Volvo Amazon found in northern Sweden, parked in the 1990s to be a parts car. Some parts were taken to be used on another Volvo Amazon, the whole brake system and some other minor parts. Been standing in the woods for the last 30 years.
As a Volvo tech for 40 years, this brings back a lot of memories. I haven't worked on a 122 in probably 30 years. I miss those days. Simplicity = reliability.
@@bartjanflikkema the old Volvo was strong , simple, heavy duty car ,,, but now volvo is not more than chinese junk , i have 2022 electric volvo , change battery under waranty new in the box ( MADE IN CHINA ) , and now electric motor noisy , dealer order new one in the box ( MADE IN CHINA ) , why i pay for volvo and i get a CHINESE JUNK ??? next time i will buy a Geely , same car at half price
@@fredlabonte8946 Jup sadly it is. As goes for so much. I drive a 2017 Suzuki nowadays and an 1985 190d. It surprising how much those 2 have in common regarding build quality and serviceability. I know Suzuki is not everybody's cup of tea as they tend to do everything quite old fashioned (with still impressive fuel economy!) But that's exactly what I like about them. A wheel is round, a knob is a knob, a radio a radio, and you don't need to dig out a stupid oil filter as that is on a relatively modern Peugeot for example.
My wife's Grandparents had one of these lovely Volvo cars in the 1970s and I remember driving it myself. I seem to remember the gear stick being very long indeed, and the car itself was as heavy as a tank, but such quality in the build, I loved it.
too many wives ? which wife ? which volvo car ? most of husbands are ........from universities of state universities wifes car is volvo ? volvos husband anna university ? aarupadai veedu research foundation primary husband of all cars ???
Many decades ago I repaired those 122 series Volvo’s. They were so very well built and extremely easy to work on. I think I need to go find one like this and bring it back 👍🏻
In the '60s my Father worked for ab K.J. Levin of Malmo (refigerators/freezers etc.). His company car was a Volvo 122 (25 EXX). That really was a cut above the average British car! The ride, the internal comfort - we were very lucky to have experienced that. Excellent video, thank you!
Grew up in one, my dad owning a nice grey one. Then I owned one for about 7 years. They should have called it the Volvo Amazing. Unbelievably reliable and powerful these engines...everything. The way they drove....they don't make them like that anymore.
You can't kill a Volvo. It's a very reliable car. With the proper care it can serve you for many decades. This one will make someone very happy to own. I am a proud owner of 2010 XC70 Station Wagon Cross Country and I love it. It still look like brand new at 240,000 Km.
This abandoned Volvo, once left to the elements, now stands proudly on the road, a testament to perseverance and the timeless allure of classic automobiles.
I enjoy all your videos but this one was really good seeing it not go on a trailer but come back to life a drive from its grave in a bid to survive. Also seeing more of you doing what you do was good.
Amazing recovery. I remember as a kid my folks almost bought one in the early 60's. The dealer didn't want to give Dad enough for our trade in so we walked out.
My dad has one of those. Still driving it around every now and then. Just took some stuff to the recycling centre in a VW Transporter T2 from ca. 1970. It's fun to drive too, although in a very different way :)
My 122S has been in the family since it was new. Purchased by my grandfather, passed on to my mother and given to me when I was 16. This is my 43rd year of ownership and I'm doing a lot of refurbishing and restoration so she will last me until I leave this world. The Volvo 120 series is the perfect combination of strength, safety, style and simplicity.
The old Volvos were indestructible, thick metal and bomb-proof motors, a total tank. Volvos after 1971 didn't have the legendary solidly built reputation, I own a 1972 Volvo 144S in yellow and a 1976 Volvo 244S in Green and the cars would break and be in a garage ever 2 or 3 weeks, and in those days service at the dealer was quite expensive. The reputation of the indestructible 1960's Volvo has been tarnished forever. My favorite Volvo was the Roger Moore (of the Saint) 1966 Volvo 1800, what a sports car. The good old days. Thank you for the memories!
At 7:45 that distinctive B18/B20 sound they make when being turned by the starter brings back memories of my 1969 Volvo 144 with a B20. Haven't driven it in over 25 years. Maybe I should
Super!! Jetzt noch restaurieren...
Risen from the dead! In 1965 neighbor from Sweden had car just like this that was brought over from Sweden. If I remember it had a manual choke that was used when started cold. Wonder if this car was the same? Nice video!
They indeed have manual chocke that you can pull from the inside, same with Volvo 142. I had one that I restored with my dad. He still has one of these Amazons as a summer car.
Manual chokes existed on new cars in the 80´s even at least on some makes and models so its not surpricing that a car produced in the 60´s of a model that was intruduced in the 50´s has that.
Bra Hampus! Fokus på ämnet.
I recognize the sound of that engine a mile away. My parents had 2 Volvo's, both 122, one Break with twin carburetors and the standard one with twin carburetors and overdrive. they both went after more than 400 000 klicks and a lot of abuse.
As you can see, these vehicles were ready to roll anytime without issues like computer fault codes. This reminds me of the 244 I used to repair. Why do they abandon these vehicles in the first place?
I had both a 1962 and a 1965 122S. They never let me down. Now I have a 2019 XC90 very modern car with all the bells and whistles! I also have a 1995 SAAB Aero.
They don't build them like this anymore. It takes more than this to overcome the many electrical issues my brand new Silverado has. Barely over 6000 miles and it lights up like a Christmas tree when I turn it on.
Had a 67 for years...great old school cars, not pretentious and fun to drive as well. I am not a mechanic and was able to do all the basic service from oil changes to valve adjustments and spark plugs,
Great video. My '66 was towed out of a field with 5 cm of water in each footwell. It was an automatic so I took out the engine/trans and put in a '67 motor with a 4 speed/overdrive
All the Volvo's was extremely reliable since the 2nd WW, easy to maintain and easy to pull out the engine, a bit less to handle the gearbox! When it was much to the chagrin of the people that it went out of production but the variants of the engine was produced way up to the eighties..
I love to see you taking this car alive. I'm portuguese, and I also love old cars. I love this Volvo shape, but my favorite cars are old BMW'S. I have a few ones. Good luck
After you squirted oil in the bores (good move) I'm surprised you didn't spin the engine over before replacing the plugs. Lucky you didn't oil them up. I'm impressed that the old coil still worked. Any reason you didn't add coolant before starting? Anyhow, lovely video, and well done for rescuing the old girl. I had a 122S 40 years ago, and wish I still had it. Now I just have a 144 as a spare car.
Loving this content! The engine sound is quite similar to my 940 B230 actually 😂 Glad to see these videos have gained quite a few views 👍 looking forward to more!
I had one of these in the sixties. Great car. I sold it to a young lady who told me she was heading from florida to california. She actually called me a couple of months later to say she got there OK, and the car ran great all the way.
I was born in 1975. My dad use to drive one of these back in the late 70s-early 80s. Remember the white leather seats use to be murder on the back of my short-trouser-wearing legs on hot sunny days. Always get nostalgic whenever I see one round London.
