I think Don Leo Jonathan was holding back here. I respect Abdullah for being an entertaining character but his skills in the ring were limited. Abdullah knew that DLJ was the better wrestler and should have won - which is why he bowed at the end of the match.
Opinion: Of course, it was a work-- kayfabe --- in those days. They only had need to know how to work in the ring to entertain the fans it was never a true contest some had some real wrestling ability, and some didn't Don Leo Jonathan was known to have some wrestling ability-- but the Butcher had almost none.
I did not know his age. This is the first match i have seen with him in it, going to look for more of his matches. That said, I have watched many of abbys matches and this was more then i usually see from him in the ring. So far i have watched alot of matches a decade or more later from this era.
I collect old wrestling cards from the 1950s on. I just happen to have a Don Leo Johnathon card from 1955. Hes listed as 6foot 8 .I'm in my 60s now and saw him wrestle often in the late 1960s and early 70s. He was billed as the " Giant Killer" and wrestled Andre and Haystacks Callhoon and the like. I 'm not sure if hes still alive but he wrestled well into his 50s......!
The two GREATEST big men in the history of wrestling were Ernie Ladd and Don Leo Jonathan.........I guess you are clueless and don't know history..........Refer to older footage of Don Leo!!!!!! Or are you just kidding/
@@brucesturton8521 Don Leo was one of the greatest EVER.......Along with Ernie Ladd the greatest big men.......Could both do drop kicks.......fly off the top rope, etc........Simply GREAT!!!!!
@@josephine-j1p I totally agree 👍, I liked Ladd and Johnathan, I also liked black jack mulligan. But ,getting back to Johnathan him and big John Quinn, were quite the tag team in Vancouver and were the champions for a while. I don't understand how the other person commented Johnathan is just a jobber, but , people comment not knowing what their talking about.
@@brucesturton8521 Bob Windham aka Blackjack Mulligan....played football briefly for the New York Jets in the old AFL.....A great athlete. Pedro Morale's first challenger at MSG after he took title from Ivan Koloff!!!!
