would totally love to see more content of that tracks rig in action. The relationship and dynamics between the tracks person and the md, spontaneous moments, looping Awesome job right there!
Any chance you could explain the autotune computer, the routing, how to automate from ableton etc? We already send midi cues to pro presenter but use timecode within pro presenter to control lights and lyric slide changes...but we'd love to automate w/midi autotune changes on 4-6 vocalists changing the keys from song to song instead of using the chromatic setting.
JMIX! Great setup as always. Did you add the mioXL more recently, since the last rundown with Will? This is less computers than before, what happened to the third session view computer for the playback?
Playback is incredible! Big fan of them and the multitracks model. It’s perfect for 90% of churches using tracks. But for now, I definitely could not build/customize the session for a production at this scale in the way that is required.
SMPTE timecode, named after it's creators (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). It's a universal protocol for syncing a variety of video & audio technology & formats together seamlessly. Practically, it's coded noise that Ableton sends to lighting/video/etc to tell them exactly where they are in the show so everything stays together, & in the event of any hiccup, can pick right up where they left off. Less editable or flexible on the fly than MIDI, but generally much more reliable & sturdy in use.
Two questions. 1. Why have a dedicated machine running only the tuning and nothing else? Isn't it overkill to have a Mac Studio just running 8 slots of Autotune? 2. Why MADI and not Dante?
1. It’s a live show so latency is a huge factor in all of our setups! The settings are extremely aggressive to reduce latency to the lowest possible time delay. It’s a beefed up computer running at 64 samples. With 8 instances of auto tune on input monitored tracks I’m sitting at 15-20% peak processing. In terms of stability and performance for a live show it felt necessary to have a dedicated rig. The tracks session is doing enough work on its own already! 2. I have more experience and confidence in MADI setups! Hope that helps!
Brother the band WROTE the songs. Also, pitch correction is industry standard now, it makes for a better experience. It's also hard to stay perfectly in pitch when you're jumping around and singing in your top register for 3 hours every night.
