Engineers are taught industrial engineering/management so they can manage companies. Atleast it's taught in mechanical engineering. World's most versatile rifle AK-47 was built by an engineer. Basically with time, it's actually the engineers who actually started to participate in wars more than ordinary soldiers.

What Abhijit said about simplifying the language is absolutely correct. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar is famous in Bengal for that. He is known as the father of modern Bengali language. He realised that Bengali language is very complicated as at that time it was almost similar to sanskrit and common peasant folks can not internalize such complicacy so he worked on the language to simplify it. Even though not immediately but with time it was his Bangla that slowly became the mainstream.

I think Abhijit is missing a big point, India has sufficient engineers and brain, we just have to provide enough incentives to retain and keep them motivated. Biggest impediment for that is too much govt. bureaucracy and control. Govt needs to restructure all of their research institutes in to public private partnership, with private management with delivery oriented research and tied up compensation and promotion.

Abhijit is basically making an argument that there are serious deficiencies in India's indigenous defense system and we need to create an appropriate eco system essentially developed around super specialty SMEs in this area. He is right from a top down point of view. And his observations on Tejas should be seen in this context. Under Modi, we do observe that there is a reorientation in the approach and IAF has fully owned the program. We cannot abandon LCA and it is coming up as a good fighter with associated weapon system. Secondly, USA is not going to give us any technology and is interested only in selling its wares (with threat of sanctions all the time!). In particular, it is not selling us F35. So we have to depend on our own pubic or private sector or both. As of now, we are NOT preparing to China. Let us first be strong enough to deter China from doing any mischief. And Atmanirbhar Defense production is the way to go.

Had a personal encounter with such an IIT passout. By the way AIM also did say in favour of the engineer talent that gets wasted in india or is imported by US. Tejas mark FOC is for point defense. Mark 1a will go inside pak since it will have ew suite. But it will not get deep into pak due to fuel capacity limitations
EW suite will be upgraded on Tejas mk1 too. And Tejas can go deep inside Islamabad and dominate the skies there. Islamabad is just 220 kms from Kashmir airbases. Tejas has a radius of action of 500 kms with 1 drop tank , 5 Air to Air missiles.

If some professor writes some atrocity literature in a university, it will get a lot more traction in power corridors of Delhi than any add on innovation. Aniketh Rao biggest challenge is discipline and inadequate teaching standards. On every corner there is a private engineering college and these college teachers have no interest in maintaining rigorous engineering curriculum standards. They hire unqualified teachers, which at best graduated from a similar engineering institution. Caste based reservation doesn’t help in this case either. It was sad to see my friends even didn’t know how to write his resume after graduated from a private engineering college.

About education in India.. I also think going to school should not be mandatory, their should be half yearly and yearly exam which we can attend and that way we can pass out school but it should not be mandatory for students to associate them selves with school... Anyway we don't learn anything their we finally go to these tuitions and coaching classes.... What's use of wasting money on schools who only bully students and make their life hell.... I might be wrong.... But really I hate school even after 4 years.... I don't know how people say that they miss their school days... School days are nightmare for me 💔
Abhijeet don't criticize Tejas programme unnecessarily. Today, DRDO developed OBOGS (Onboard Oxygen Generation System) is being further developed for Corona patients. This is a clear example of military technology being used for civil purposes or Spinoff.

Being an engineer myself the initial part of the video was slightly hurtful, however must admit none of us can argue against the importance of numbers as mentioned by Abhijeet for projects like: 1) Arjun 2) Tejas Until there is no economies of scale any weapons manufacturing capability in India will be token at best. Even if we look at projects like Arjun and Tejas - the armed forces could only be pushed by the Government to place token orders (Only exception now being ALH Dhruv). Unfortunately despite the fact that no weapons project can be meaningful without economies of scale the all powerful strangle hold of the arms import lobby can just not be overcome. Hence MKUs and Tonbo imaging(s) of India end up getting orders from the armed forces only after they come to fame after getting their products sold to the western markets 😥.
AIM seems to think that because we don't have the capacity to develop fighter planes, we should not even try --- the govt has to invest knowing that benefits will be seen 20 years down the road when you would have created ancillary industries in the process. Over time if the indigenous content goes from 50% to 80% I will be happy. I am willing to accept that there will be technologies like a jet engine you may not master properly, but thats fine -- but giving the entire business to Lockheed Martin or Dassault is no solution! He is also discounting air tactics, and strike package formations --- no one plane as a group goes into a fight. There's usually a mix of aircrafts that go in, so it will never be cannon fodder kind of setup. I am suspecting AIM gets a lot of money to lob bombs in RU-vid from JAS & LM, which is fine! Tejas is not a bad fighter but it lacks economies of scale. The current IAF CHIEF WHO WAS THE CHIEF TEST PILOT ON THIS PROJECT KNOWS THIS FACT AND HAS BEEN INCREASING FOCUS ON IT.

Second it needs to introspect its outdated laws that are slowly killing the ambition of entrepreneurs who would be assets in any other nation. Third it needs to introspect on the tax liabilities of military hardware manufacturers with respect to their R&D contributions.

Despite being an engineer I don't take offense of AIM's comments. Because a few things he said are true. LCA Tejas is Technically (even from the Engineering perspective) is a point fighter. With Marc 2 variant it's increasingly resemble the Gripen E (I gave you the hint. You get the point). I also agree to the fact that our dependence on PSUs will be fatal and private sector should be given the significant share in defense production.
AVIRAL SINGH there is difference b/w manufacturing and assembly. That was upto India to negotiate terms with Trump administration which was very Pro India. Without developing a private advanced supply chain India will always be dependent on other countries, I have no faith in HAL and other govt. organization to delivery anything. Even after 50 years of fiddling with Tejas it still uses Engine from US. Electronics and controls from Israel. Manufacturing of advanced platform like F-16 would have developed the ecosystem to support future development of other aircrafts.
AVIRAL SINGH there is definitely an issue of transfer of technology, Let’s look at record of HAL to absorb tech transfer, Jaguar, MiG 21, Sukhoi 30 and still minimal result. In India we don’t have the enough band width to absorb all the tech. Having a world class fighter manufacturing in India will provide a strong MSME system, enough trained personnel in core technology, world class training programs for the factory personnel. This is the backbone of any successful industry in a country. No one is suggesting to stop what we are already doing. There is a huge difference b/w R&D and scaling up to produce in profitable quantity. After 45 years of R&D we couldn’t even indigenize the fighter aircraft, even after multiple tech transfer from France and Russia, keep doing the same and expected different result ? We must build a strong private MSME to support Indian aircrafts.
when I was in my final year degree I got a chance to work with a senior who had completed their batchuler's degree and was pursuing masters from my college and mind you that senior was the univercity topper fo their batch (mumbai university) but got that person didnot know shit, I am not joking I completed 90 % of the work and told my senior to to do the rest xous I had my exams round the corner 9 years science I am still wating for that person to finest and that person has become a professor
