Brooke and I recently bought 5 acres in interior Alaska and on that land there is an abandoned survival cabin / Bunker. today we're all going to take a look at what was left inside!!!!
You might want to give the property a once over with a metal detector. Its possible they buried some guns. If they put them in in a large PVC pipe or mortar tube or such you might find the guns you didn't find in the cabin. Because I sure as hell wouldn't leave them unattended in a building. You never know.
Mystery and intrigue. There’s nothing quite like exploring old places like that. I got excited just watching you guys clean it lol. Thanks for another great video.
Absolutely. However a "Bunker" implies that it's underground or partially underground. This is not a bunker at all. It's more of a hunting shack or a wilderness shelter for when the previous owner(s) were doing work on the land. Something that was slapped together relatively quickly. Built around that stove.
This happens to me all the time when I buy an old vintage trailer. Many times the treasures are worth more than the trailer is. I once found $1500 in cash in an envelope back behind the stove in an old trailer. You just never know. $11k for 5 acres? That's a steal. Ya done good.
You summed it up perfectly with words of broken dreams. I have come across many places that reflected broken dreams as I have hunted and explored remote areas of Canada and Appalachia. I wondered about the people and hoped they found their way. Thanx for sharing. God bless.🙂
Now this is what I think is fun!! Some people like going out to bars to drink and others clothes shopping at a mall but this type of rummage hunt is so damn exciting to me! I’m so jealous! 😂
You should work in the storage industry like me. This is my everyday stuff getting left behind.WARNING is not a job if you are inclined to be a hoarder!!
You guys make me smile ! By the way, I watched that ALONE "roundup" and they did feature a checker's game but not anything about Brook's effort in Mongolia (oh well). And so.... A 12/12 Truss roof over that cynderblock structure. Even with small scale tree stock (like an ALONE structure). Then either 6 ml ~ or better 10 ml, high carbon, greenhouse grade plastic. (I hope you haven't just "knocked down" your bunker.). The Bunker probably is fairly bear proof. ~~~ My "Tarp Mahal" (the neighbor calls it that) is 24/32 feet with a 18 foot peak, 10 foot ceiling truss with gambrel roof and girts made from political sign wire (lots of that here in New Hampshire). One inch /10' conduit with "fixtures." Then the whole thing is covered with 6 ml plastic made in Israel via a distributor in Cleveland. Cost was $500.00. 20 years so far with one roof layer added 8 years ago. Takes a two foot wet snow load. Anyway I pray you keep the "Bunker" and add to it. Best wishes ~ always.
Great video!! We bought a town lot property that was covered in old broken structures and trash. It cost $10k in dump fees to haul it all away. We sold it and doubled our money. The neighbors were happy to have it cleaned up and ended up buying it from our buyer to keep clear for the children to play.
My wife and I just returned from the UP, having spent the better part of two months clearing the land we purchased in the Ottawa NF. During the pandemic we built a shed in the back yard based on your design, a dry run for things to come, God willing.. Great vid as always, you guys rock.
@@jmsfabrication7821 yeah, I'm actually embarrassed by the amount I paid. But, it's right next door to our daughter's place, it's just the perfect situation. It's also in the Hiawatha National Forest. I keep telling myself...at least for now, it's worth it...
That was too much fun! Brooke takes the bravery prize, for sure... Even if there wasn't any actual "treasure", it was a great find, and what an adventure anticipating finding who-knows-what. Thanks for letting us all watch! :-D
Since its antiseptic, the alcohol would prevent the presence of bacteria or anything harmful, at worst she'd just get a bit of dust on her lips. And given how good the condition of the food was in, it shouldn't have been too much time ( over 3+ years )@@rickwaldo4150
My kids and I love watching your videos! We have some small properties and have cleared them one will get a family built building . Thanks for all you ideas and videos!
I think the most valuable thing you found in that cabin was data. For example, will a sealed jar of peanuts last a really long time if I put them in a plastic bin? The answer is yes, as long as they stay sealed, they will outlast the building they are in. Does mouth wash that is sealed ever go bad? Not for many many years. Finding what will survive though the end of the world and what you have to keep always rotated and replaced is very valuable...though an old lever gun would had been cool to find, ha.
@@BrianKrahmer Depending on how old it is. I am conditioned to be able to eat rancid things so I would be fine, but I can see why that would be a consern. Always have to be careful with things that have a lot of oils or surgars.
@@BrianKrahmer Nah, Peanut oil comes from crushing and boiling peanuts into absolutely nothing but liquid and as long as it is stored in a cool dry place literally never goes back. Storing it in a plastic container in the shade that never gets any sun, IN ALASKA I guarantee that it never got above 40 degrees, it's still good.
I was introduced to a survivalist who lived in a suburb of Albany, NY. I was shown his "fortified" basement where he had everything his family needed to live during the apocalypse. It was very impressive. That was 50 years ago???
I was watching to see what you two would find. Later I thought about what you did not find. A wood stove yes but a woodpile, no. I liked the cement cubby holes. This was a great idea. Tang--I am old enough at 70+ to remember Tang going to outer space. Brooke a lot of mouth rinse has alcohol in it. No wonder you didn't keel over after the swig. You and Dave are AMAZING. Thank you for sharing your adventure!
Congratulations on the new property, looking forward to seeing what plans you have for this one. The biggest treasure you found here was a glimpse into a strangers life. Someone who moved around that land and made it home. Discovering a part of who this guy was. What he considered important (oral hygiene) and necessary to store...the "BAGS"!
@@deedle6073 No, more like a place for a somewhat inexperienced someone to hide in the possibility of an apocalyptic event. Dig a little deeper and those guns might still be found with a stash of fishing gear to complement the survivability options.
Y’all are living the dream! My wife and I bought 9 acres in the cascade mountains last year and are slowly building our dream as well. Many blessings y’all
JACKPOT !!! I'd feel extremely blessed to find that and all the goodies. Learn what worked to preserve stuff and keep it safe and what didn't. Lots of fuel for big bon fire, and I would absolutely install new roof and use that cabin. Awesome buy !!!!!!
You always make your videos so down to earth but with that air if expectation and whether you find something or not one is is never disappointed. Simply filled with hope for the next adventure with you both. Thankyou Dave and Brooke much love and blessings from AuskiHeth Down Under in Aussie 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👏✌️👍😃🇺🇲
Y'all are soooo blessed! I wish we could afford some property like that for my family. Tell Brooke I love that she prays on camera before meals. A family that prays together stays together! Sending love from East Texas! ❤️
Finding a strange bunker on my property would honestly freak me out at first. It definitely has a ominous vibe! Thank goodness that place was being used for its intended purpose and not something evil. Love your guys content!
That was like a treasure hunt (maybe a stinky one at times) but none the less, a treasure hunt. Love the property and can't wait to see what you and Brooke do with it. Love both of y'alls videos!
I'll say this.. the sides look good, perhaps if you remove the junk, you can dig down, make cold storage, and put in flooring and a roof. Insulation of course... I'll bet it would make a good storage unit for the stuff that won't fit in your new house... Thinking positive on this! Can't wait to see what you build!
thought so too. i mean the roof collapsed shure but the walls withstand the weather pretty well all those years and seems pretty thick and sturdy. guess with a solid new roof this could be again a shelter for emergencys.
Cool find! Definitely items that can be recovered and utilized for sure! Nothing goes to waste if it's functional / serviceable! Thanks for sharing guys! Be safe out there!
Good morning Dave! So glad to see you, and Brooke making videos. The work you put into, and all that you do is over the top! Thanks for your Alaska road trips, and the way you guys make your videos!👍😊You are a Superb Video Presenter! Great work...
Just watched season 4 of alone the first time with my girlfriend. I knew I recognized you from somewhere. You and Brooke are rockstars, very few women would show no fear alone with a wolf, and very few men these days could do the hike you did. Very impressive hope all is well
Love everything you guys do!!! You have inspired me to make major changes in my life. Bought a small HUD-Son Sawyer bandmill,2 old garden tractors (Allis Chalmers B,C) prompted by your Alaska log cabin video. Most importantly saving money to buy bare land (after watching cabin video build behind your house in Michigan) . When looked in the camera and told the story about the guy at the Fairbanks dump with no lower extremities. I knew right then that was no excuse!! I can do it, and am learning as I go. Thanks Dave for being an inspiration (life changing)! Your Awesome Dude!!!
The hubs and I are currently watching you and your lovely wife on season 4 of alone and my notifications alert me to your video.. the show gets paused as I holler out "hey honey, Dave just dropped a new video!" We were not disappointed. Congrats on the new property, we can't wait to see what you two come up with next. :)
5 acres for the price of a used Camry...that's amazing. Well done! Within a few hours drive from where I live in Australia, despite copious amounts of land, 5 acres would be $200k+ easily (and that's for the bottom of the barrel). It definitely puts up a big hurdle to doing what you and Brooke do - so I just live vicariously :)
@@dougmcdougal3777 Australia.....a safe place? You obviously haven't been here then hahaha. Nearly everything wants to eat you or bite you? It's hot ASF in summer (it's nice right at the moment) But yeah what the first guy says stands true. $200K plus
@@Jarmezrocks .......Im refering to gun crime and the idea that there is a serial killer on every corner in alaska. Highway of tears ring any bells smart guy. Id rather live along side dangerous wild animals than along side some disgusting sicko with guns when there is no one around to call for help.
The main downside to remote property in Alaska is it can be inaccessible due to snow half of the year. I also imagine getting any power lines run to your property would be difficult to impossible. :)
@@Jarmezrocks what are you saying everything what's to eat or bite us. Crocodiles spiders and snakes. Sharks in the water. No lions or tigers moose wolves Pumas leopards Wolves. Are you an Aussie like me. That lives here.
Very cool. Is there any chance that there might be an underground storage area? Who in their right mind would build a flat roof in Alaska using 2x4 as roof joists?
Love it! My Dad, brother and I rented this old cabin just south of Moorestown, Michigan for deer season one year. The hitch was we had to clean it out to get it functional. It was full of old goodies. Only way better condition than your new cabin, lol.
What at awesome video Dave! And there must be a crazy story surrounding the "Grout Cabin," LOL. Who says no to free mouthwash?? Can't wait to see what you do up there! Cheers dude!
Very cool video. Fun to watch you explore and makes me want to buy cheap land where you don't have to pay taxes! We loved watching you build a structure on your land in Michigan!
You just never know what is still hiding in that old building until it's all cleaned up. Look on the bright side, it has to be cleaned anyway. Sorry I don't get to watch ya'll as much lately. I packed up the whole famdamily and we moved to Idaho, lots of work restoring an old house and other fun stuff.
Fascinating ! Incredible that you can buy such a piece of land. Here in Belgium impossible beacuse it is densely populated. Wish we had more space. Thanks for the video !
Dude!!! That is cool. You know how I love digging through old crap. You just never know what you will find. Bummer you didn't find anything super cool. Have fun buddy!!!
Hi Dave and Brooke, awwww I was hoping you'd find something really kool. Altho I did like the base of that oil lamp, and the little stoves. Can't wait to see what your going to build on this property. Love ya guys💗
Thanks Dave. I enjoy the treasure hunt I hope you have time to dig a little deeper. and who knows you might get it cleaned out before you know it. I really dig your vids. Thanks for sharing!!
That's the kind of building that can be easily renovated to suit your own purposes. You've already got the walls, just sort out a decent roof, fix the door, and you've got a sturdy abode.
The log cabin I built 50 years ago back in the woods in northern Minnesota had the same stuff in it. Of course, I put a decent roof on it, so it is still standing. The property is now owned by a friend of mine who lives on it in his own cabin. He uses my caold bin for storage.
