tanks now?!! 🧐😁😁 Did I miss the part where you said there was diesel in the tank, and you'd bled the system? As always, I wish you good luck, let's forget about the big crack in the hull, and the turbo, I'm holding my breath for the next episode, will it be the boat, the Thorneycroft, or the tank! 😃👍👍👍🙂
