About 1956, Doc turned the old Tennessee Rock Products silo structure, an abandoned slate quarry that operated from 1920-1928, into a seven-story house. There was one floor and thus he added six more. He put a staircase around the outside and on the inside. The building became known as the "Roundhouse." Kenneth Saunders operated a restaurant in the building for a few months in 1958. Fire regulations blocked further use of the facility. He and Arminda moved from Coker Creek to the house he built beside the roundhouse about 1957. When he died at age 84 in 1967, he was still practicing medicine in an office which he maintained in the home of his daughter, Helen Rogers Hamilton. The Charles Hall Museum houses the medicine bag he was using when he died. Doc is buried in his native Violet, North Carolina, alongside Arminda.

Sometime in 1978 or so, I stood in the living room of the house. I was visiting Josh Graves who played Dobro with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Graves ) His brother Dick was living there at the time and Josh had come in for a visit. (I was a fan of Josh's, so I took my Dobro over to pick a little.) I had met his nephew in Knoxville a day or two before and he told me Josh was in town so I made the drive from Powell to Tellico Plains. The roundhouse was vacant and looked just like it does in you video. The house was of course still livable and we made a little music and had some beef stew for lunch. Sad to see it caved in so.

Josh's nephew Tim still plays the dobro made it pretty good. Check him out on The farm hands on RU-vid or on the net

@@davidgraves1859 Tim is the one who invited me here. Dick Graves lived here and Buck (Josh) was visiting. I'd met Tim the night before so he invited me up to meet his uncle Josh, pick a bit, and had some beef stew, hot peppers and a beer. Awesome day.

Dr. Rogers was a visionary. He and my Mom are first cousins. I remember his kindness.

I live right next to Tellico, sadly you used to be able to just drive right up to it. The rock quarry was fun to swim in and I was told the mine that you kinda filmed for a second was used as a salt peter mine at one point. I'm not sure though, it was a ranger that told me though. There are rails and equipment still in the bottom of it. (at least when we rappelled down when in high school.) There are some old silver mine about 10 minutes up the road as well. Nothing fancy like out west but still pretty neat. Cool video, thanks!

I used to live in that house back around 1998-1991 with my dad, mom, and brother. I loved going into the round house. It was cool to explore. Not far from the round house is a place called the gloryhole. It was a slate and iron quarry. It still exists today.

I know the person who wrote all that stuff on the walls. He is dead now, died this year of lymphoma. He was in his late 30s. He was around 15 years old when he wrote those things. We visited this place a lot as kids along with the lake that's on up the road. Some of my best stories came out of that area.

The mine was used by the Tellico Slate and Iron company and it is where they dug up Slate and then the ground it up into dust which was stored in the silo (now round house) and then shipped all over the world. It’s color was unique and there is even a paint named Tellico Slate Blue.

That is the most accurate one yet I lived in the main house about 36-37 years ago my cousin Dick had moved out and the house was available so I rented it the main house was in pretty good shape back then. But The roundhouse was just about like it is now later I moved up the road and left with Dad at the lake just above the roundhouse for about 20 years

its not legal to go there or on the bridge to no where as far as i know. INSURANCE is always the problem. we all know how they ruined the beach because of a lawsuit. however having climbed up in the round house about 25 yrs ago myself i kind of enjoy seeing this on youtube. thank you for doing it.

+Joshua Harris Vlogs Yeah definitely man it's really cool. If you get the chance check out his Sanatarium on Unicoi Mountain. Crazy hike but really cool once you get there. Be sure to go behind the house and there are concrete bunkers where they mined slate rock. Really cool area... 4 or 5 mines that look like caves.

Just FYI folks... That property is PRIVATE, and is clearly posted at the gate, and the round house. There are new people watching over that property and the hunting preserve above it. They DO NOT give warnings, they also have cameras hidden and send pictures of vehicle tags to Sheriff's Department. Don't ask how I know, just trust me.

If you're going to produce a information video you should at least convay the proper information. The property was a mine site hence the mine opening in the hill side. The round house started out as a solo. It was not renovated to be apartments it was going to be a hotel before being shut down by the fire marshal. At one point the first floor was a restaurant. The property is now up for sale. Lastly if you're going to film for posting we would appreciate it if you filmed more of the location and less of your face.

@Deidra Blevins you talking to me?? If you are then what part of asking for the proper info did you not understand? Your turn, does it make you feel better trying to dig up crap about someone else's post?? There's such a large opening on the post, you could mean just about anything on a open thread. I don't care anything about you except you want to start something with someone you don't even know. Except you want to wag your tongue but not smart enough to have a Actually reason for anything you have to say....i think your new hair cut looks like a dog carpped on your head while you were sleeping. Makes no seance about anything I just wrote does it? YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY TO ME? TAKE THE DILLDO OUT OR YOUR MONTH AND TRY AGAIN. OK YEA I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER NOW. IPs can easily be tracked and located. You might have started you might regret. UNDER STANED???
