That song criticized didn't sound at all like rap-rock. It was just Abbath being a bit faster with his vocal patterns. That being said, album sounds like its killer!
My first thoughts about the cover: it looks like a Power Rangers villain. However, I really enjoyed the album so far. Nothing blowing me away, but it's very enjoyable. Also, I'd wager we don't need anymore Metallica covers in general.
So glad to see KVAEN getting some light. Guys been grinding out some of the most amazing music and he’s an amazing dude. Definitely check out the first release too.
I enjoy this album a lot more than the last. Feels like he sunk more into the black n’ roll sound but also added a diminish chord sound signature to his melodies. Seems very Abbath all around. I give it 4/5 bathes 🤘🏽
I kinda disagree with your comment about the placement of the cover song, I actually prefer having cover songs in the middle of the album. One of my pet peeves is when a bad has a really strong closing song that ends the album in a definitive and satisfying way, and then just tosses in a random, like, King Diamond song or something after it that completely ruins the mood.
Good review mate. I kinda like having a cover song around the 5-7 mark of an album. Breaks it up, gives the opportunity to refresh and finish an album strong. Surprisingly, I actually liked his take on the song..... and I don't normally do "Metallica" cover songs (They normally suck balls)
Food poisoning is no fun, hope you're doing better now Blayne. Abbath sounds a lot better production-wise than Dark Funeral. Also, so happy that Kvaen got a shout out as that album is fantastic!
Totally agree - Metallica may not have realised that in 1984 they made a Black Metal masterpiece that was waiting for Abbath to cover it in 2022. Its stunning!!!
My cat's markings are eerily similar to Abbath's corpsepaint. I'll listen to this album, but I haven't been overly impressed with most of his "solo" stuff. I do like that Turst record, though.
Glad to see Abbath still doing his thing, strong record and I think I prefer this one's production over the last two. Also, there's a new Eucharist record out today if you need more frosty black(ened) metal :D
This album is huge!!!! I can challenge anyone who criticizes it...however I feel the cover should have been in the end....but it's really not a big deal
I was hoping this new album was going to crush and it does. I'm kinda okay with his vocals being mixed in the background and not up front because the music is phenomenal. I enjoy this one a lot more than Outstrider.
A new album from Glemsel was released this week, and that's pretty black metal, so you could have mentioned them, but two danish shoutouts in one video might be a bit too much.
Abbath has been on a mission to bring coolness to BM and man he just can do it! Because he's been there since the beginning! Are we still going to skip Death Spell Omega releases, I mean the music is sick and they say they are not fascists, Miko was. Why am I writing this, because they have released an album titled " The Last Defeat". Would this fall under Burzum, Drukh, ... even Iced Earth banner of booo booo list that you occasionally listen to only in private??? I do not know. But hey Blayne maybe we can mention them! I mean the music is quite sick right?
I guess I'm the odd one out here. I think this is probably his worst album. Not because the music is necessarily bad, but because I CAN'T FUCKING HEAR IT MOST OF THE TIME. The production is so muddy that the guitars are almost entirely lost. And before the kvltists start their little diatribe about how 'black metal is supposed to sound like shit', I think there's more than enough BM that proves that is absolute bullshit. Immortal/Abbath have always had this element to their sound, but it goes way too far here to the point where its hard to distinguish one song from the next, and I can't get a feel for the riffs. Dream Cull is probably the only exception, but Trapped Under Ice is just case and point. It sounds almost unrecognisable because everything is so messy. There's a balance to be had, and the balance is not right here IMO.
I wish their newest (2021) album was a little louder, whenever I get to a track from their new album after listening to something else I have to jack the volume way up
For amazing Black Metal, check out Kanonenfieber. They recently released a single about the current situation and the video that goes along with it just takes the song to a whole new level.
@@BabyfaceThompson yea,,that would be amazing....one day I hope. ..They got shirts on Season of mist site....I got excited to soon....thought there was a album Out too.
Nah, that song is definitely not rap metal. Simply growling fast is not rap. Slayer has some pretty quickly-delivered vocals and nobody would consider them rap metal
The production on this album is dreadful coupled with forgettable songs made for a very difficult and unpleasant listen, cant believe you gave it 4/5 when it doesnt warrant any more than 2.5
