As you mention authors, you had some good ones. Bradford Angier is the weakest. He repeats previous books by whole paragraphs, and entire chapters. His research for Undaunted Courage was weak and that led him astray about the reality of the true story. Perhaps he had been weak all along? Or, perhaps he declined with age. The outcome is the same, either way. Not original, or authentic. Just weak. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
I have a 38 foot drilled well with metal casing. The water is at 19 feet. From what I understand these type of pumps would let be get at about 6 feet of water? I plan on using a metal fitting with barbs on the other end on the bottom of the pump the clamping pvc to it. Any suggestions or a good place to by a hand pump that may go a little deeper? I will probably rig the well bucket back up. The well hasnt really been used in 60 years. Just a side project.
Dave, thanks for the video. I envy you. I attempted to build a cabin in the Colorado mountains. Between septic scams and the building dept after 16 months I gave up my 800 sq ft. Cabin and sold out. I had to split your cabin , watching it in 2 parts. You were making me want to try again. I live in Asia now and have to remind myself that for the lower 48 it's just not possible. You'll never satisfy the new universal building codes. Enjoy your cabin bud
Dave, love the stories you tell here. As an old welding instructor once told me - if you're new to welding, the best investment you can make is in a quality grinder and lots of discs. :)
Great video and nice project. It gives a lot of information about the construction process, but is also just relaxing and interesting to watch. I could almost smell the eggs and hash cooking up on the fire. Thanks!
“Grinder and paint make the welder I ain’t!” Good first attempt. If I can offer a few pointers as an novice welder myself, don’t let anyone knock your abilities because anyone who has ever hired a welder to do the most basic welds will tell you that a four hour minimum charge will prove to you that you’ve been purchasing the worst harbor, freight welder to do one job will save you money and as long as the weld doesn’t break, you did your job as long as you’re not going to be inspected for your work, building, a skyscraper, or if an oil tanker is depending on your welds to be waterproof. Not only did you do it yourself, but you made a RU-vid video and we’re humble about it… Off to the recommendation, get a sheet of steel to weld on, have a fire extinguisher, handy, a bucket of water, a couple of latex gloves, filled with aloe vera in the tips in case you burn your fingers, and even if you only well for a few hours, make sure you get a good welding helmet, and some kind of respirator as no money in the world saved will replace your eyes and lungs(skin on the other hand, grows back so knock yourself out on cheap gloves)
Dav I truest love watching your videos and hey I do just a little home welding and cutting so I bough me a portable band saw I feel it will help me in cutting steel when I’m makeing some and buy the way I bolt my own snow blade for my Fourwheeler I’m pleased it works great
I had a similar one to this, bought off ebay during the pandemic lockdown. Wasnt 100% effective but WOW what a workout! The amount of strength and stamina needed was incredible. I changed one tyre then threw it out afterwards.NEVER AGAIN! 😂
I have a vintage Coleman lantern from the 30s. Works fine. "The Sunshine of the Night." The light truly can be blinding. And the sound it makes is oddly comforting. Electricity is silent. But a Coleman is mechanical. It produces sound and light. A strange combination. Like a campfire.
Ты молодец. Хорошее у тебя видео, доброе, вдохновляющее. Спасибо за контент. Скоро и я начну строить маленький домик на природе. Хочу отдыхать от суеты вдвоём со своей женой)))
I like the idea but I think there's still merit in reading. Mattis said "Unless you have read hundreds of books you are functionally illiterate... because your own experiences are not broad enough to sustain you" I think reading from reputable authors can shorten the learning curve. I also agree it's important to make your own experiences and write it down. Especially on something so hands on as bushcraft. But you're using the word hypothetical wrong. A majority of the authors you listed have conducted what is in their book and they have included it because it does work repeatedly for them making it theory, not hypothesis. Just because of a regional issue or a skill issue on your part does it revert to hypothetical. I only make such an impassioned comment because there is an implicit approach of discrediting some of the authors. For instance, because Mors Kochanski didn't live a life 100% dedicated to bushcraft. Meanwhile other credible instructors like Cody Lundin refer to him as a mentor. Woniya a winner of the show Alone mentions she called him for advice before going on the show. Don't get me wrong don't buy every book with the word bushcraft/survival on it and take it as gospel, conduct some research into th author.
You and your Wife are hardworking soles. This video must be one of the best motivational speaking videos I watched on RU-vid in a long time, thank You all the way from Pretoria South Africa....
Glad you and Daisy were ok!!! I love your positivity and kindness rewards you when the 💩💩💩💩 hits the fan !!! This is the 2nd time I've seen this. God bless 🙏
My hats off to you! That is no doubt one of the most helpful how to videos I've ever seen on anything. What a breath of fresh air it is to have someone post a video from a complete novice point of view. I'm sure there are other videos on RU-vid done this way, but I watch how to videos on a regular basis (daily) and do not recall seeing one produced by someone who has virtually no knowledge of the subject matter. I can't imagine a more helpful video when it comes to taking away someone's doubt or apprehension about learning a new skill. Nicely done!!
Very good content. I personally disagree with your stokes when sharpening. Over time if when sharpening mis matched 1 stroke here 3 strokes on the next will cause the chain to cut on the piss . I've all ways taken the time to take the same amount of stokes on each tooth to help keep it cutting straight.
