World-champion sculler Charlotte Hollings shows you a 3-point system you can follow to practice your drive then demonstrates how to use your legs and body -- not your shoulders -- to row for power.
Charlotte is a U.S. National Team gold medalist and the co-owner and rowing coach at Calm Waters Rowing, a rowing camp for beginning and experienced rowers alike.
This video is part of the "Introduction to Rowing Technique" series produced by Calm Waters Rowing on their private lake in Lancaster, Virginia.

A couple of mistakes I need to improve on during the drive - I need 1) to keep an horizontal motion 2) keep my arms straight (I draw the elbows too early) as you say “once the legs are down draw the elbows” 3) to avoid sinking the blades too deep (I need to keep the hands low and level). Thanks Charlotte for another useful video. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent clear explanation. I've been saying the same things to the people I coach, but seeing Charlotte put it into practice makes it really easy to understand. There's only one thing (not 3) to remember in this video - horizontal drive leads to an efficient stroke. Good idea to start from frontstops too. I will definitely use this with my beginners - the earlier you teach good technique, the better.

Very cool, thank you. Brand new middle aged rower (57). Level arms, delayed elbows makes full sense. I recognize that piece now when I watch rowing videos'. I'll start with a partial slide.
