Lyrically and musically one of the best songs ever written. Listening now, all their songs still sound current and relevant. Agnetha's soprano voice is as crystal clear as ever in this song and even today, 40 years later she still has a beautiful voice.

My wife and I have talked about the effect this song had on us as kids when it was on the radio(12 or 13 years old). It's very mature and presents a completely different view of being an adult than other songs at the time i.e Undercover Angel etc. Her quote is that it would "absolutely wreck" her and make her tear up. So sad.

How have I missed this! o_O Probably ABBA's best song and one of my faves ♥ Agnetha is one of the most underrated vocalist. Such a voice! Great song! If you really listen close, I think that they both kinda feel bad and there are no real winners in a divorce/break up

You should react to “Dancing Queen” with your mother. She has an almost uncanny resemblance to a younger Queen Silvia of Sweden. Anyone in Sweden of a certain age will always associate that song with her, ever since ABBA’ first live performance of it, in front of King Carl XVI Gustaf and his bride-to-be, on live television at the Royal Opera House in 1976, the evening before their wedding.

Great job, guys. It just blows my mind that your mom has never heard this song before. I love ABBA and can sing along to most of their songs, but this is my favorite song of theirs by a mile. If i was told I could only save one song by every artist, this would be the ABBA song I would save. I give it at least a 9, and some days it would be a lot higher depending on what's been going on. This is the most civil and genuine break up song ever written.

This is one that I've found in my later years and enjoy a great deal. My favorite ABBA song, and one I knew as a kid, is "The Name of the Game". It's a phenomenal pop song, with layers of meaning, a great bass line, and the pitch-perfect vocal harmonies that ABBA always delivers. Check that one out.

For a pretty young guy, Trey has a very mature musical perspective, in being able to determine how appreciation has grown for ABBA through the decades. Although obviously popular and enjoyed, their music wasn't critically appreciated at the time in the way it is today. Maybe that is because those type of pop songs are harder to come by in this day and age and there is a new appreciation of them as a consequence. Pop has become more formulaic and less heartfelt in recent decades, and not so emotionally demonstrative.

Spot on with your pop analysis as always. Thanks Jedikiah!

There is this idea that ABBA wasn't popular in Sweden back in the '70s. That is a lie cause their albums all sold Gold or Platinum here. Although the establishment didn't accept them cause back then music wasn't suppose to be commercial in Sweden. ABBA's sound/music was way more slick and sophisticated then the average music was.

The line “And I understand, you’ve come to shake my hand” always hit me the hardest. And I interpret it differently. Following the analogy of a relationship as a game, in the end the winner and loser shake hands, as they would at the end of a chess match, for example. That’s how I always took it, almost as a last gesture of respect that follows the admission of defeat.

I read a quote from a recent interview with Björn that he met his next wife to be one week after Agneta had moved out- which she did at Christmas '78. The band played together for four more years after that- must've been plenty of tension among them. I've always had ABBA as a soundtrack of my life - born in 1975, and living in Sweden. A Swedish singer you should check out is Tommy Körberg, (pronounced "Chuurberrj") especially his version of the song Anthem from the musical Chess- written by Björn and Benny.

ABBA stands for Agnetha Faltskog Bjorn Ulvaeus Benny Andersson and Annifrid Frid Lyngstad. Their manager stig anderson took the initials of their names and made ABBA. Agnetha and Bjorn( The girl with the blond and the guy playing the guitar) were married in 1971 their marriage was on rocky grounds at the height of ABBA's success in 1978. they separated in december 1978 and their divorce was filed in 1980 and when their divorce was filed the title the winner takes it all came to bjorn ulvaeus's mind. the song is about the pain of that divorce. Annifrid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson (The girl with the red hair and the guy playing the piano)were engaged in 1971 but did not marry until the height of ABBA's success in october 1978. 2 years after the marriage it went on rocky grounds for some reason. On November 26 1980 they separated and in late 1981 their divorce was filed. ABBA wrote the song When all is said and done for that divorce. Shortly after the filing of the 2 divorces in the group the song one of us was written and sung entailing the end of a love story and the pain of the 2 divorces in the group

ABBA had their own sound primarily because there was no American rock&roll being played on the radios in Sweden in the 50s' and 60s'. So there was no American influence for them. Benny Andersson loved the classics and the masters which you can tell in his piano playing. Benny created the music, Bjorn wrote the lyrics.

Note though, that Björn wrote the lyrics (not Agnetha) and that it is indeed fiction. He wrote it in a rather tipsy state and according to himself, it was inspired by both their situations and emotions. He actually first sang the text himself in the studio, but soon realised that Agnetha would do much it better. The other members agreed, the studio band too ;)

As well crafted this song is,high quality and popular,this is actually one of my least favorite ABBA songs,its just too sad.....I fully support that you guys do more ABBA reactions though,so Im good, :),happy with it.....keep the ABBA up :)...and thanks..and yes,I do enjoy this nevertheless :)..its a great song,just not one of my ABBA favorites. :) Sad lyrics too in your last ABBA reactions,actual similar lyric circumstances in that one, Knowing me knowing you,but I like that song better.

I really like you guys but I'm really disappointed as the video is integral to this wonderful song. As you know this is very poignant and seeing the video on other Reactions to this I was set to watch your reactions not only to the words but Agnetha , in particular, and the way she sang this as it was so close to home. I have watched many other Reaction videos where they have been 2 Reactors and they still had room for the video to be shown to us. It's particularly significant in this song assuming you are watching the usual version of this.... Good Luck anyway...

*what you have to understand is ever since they change format to make better sound they can't pull up RU-vid videos!! IF YOU WATCH ALL THE VIDEOS THEY'VE SAID IT MORE THAN ONCE!! THEY MAINLY USE SPOTIFY THEY USE RU-vid TO PULL UP SIMPLY A SONG!!* THEY DON'T DO THE SAME REACTIONS IS EVERYBODY ELSE AND THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO IT GETS OLD AFTER A WHILE SEEING THE SAME EXACT THING EVERY DAMN TIME. THE OTHER REACTORS DON'T GO IN-DEPTH OUT THE BAND OR A LOT OF BACKGROUND EITHER IT'S THE SAME OLD NONSENSE EXCEPT FOR ABOUT TWO OR THREE WHO I THINK ARE GREAT.. _and no the videos not as integral as you think when these songs came out there weren't any videos it was about oh how is video going to do, no the music that was being created_ 😲😵🔫
@Isleofskye
@Isleofskye 4 года назад
If they can't do it then they can't do it but it does NOT get OLD as every Reactor has their UNIQUE take on a song . Especially these Guys who are IN-DEPTH, as you say, and interesting., Others have still ALSO gone in-depth in their own chosen format. The in-depth and showing/not showing the video are not mutually exclusive. VIDEOS HAVE BEEN OUT SINCE Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975 and YOU ARE WRONG. In THIS instance the accompanying video IS significant as it is CLEARLY about their own situation and it's REALLY HELPFUL if we can see what THEY are reacting to VISUALLY as well as LYRICALLY. (This SHOUTING could catch on !)...

@@Isleofskye no it shouldn't get old cuz you should kind of know what to expect here..as I said there's plenty of other reviewers and reactors and analysis..if you said they do this they do that if they all jump in the lake to Sean and Trey do that too? if you don't like their style don't watch thier videos.. watch the other 100 + reactors. along with their gimmicky faces and everything else that I've seen. there's silly little introductions.. Here at RTTC, Brother Jamal, Brother Wayne AKA Soul Train bro and My boy Fil over in England with his wings of Pegasus in-depth analysis videos are pretty much all I want to see. and yes for the most part they show a video or sometimes they just show the album jacket depending on who the RU-vid uploader is I'm aware of that that's the way they like to do it that's fine... 75uh no.. I've watched videos of badfinger promo videos in 1970. Pete Ham killed himself in 1975 I've seen promo videos going way back into theBob Dylan's classic video for the subterranean homesick Blues from the 1965 bringing it all back home... later copied by Michael hutchence of INXS and a ripoff of that video. there's a classic video with Todd rundgren 8 mm from his days with the Naz called open my eyes.. there's classic 1960s videos with Steve Marriott in the small faces.. 1975 wasn't even the first year they started doing that.. so all I'm going to say about that🤔🤐😶 and further commenting 👋🚪

isleofskye we do have the ability to show the video and have on a few concert live performances but we choose not to do it in our song reaction format. We choose to focus on the music and only the music as the video can be distracting. For every one video that artists did as their interpretations of their songs there was a thousand that were simply pointless. We choose to do it this way and will continue to do it in that manner. Totally understand if it is not for you.

Good points, well-made Guys but there are some videos like Queen-Band Aid and Pink Floyd-Comfortably Numb ( PULSE version :) ) where the accompanying video is really worth seeing and it's good for us to see what you are looking at like Agnetha's melancholy during The Winner Takes All. Either way, I will still watch as I appreciate your analysis. Good Luck...
