I'm 56 and really have realised how privileged I was to hit the 80's as a teenager and leave the 80's as adult. Wasn't grown up enough to realise how special it was at the time
Just think when I was 18 back in 2000 less than half of my peers actually owned a mobile phone and those that did mostly had a basic function Sony Ericsson????
i renemba this song and video by abc on frida night video's on ch 4 nbc i was in elementary school all through tha 80's loooove 80's safe time great music and t.v show's to
Honestly, the video is campy as heck & the song is beginning to show its age but it's unbeatable for nostalgia value & with a few technical changes with today's technology it could be made into a very acceptable contemporary tune.
One of the biggest hits of the 80s. And it will probably be a hit forever. ABC's debut album is almost 100 percent hits. Incredible. Many bands can only do this with a greatest hits album.
TOTALLY AGREE. It's like God Himself ordained all those talented and creative artists to suddenly start composing and recording all those fabulous songs at the same time. As the saying goes, it was "an embarrassment of riches".
I am an English teacher in Mexico. When my students ask me any question, I will quote Martin Fry in this song: "I don't know the answer to that question. If I knew, I would tell you." :)
With all the crap that is going on in the states right now, I have to listen to the songs I grew up with from the 60s, 70s and 80s to keep me grounded.
The Look of Love by ABC is a perfect example of music in the 80's, whatever you wanted you could find from soft to hard or slow to fast we had it all! If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 90's with all the golden classic movies, music and concerts, YOU were blessed!
90s were pretty magical too for all kinds of music - Electronica/Dance, Trance, Techno etc, Gangsta Rap & Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal and its more underground sub-genres especially Black/Death, R & B, even Country 🎶
Denise White, same here. I miss the '80s too, I was only 8 when this song came out and this music video came out with the song, and I've loved them both ever since.
I`m also 51. Had this song on cassette in my walkman in '82 among Words F.R.David, Abracadabra Steve Miller, I know whats..Frida, Don't go Yazoo, C'mon Eileen Dexys, Avalon Roxy Music....aso on High Life LP. Loooved it so much. Was an epic album. Don' t know if it still exists, sadly.🥲 Haven't seen it 4 a long time.
I remember first time seeing this video on MTV back in the 80s, what an amazing music, video and feeling. MTV actually used to show music videos as intended, not the BS that they show now. What an amazing time period in music and in general, entertainment was the best and memories we built are amazing. Still nostalgic when I hear this music and music from the 80s.
This was the first music video I saw when MTV debuted back in '81. It's kooky, but upbeat and everyone in this video seems to be having a blast. The simplicity of the stage is also refreshing, unlike today's overblown productions.
I'm 24 years old and I've been listening to "old" music for the past 3 years now, and i just find it funny how I'm constantly finding new jewels even though nothing is new. This one is definitely one of my favorite findings!
@@GuyCybershy tru dat. once in a lifetime, pop goes the world, just like heaven or close to me or in between days, buffalo stance, into the groove, don't change, pump up the volume, shock the monkey, more than this, wishing well or sign your name, nite and day (al b. sure} , word up, love my way, love is a stranger, sign of the times, as well as look of love or poison arrow or how to be a millionaire, once in a while 80s radio will throw us a bone but there is so much greatness they hardly play. at least the 80s radio i get. so much cheese. how about silent morning by noel or show me by the cover girls for a change? sometimes i'll hear life in a northern town but not often enough. da da da by trio? never. mary's prayer. mary's prayer! i still believe by the call or blood and roses by the smithereens! i got you by split enz and rhythm of the night by debarge. the freaks come out at night. iv'e never heard the freaks come out at night on 80s radio, not since the 80s, anyway. for shame! i never hear the time. the bird, jungle love, gigolos get lonely too. pebbles, lisa lisa and cult jam featuring full force, the belle of st. mark by sheila e. 80s radio, did you forget the belle of st. mark? when was the last time you played shake you down? do you not have sending all my love by linear or bring on the dancing horses by echo and the bunnymen? yes, there was a band called echo and the bunnymen in the 80s. i love the police and billy idol but enough with every breath you take and white wedding. i also love sweet dreams (are made of this) but play when tomorrow comes or at least there must be an angel (playing with my heart), for the sake of humanity. put a little love in your heart, annie lennox and al green. just play it! anyway, that's my rant. that's my 80s playlist. george michael had other songs than just faith or wake me up before you go-go. a different corner! where did your heart go? so sublime! play kissing a fool, for once. whisper to a scream (birds fly). going back to cali, round the way girl. remember ll cool j, radio? i'ma quit now.
@@sluggboy Sade, Elvis Costello, Haircut 100, The Jam, Madness, Police, Depeche Mode, Culture Club, The Communards, The Clash, Nina Hagen, Toyah, Dexys Midnight Runners… how many parties with my fellows of these days… so nice memories…
"I don't know the answer to that question, if I knew I would tell you". Reminds me little bit of David Bowie's voice. End of the song reminds me a bit of Pet Shop Boys. I love this song, it spreads happiness!
Thanks my friend, it's good we share the same passion for the good music. I wish you a wonderful day. If you like norwgian nature and funny short films, check out my channel. I found Bahrain on the map now. I been in Abu Dhabi on my way to Philippines and back. I traveled with Qatar Airways. It's rated as the best airways in the world. I traveled 5 times to Philippines, cause I have family there. With lot of love from Norway.
He he I was going to comment the exact same thing, then I see I did it 3 months ago :-) This song always makes me happy! Great song, and the video is rather good too. The return to the 80's is like walking back to happiness :-)
We are so lucky to have been a part of the 80’s the best time to be a teen, best music, fashion. My new single out late 2024 features ABC Band drummer Richard Brook. It’s 80’s soulful pop inspired by ABC.
George Shepherd, same here. I miss the '80s too, especially all the fantastic pop music and all the fabulous pop groups including ABC. I'd love to be transported back to this time too, this is the time when such awesome pop groups like Duran Duran and ABC truly ruled.
Think of the '80s and all the songs you've ever listen to and all of your memories, your friend in high school, and everything you've missed as the future and you are going toward it and it hasn't happened yet. and you'll feel much better and much younger.
@@jamesalafayette8255 I'm a Libertarian, with a medical background. Quit letting anybody with a political, financial or control agenda override our own common sense and individual freedoms. Nothing "Trumps" truth and freedom. We shouldn't be treating each other like we all have the plague, it's insane! A virus so deadly that you need a test to see if you have it? Tests with up to an 80% error rate? Masks that are proven to not help stop the spread of viruses. Ask yourself, WHY? LIVE FREE OR DIE! ❤ That's what growing up in the 80's instilled in me. What a wonderful time.
Those in the truth movement today are so fond of saying that this is a greatest time to be alive as we witness the great awakening, but I’d happily trade the rest of my life for a chance to relive the 80s. Now those were truly magical times. Who agrees?
I was 17 when this song was released in 1982. Although the video is silly (most 80s videos were silly), this song was an absolute masterpiece in its day. It's still a work of art. After all these decades, I still listen to ABC. Reminds me so much of my college years, the 1980s.
It's near impossible not to have a smile on your face, as this song is playing. It's one of those great 80's songs, that just sticks with you for some reason. I remember when this first came out. And I still enjoy it today. Great vocals and a wonderful orchestral background. The 80's were such a better time. You just had such optimism for the present, and for the future. It wasn't perfect of course, nothing ever is. But all in all, it was 1000X's better than now for sure.
@@smith0779 That's true of any era. We always think that the past is a bit better than it is now. Unfortunately, it's the truth. For the most part, things were better than they are now. We were more optimistic for our present and the future, than we are today. Hopefully that'll change. Peace to you too.
@@Mr.SLovesTheSacredHeartofJesus Yes I agree!! I am so grateful I wasn't born a 100 years ago and forced to fight in the Great war. Things are getting worse because the majority of people don't care. Take care , continue to be nice and you will have no worries, God bless X
Aw man. This was so perfectly one of those songs that in a second, could launch a bedroom solo, throw down dance routine back in the day..... Turns out, it's *still* one of those songs. Bye!
CrashN2Me1000 With you. Miming word for word with all the appropriate facial expressions at age 44. Changing the 'Martin - one day you'll find true love' to my name. Textbook.
The quintessential early 80s song. Along with "Don't You Want Me," "Tainted Love," "Do You Really want to Hurt Me," "Do You Wanna Hold Me," "Ant Music," etc. etc. etc.
My favourite genre is the 80s, as my Dad used to play it non-stop when I was a kid. Now that I've played it over the years, I've now got my nephew into the 80s. This is how the genre will never die!
Martin was the man back in the day . Great singer with some major swag. That bass hook and strings are pure 80's pop perfection. Love the vocal break with ..they say Marty maybe one day you'll find find true love...ahhh say maybe
How could I not like this? It's generational, Stephen. I preferred loud thumping rock from a powerful home or car stereo that a guy could toke up and bang his Betty to. This sort of music dripping out of my cheap $5 speaker in my 19" Hitachi TV made me think the next generation was "Light in their Sperry Top-Siders."
This video is a masterpiece I am going to see ABC in concert in June 2022 just wish David Palmer, Stephen Singleton and Mark White would rejoin Martin Fry have the original line up again!
I was cleaning out my closet and found my bag of (45) records and this song was among them. Good tunes and great times of the 80’s. Yes I’m old and generation X.
Anyone around at the time will appreciate just how incredible the production was on this masterpiece of an album. Trevor Horn’s genius brought previously unheard layering, depth and clarity to the record which, together with the great work by the amazing Martin Fry and band, makes this an unassailable and unforgettable classic. Just sublime!
