It really does sound amazing, and the programming is top notch, but $449 for a single section of a section is just ridiculous. That's the same price as the entire BBC Symphony Orchestra Core package (and more than Cinematic Studio Strings in its entirety), but for just the Violins I section. If it were $449 for the whole strings section, that would be more excusable, but I can't think of anyone who would buy just the Violins I for that price. The whole Abbey Road Orchestra is going to be upwards of $10,000 at this point.

Orchestra Tools Berlin Strings also offers far more in the way of articulations and they are continuously making efforts to improve the Berlin Series. They updated the Legatos for Berlin Winds this year and I believe they are going back to improve the strings. I don’t think Spitfire cares much for keeping older libraries relevant when the technology advances.

@@envrie9423I can take care for the serious part :) CSS has one of if not the best legato algos there are. Sure, it requires patience as it is "laggy", but that's the price for true sounding transitions. Add true and intuitive same note rebowing (with sustain pedal), great selection of shorts and voila - CSS is widely considered to be the best "bread and butter strings on the market. Cons - no additional arts and dark sounding (for some people, not me though). Oh, and the whole library with all sections is cheaper than this one, with just V1s!

When you compare some of the really creative things other companies are doing with string libraries I see nothing really new here apart from some more articulations. I do like a lot of Spitfire stuff but some of it is quite 'samey'. Most composers have enough string librarys for their uses, especially main stream things like 'legato'. If this was an expansion to ARO Foundations at a reasonable price I might of considered it but Spitfire seems to be going over old ground with this one.
@thomasvinelli
@thomasvinelli 8 месяцев назад
They can do without so many mics. It really isn’t needed. People need to understand if your composition was excepted they would use real strings and record it again. A demo with samples is a demo. Great sounding samples libraries isn’t needed. Any other spitfire library will do. Like any company they have to come up with new libraries to stay in business. This Abby road series is really for professionals. As usual this string library trumps the rest that we’re supposed to be the latest greatest. It gets old and this software company as any of them is chasing the rabbit. You will never catch the rabbit.

for a stand-alone library of just violin 1s, I really was expecting true A and B divisi section recordings as well as true all-in-one (not artificially combined) recordings. turns out there is no divisi functionality at all, not even just an A section you can double-up for divisi parts. As divisi is available in some other spitfire string products, this can be officially cemented as NOT the most feature-complete string library for violin 1s.

It sounds very average for yet another string library. Already hear lot's of articulations problem from the demos. Also.. since abbey road 2 i don't buy SA products like that. What ever we critic to kontakt, their own interface is reallu not great and they never update their products that have many problems. (jumps in level, uneven sounds through articulations..) I guess sampling strings has reach a glass ceilling. It's been 5y that nothing comes out as innovative and different appart for sample modeling although not sounding that great. We could wait for Ai to solve this.. but most likely it will solve writing music all together :D

It really sounds wonderful, but the price for just first violins alone ($449) is astronomical. By the time the five string sections are released, a user would probably be looking at over $2000 for the full string choir in the pro version. I remember back in the day purchasing East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra (the full orchestra in the high end version, not just strings and not just first violins) for around $1800. But that was something like 2006 and prices for libraries have come way down since then. If the ARO Violins I were maybe $199, I could see it. At $449 I could never justify or afford it.

I think it's a bit cheeky to ask for the standard price of €399 just for the first violins. Professionals will use this library, but not as intensively because most people have their bespoke libraries that have been tailored specifically for them. How much should the second violins cost? 300€? Or cellos? Another 400€? So basses 300€? That would bring us to a whopping €1400, and I think THAT is far too much, a normal consumer who wants good samples can't afford it without saving for a long time, while we're talking about it: have you ever thought about how much? Money you have to spend to get something halfway decent from every category? For brass let's just take Tom Holkenborg's brass, simply a must have, it costs €750 For the strings we'll just use CSS because it's a classic and you can do almost anything with it. another 400€. With the Woodwinds we just take Berlin Woodwinds, they are very good and have a lot of control over the samples, another €650. Percussion is difficult, I would use Spitfire Percussion, you can use it well even if the close mics are unusable, just way too close to the instrument, sorry but you really screwed up there! As an additional perc I would take Tom Holkenborg's perc, another €300. That brings us to €2500 just for the BASICS. I find it really sad, of course quality costs money, but with so many libraries I wonder who the hell should buy them all.
@LucasBurnMusic

I guess it's 449 euros for this one. How much will this whole orchestra cost? Will it be under 10000 euros or over it? I mean I love that quality of deep sampling but these prices so far are a bit scary. For the owners of Abbey Road One is it obvious that a discount would be much appreciated.

The only thing that was confirmed (that I know of) on a discord server was the fact that next in line will be Cellos. And I think it's safe to assume, given how the current line up has been released, that we will have all the sections released one by one. I think there is a chance of bundling high woodwinds and low woodwinds into two packages, somewhat similarily to the percussion sections. Brass, I think, will be all separate instruments.

Interesting video, thank you. The tightness setting: Please Spitfire, make it with an indicator in millisecond, just to make our life simpler. This sample library is amazing! The level of detail you guys put into this is incredible. I was initially hoping for more trill ranges (at least up to a perfect fifth), maybe some basic legato for the flautando, and definitely for A and B sections to have more realistic sounding divisi. since you already have made the Abbey Road Two: Iconic Strings sample library, I'm not so disappointed that there aren't any soloists in this library. I was also wondering if you guys are going to make Abbey Road Orchestra: Tuned Percussion, since the Abbey Road One sample libraries had a very limited number of tuned percussion instruments. I hope you see this and I also hope that you don't see this as negative criticism. You guys do great work helping people, such as myself, to be able to make their music composing dreams possible and I am very grateful for that. My comment is simply meant to point out some places where many people were hoping for more. You have all done an amazing job and I am sure you have been a great blessing to so many people. here's my thing with nearly all recent spitfire libraries, there's so much harshness in the sounds that if you want a warmer/natural sound (yeah highly subjective) you have to go into and carve out 4-5khz area to get rid of that harsh bite. i get that spitfire has a sound and it's all about being "in your face" constantly (the modern sound) but for a general purpose library like this, less "soundy" and more general purpose. And the samples here are very robotic sounding (the legato), not realistic at all which means just more fiddly and less inspiration. Hard pass on this one.

Hi Paul, between the Abbey Road One and Two, and this new product, and percussion, it looks like you have an almost complete orchestra suite, which sounds utterly epic. Would you guys by any chance be working on some solo instruments for Brass and Woodwinds for Abbey road products? Just curious.Again, ALL of your products are amazing, and these Abbey road products are lush and full of life and character.

It doesn’t matter if I agree or disagree with the trend of hating on SF and their strategy. Only thing that’s for certain is: it’s now impossible to get any clue of what people think about the actual new products that SF release. Everything is basically one giant “where’s the legato you promised for a library I own” comment. This library sounds absolutely stellar btw.
@NotSoSilentPete
@NotSoSilentPete 8 месяцев назад
I don't remember any promises or have any qualms with SF; I own most of their products. I have to say, blindly listening to this library, I'm incredibly unimpressed. Sounds like dozens of other libraries, it sounds VERY artificial, hell, the velocity slur speed was there in 2009 with L.A Scoring Strings. I was expecting 100$ or so price tag. I feel it's a crazy price point for ONE part of ONE section of the orchestra. (IMO, of course)

Yeah but chamber strings you get your 4 sections plus other things. This series is just to pricey for the average person.
@axonathan
@axonathan 8 месяцев назад
Why so regretful though? You purchased a library with full sections that you can use in your works straight away. Otherwise you buy an overpriced single instrument library and be locked into spitfire's new modular payment system and have to wait 3-6 months for each instrument to be released with your wallet out.

Aren't things supposed to improve over time? I did not have for a single moment the feeling of listening to real violins. You should rethink your approach/technology for the other sections otherwise this collection will for sure be a synth fest.

@AlonsoTodo "The only dev doing something something different and doing it incredibly well is Performance Samples, Jasper Blunk sources all the samples from real performances" That's the point. Once you are used to Performance Samples' legato, traditional sampling sounds fake. Moreover, the Abbey Road Violins legato is mediocre at best, very robotic.
@UnofficialButTrue
@UnofficialButTrue 8 месяцев назад
@@unsatisfied321 lol - The legato are most of the time robotic or bumpy (not all the time, but most of the time). Notes are disconnected from each other, and the runs are a joke. If you listened to and worked with real instruments more often you would realize it.

@@unsatisfied321 You know that almost every pro right now is using Pacific as one of their main string libraries, right? Oceania has been also featured almost everywhere for the past few years, as well as a bunch of his other libraries in a more discreet way. But sure, it's only great for beginners and hobbyists.

I understand that this is a business model. But Spitfire is destroying the very personal brand that many of us loved. The AR1 project is not a high-end product, the SSO is an old product. It's a shame that the BBC was thrown in the bin. (I know the studio is closed.) It would be correct if at least they were compensated somehow...

here we go again. fact, i've nothing against this company but their business model is flawed. i have numerous string libraries, but the ones that actually get used in a mix are minimal. spitfire's libraries are rarely used, if at all. that must tell you something. actually i'd like a refund on a few as they are unusable on common styles of music. i've got libraries that are now ten years old and produce better results. j.
