That is a Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) GG1 electric type locomotive. Sad to see it rotting away as it could have been preserved. All units similar to this were absorbed into the failure merger ‘Penn Central’ (the merger between PRR and New York central) where it would be repainted into the black penn central livery. 3 years after PC was formed, they filed bankruptcy. Then the government made 2 new railroads: Amtrak (for passenger) and conrail (for freight). Conrail was meant to replace penn central and would own almost all of the now bankrupt company, penn central. Looks like this unit has conrail reporting marks 0:09 (CR) and also sports the reporting marks of that history society 0:00 (AARX) and you can even see the faded penn central logo in the middle too at 0:00. And even after all that time, it still wears the iconic Pennsylvania keystone logo on one end of the unit 0:05 It’s a shame that they are just rotting away. only 139 of the PRR GG1s were built, and most were scrapped in conrail days. Today only 16 remain preserved in museums. 🤓☝️
Idk why but i guess in us, many trains are recycled or melted down for some other purpose, but i have totally seen a whole train laying around for years. So idk how both things can be true. 😅
