Advanced tutorial making skills man. A+. I get it, but props on doing the download, video, step by step in the project, and even a PDF. Crazy. Good job.
One of the few practical and properly helpful tutorials on the tube. I used Live 6 for over 10yrs so Impulse holds a special place in my heart! Thanks for the download.
This is EXACTLY why i love Dubspot im currently doing the Ableton Course with them and learning so much right from the beginning. Encouraging everybody to think outside the box!
This is very useful. I started doing similar by putting one kick sample in simpler and modulating the Transpose value with the MaxForLive LFO. Virtually the same result but a bit quicker to set up.
I was doing something similar this weekend loading some 128's into drum rack cells, this gives me some inspiration to make some random or round-robin type of racks, cheers dubspot!
AWW YISSS!!!! I am forever grateful for your video, my friend! you are in fact the first person that has managed to make some sense to me and clarify some crucial basic knowhow that i apparently did not figure out from the countless other tutorials i tortured myself with in the last 3 days. Thx for the help mate, i will be exploring your other vids and articles soon. Keep up the good work, much appreciated!
A couple of weeks back i was just thinking that it would be great if drum rack possessed some of the same parameters that impulse does and then stumbled across this video today.
One thing I really dislike in electronic music is the absence of variation and velocity in percussion. This is a great tool for instant gratification and variation.
Excellent stuff, have been working on how to humanize drums in Ableton and whilst had worked out how to slightly randomize timing this will let me easily slightly randomize drum hits as well. Only started using Ableton since V8 so haven't really bothered with Impulse up to now but will definitely try this, thank you.
I am really really happy you shared this! this adds the nicest amount of variance in my drum patterns now. This is HUUGGGGEEEEE!!!!! thank you so much again!!!
Great Tutorial! Love technology! Ableton Live 9 is new to me, but I swear it is even easier to use than FL Studio. Thanks for the tutorial, I really enjoyed!
I had the same problem. You actually have to put the RANDOM midi effect on top of the SCALE midi effect in order to randomize the scale. Otherwise the RANDOM will accept nothing as one of its options when randomizing.
You could do better results if you map Max for Live - Expression Controller Velocity for different parameters of Drumrack instruments, for example detune and filter, attack etc
I believe that this can be done using only a random midi effect and the drum rack, there is no need to use scales or impulse... just put the same sample on multiple pads in the drum rack adjust your perimeters and put the random effect before the drum rack. that is my 2 cents
You can fully do that but i guess the difference here is you can use midi pads to drum out a beat with all your elements together quick and easy whereas loading up the drum rack with kicks can be cumbersome when you are limited to a small number of midi pads! But yeah again just my 2, so many ways to skin a cat eh!
I love the tutorial. It will saves me a lot of time just to do minor tweak. I can't put Drum Rack and Impulse together. Also I can't put it before MIDI effects. Please help.
@@victorsaavedra6595 Add Drum Rack to the track and open it's Chain List - add new chain and inside that chain you can add Impulse instr. with all the effects :) (Ableton don't allow you to add more than 1 instrument to the track but this is a workaround for this case) Hope this helps!
Oi, this is a really good idea! I've tried making my own sweet Drumpulse, but I have a problem with some of the hits being mute when I trigger them. Any hints on how to solve this? Thanks a bunch for sharing.
Yes, it's true, but you can extract audio and rearrange it... The thing's not meant to be a just midi clip forever.... I think it's ok if you can put some order in randomization... I like the idea, but let's try it out first... :-) @drincubus74
Is there a way to use Drum rack & Impulse like you've shown but where you can program your keys C,D,E,F,G,A to play each different kick, sample, or snare in impulse with the minor changes as you shown but not randomized... It would be really cool if you could.. Is there a way to allow you to be able to macro each kick to a specific note within impulse..
