A friend just found this clip for me. I have told people for years I sang with ABBA in 1979 at the Orange Bowl. Finally proof! Here's the story...ABBA joined up with UNICEF's Year of the Child. My recollection was that they had a youth choir join them on stage for two songs at each of their concerts. Orange Elementary was the school they chose for this concert. There were 10 girls and 10 boys. They were short on girls, so myself and another were chosen from 7th grade because we had been in the elementary choir the year before. I was 12 years old. I remember them being so nice to all of us. They spent time back stage rehearsing with us, which is the clip shown here, and chatting with us. What a joy to find this video. Thank you!
Holly, what a wonderful opportunity! Obviously an experience that has stayed with you your entire life. And what a thrill it must be view documentary clip so you can relive the experience again! What a blessing!
I was at the ABBA concert in Anaheim in 1979. I was 22 years old. I drove down to the Anaheim Convention Center from Encino, California. It was a great concert. I remember Agnetha had shorter hair than I was used to seeing. The Orange County Childrens Choir was really good that night too - there were so many kids. It was a huge entourage. I really liked the blue polar sets for Voulez Vous. I'll never forget that night. I was always an ABBA fan from the beginning.
US record companies were and still Are way to greedy towards any music that comes from outside USA !!! Back in a day the whole world was going crazy about ABBA but not USA!? Record companies knew ABBAs success would leave other best selling acts in the dust!!! Luckily fans showed all their support and - if you like it or not - they stormed US market like a tornado!!!
Thanks for posting this fascinating flashback. ABBA was a great live act and I regret I never had the chance to see them in concert. A rock purist friend of mine saw them perform in Toronto in 79. He says he was dragged kicking and screaming to the show but to this day he still ranks it as one of the best concerts he's ever seen.
I saw them in Toronto on October 7, 1979. I have some far away photos. I was so excited. I met Stig Andersson. They have gone back to their hotel, and I was disappointed that I could not meet them.
Wonderful to hear holly I saw them in Chicago in 1979 I was 13 it was so great I love I have a dream and Chiquita is so awesome agnetha is soloing again maybe soon with frida
Something i notice in the hazy film of the Los Angeles concert at the end of this report, which was the 6th concert in the tour, is how fresh and rested A & F look, by the time they got to Wembley and its filming 6 weeks later they looked rightfully stressed out by the hectic pace of the tour.
This documentary is annoying in that it keeps going on about A8BA making money , like a hit factory ...it simply was not the case ...they wrote for the love and pleasure of entertaining people
Im ny opinion they will go dwn in history as one of the Best Bands..On Talent writing the songs. And the Voice of Agnetha is over the top Beautiful..I absolutely love that classy lady...I saw a documentary on her. and she had a not so easy life...But Agnetha is going out again Solo..ive heard some of her songs on her Album..i think its called simply "A"....So Talanted
The biggest disappointments in my life is that I had a chance to see the Beatles and ABBA live in concert and I choose not to go, and I didn't remember why. Maybe I thought, "the next time they come to town". Go see your favs when you get the chance, there may never be another time. Thanks for posting. pin
Amazing to have this "new" old footage! Thank you so much for posting it. Wouldn't it be fabulous if somewhere there existed a FULL filmed live concert of them?
I was 16 when they came to the US and my parent's wouldn't let me take a train or bus to go see them in NYC or Boston. I live in Hartford, CT and was so pissed at my parents!!!! I wish they came to the Hartford Civic Center.
Keith G Same thing happened to me. “We’ll take you to see them next time,” my father said. Shortly after the band came and went, I reminded him that he said he’d take me to see them next time they came to North America. He laughed and said, “They’ll never be back,” which broke my heart a little. Too bad he was right.
Not a myth. In 1980/81 for a few years, Abba was not allowed to perform as Abba. This is due to income tax investigations, because they WERE Sweden‘s largest corporation. They had businesses that owned businesses, that owned businesses, and there was a lot of income tax checking. Everything was eventually settled, but they had already moved on to other things, by the time that happened. I know for sure because at the time I was heavily involved in the music industry.
Yes ..they split on Christmas Eve 78 asnd were finally divorced in 81 ( Bjormn & Agnetha) ..Frida & Benny married in 78 and divorced in 81 ..but they remain good friends to this day
@@eduardooscar309 I'd read that it was in 1981 but perhaps that info was incorrect I the books and fan club inglformation ..Ive been a fan since 77..where did you get your information from?
