@@Alckemy I 100% agree with Michal on this one, I feel like this DAW almost is the "hey I kind of want a daw like Reaper, FL, Reaper" and bitwig does just that, I'm gonna try to learn Bitwig cause I love FL-Studio but for years I've wanted to change to something much less cluttered, on a full track my entire screen is covered up on FLstudio with all sorts of plugins, vst's master tracks piano rolls, it just gets so cluttered and there is so many things you need to click through.

@@kudziisuuASMR I gave up on Bitwig after I found it can't really do a feedback loop, I asked around and was told no. I have a project in Ableton I loaded into Bitwig and the routing killed the feedback loop. When I was messing around with Bitwig a couple of weeks back I was close to doing a real feedback loop and a popup box told me it was disabling it because of a feedback loop. I gave up after that.

@@generalawareness101 I’m gonna be honest I have no idea what a feedback loop is, can you explain? Is it a feature that daws have? Just trying to find out if it’s something I actually need or not and may be using without knowing

I've been playing around with Ableton and bitwig. I'll stick with mixcraft pro. If you have not heard of it you might check it out. It's from a company called acoustica from California.

Very cool info here.. so you're saying after using both Logic and ProTools that you like the audio recording functionality of Bitwig? That's the thing I'm most concerned about since it's mostly EDM producers who use it.

@@JayaLove Bitwig has never been a problem with recording audio for me. If I'm tracking complicated sessions, Pro Tools is still the king in my book. But for my personal production projects, I've no complaints at all. At least not with my workflow.

If I'm a noob and mostly working dawless with acoustic instruments, synthesizers, external effects, and multi-track recording mixer, do you think Logic would be easier? I like the appeal of Bitwig as the latest and greatest, clips-based, and the grid seems cool... but maybe it's more than I need? My goal is to complete things rather than endlessly play or be stuck in learning curve land. My music is ambient with sound healing instruments and vocals. I might at some point want to add some mild electronic beats for a juicy downtempo vibe... I'm not there yet though, and also might just collab with a proper producer for that.

@@JayaLove Logic is a great place to start on this as well. I'm not sure I'd say it's easier in every respect, but it's perfectly approachable. And the value is incredible -- a fully-featured DAW with a huge library of instruments/sounds/plugins for less money than so many of the competitors, Bitwig included. Logic was my first love, so I have no problem recommending it. If you'd be interested, I could do a video comparing the two.

In short, M4L is a tool to make synths, effects and tools. The grid is a sound design tool. At least that how I see it. You explained it better though:)

I also think it’s an unfair comparison but just about every time you hear the grid you hear someone mention max. Don’t know about the complex results in seconds, but it’s at least nice that polymer gives you a jump off point and then you can switch to the full grid

@@Alckemy Yeah that why I felt like pointing out what I believe the important distinction between them is, they're just different tools with different uses. But yeah, If by seconds we mean any amount of time under a minute (which I guess is a bit of a stretch I do realize now :p) I can definitely say yes, you can get very complex results in seconds.

yep exactly. If I need a specific m4l tool I will spend time programming it then I can resume making music or whatever. It's not something integrated into your music making workflow. The cool thing however in live is there are many already built m4l patches integrated into live that vastly improve the original software; things like LFO that basically add the modulator function from bitwig (and many other things; the drum synths; the convolution reverb before l11; the granular synth...)

This not solves the fact that you have no option to transpose in semitones, which is the whole point ....or am i missing somethin?

I started trying the demo at version 1 when it was just released. Didnt like it at all. Then heard RU-vidr Mattias Holmgren tell me i should try version 3. Now i bought it & αgot version 4 for free! Never going to look back on my 10 years of struggeling with Ableton. Its like Bitwig thinks exactly like me where things should be etc! 👍

@@tredfxman yeah, Bitwig is just way more intuitive. Ableton is much harder to navigate

You’re right! The ssl was like a British analog compressor used in a lot of uk stuff. The soft clipper works more as a limiter but only a handful of “glue” style comps have the clipping or peak control. Waves for example does not on most of them

Even though you can manipulate the audio clips together in bitwig, they are all actually unique. So you get the best of both worlds:)

I think what the takeaway from this video should be is just being informed on what these are about and what their pros and cons are. Even if you use another daw, it can help you re establish your workflow and feature needs

I like new devices but the workflow enhancements are definitely what makes a daw stand out the most

Try using Cubase. No multi use macros, no FM/PM synthesis or audio rate mod capability at all, no native solution for streamlined multiband crossover splits, a modulation system (MIDI inserts) that hasn’t had an update in well over a decade, Cumbersome routing, plagued with crashes. I guess it’s understandable that steinberg would struggle to keep up with the new kids on the block, considering it was initially coded in the days of Atari STs & Commodore Amigas, but my god it feels dated compared to Bitwig. All Bitwig needs for me to ditch it completely is a less ugly & more functional mixer & ARA2 extension compatibility. I really like the way cubase looks these days. It’s very easy on the eyes, but it’s just way too bloated with endless drop down menus & features most people will never use, at least in the early stages of learning. It’s better now in that regard than it was when I first learned it (SX2), but it seems like steinberg are really trying to put all their eggs into one basket & trying to compete with protools for post & video audio market dominance with nuendo, and as cubase pro is basically nuendo lite, it’s just not advancing in areas that are most important for electronic production or sound design. I’d say it’s almost unbeatable if you’re a mix engineer, or a score composer, but it’s a chore to work with for synthesis based workflows. Projects get way too cluttered with automation lanes & midi tracks just to route something like LFOtool to a filter on diva. In Bitwig I just made a rack of MSEGs using 6 instances of the dc offset to LFOtool to audio rate mod method & just have to place whatever i want to modulate into the preset’s chain. Then there’s also so many damn versions (LE,AI,Elements,Artist,Pro,Nuendo) as well as Cubasis for tablets, that steinberg have to maintain, not to mention wavelab, spectralayers, halion, grooveagent & a million sound libraries. Advancement is slow, you wait a year for updates that always fall short. I think the last thing I got excited about was Bézier curves in automation & midi cc lanes, or in-plugin sidechain source selection. Bitwig is amazing. There’s a solution to everything & you can save anything. When you add the modulation & nesting flexibility & the genius way it hosts VSTs preventing it from pretty much ever crashing. It’s just so far ahead of the curve. 6 months in & im still continually impressed & getting my mind blown on a daily basis haha I also prefer the upgrade system of just rolling out new features as & when they’re ready & putting out multiple betas for everyone with a plan to test. Steinberg are way too secretive with their updates & the silly thing is these days they’re generally just copying studio one anyway lol

Develop on Live, mix on Reaper...but Reaper is no picnic, it takes time.

I love the Madeira palette! The dynamics in bitwig does both upwards and downwards compression where as the compressor only does downwards so you’d have to use that on the fx3, but I think the ott from xfer is a more faithful recreation and is already free. You can hide the device menu in ableton too, there’s a little arrow at the bottom to hide all windows if you want :) Definitely agree on all the other stuff though. The browser in live (even with the extension from Dylan tallchief?) Is still very slow compared to being able to have one always open and then pull another one up from almost anywhere.

what I do is, I created some midi tracks with all the notes in a certain key. whenever I want one I load it in a deactivated track. The in the note editor i turn on layer mode and lock that layer in the backfround.

Glad you checked them both out! With modulators you can set them to sync, on note, or free depending on how you want it to behave, but the midi capture definitely is a cool feature. I’d like midi and automation capture personally. That would be awesome!

resample from master :) its extremely simple to do exactly the same things in ableton .. in bitwig .. and you're completely wrong about the stretching algorithms ableton is HORRIBLE and always has been horrible at stretching.. bitwig actually focussed properly on it and provides many different stretching modes for specific kinds of musical content .. and it works perfectly and extremely transparent ..

@@Alckemy The modulators are pretty insane in bitwig hell of a nifty feature. Yes all DAWS should include capture its a very good tool!

Fair enough, I just prefer the sound of drums and vocals stretched in ableton might not be everyone's cup of tea but, it works for the music I make. I guess that's the beauty of production and techniques; its subjective just like musical taste.

@@junglelove8349 "capture" in bitwig ? are you talking about "capturing" audio ? you simply take Audio from the MASTER channel into an Audio channel and press record.. its identical to "resampling" in ableton

totally understand, this is a great channel to get more familiar with it although I can imagine it being a bit overwhelming depending on the mindset. Ableton is still a fantastic tool that can suit most of your needs, in the meantime, bitwig offers a demo that never expires, you just can't save. Would definitely recommend jumping in and spending a few minutes on it here and there if you're interested without having to invest

i agree with you however reaper is in a league all on its own. Imo reaper is the king of linear DAWS, by sheer customizability. it is probably one of the worst out of the box streamlined options, but there is literally nothing it cant do if you set it up exactly the way you want it and if its not built in someone has used C++, Javascript or ReaScript to make it possible. there are no other DAWS that are as capable. Bitwig and Ableton are comparable to one another, but Reaper honestly has no rivals at all not even pro tools or Cubase can compare. Cockos will de-throne Avid as industry standard within 5-10 years.

@@DeusNosSalvet I definitely agree with you. Reaper can basically be moulded to whatever the user wants. I probably could have been happy sticking with it. However, one benefit of using software that you don't have to customise is that you can collaborate with other musicians (that use the same software) a little easier. I can go to any of my Ableton using friends and jump into their sessions without thinking about what key shortcuts are changed or getting used to their layouts and icons. That isn't something I have been able to say about my reaper friends. Again, I love both and it's just what works for you 🤙

@@javonaziz5323 ahh i never really thought about that, i dont collaborate with any other artists so its never crossed my mind but you bring up a very good point. i use bitwig as a more streamlined approach for sound design and goofing off, i kind of look at like my noise playground and it can open live projects. where as reaper is my bread and butter for tracking live instruments. though i dont collab with other people i record quite a few in my home studio. and of course having everything tweaked down to a fine art makes it so efficient for me. like you said whatever you click with and whichever workflow you prefer at the end of the day is the one you will get the most work done in. :D

I enjoy the current DAW I use(Cakewalk) but for me, the software is so buggy and it’s workflow is really goddamn slow.

@@Alckemy Cheers! I'm trying to figure out if Bitwig is different enough from Live. The whole Session view in Live feels like a substantial part of its workflow and clips are just not something I would use in that way. For context, the reason I switched to Reaper is because I record instruments a lot and therefore work with audio a lot. I just feel like there's a lot more interesting stuff I can do with audio. I don't think I can ever (fully) let go of either Reaper or FL so at this point I'm more looking for something that could complement both.

Oh man, the tooltips are so well-done. I love that I can cursor over something and Bitwig will remind me what the common next-steps are. So many programs that use similar key commands that a little help is outright endearing.

Most important I’m just glad you found what works for you!

there is no "best DAW". of course, some DAWs have more features, which is better, but that doesn't mean it's the best for everyone. every DAW has there differences and that's why different people use different programms, because they're DIFFERENT!

Repitch and slice mode will do that for you! Although the repitch mode changes the timing of the sample.

@@Alckemy i tried it, doesn't quite sound right :( its one of the most integral part of my music production. Redux works sound for now and i can get some edits that are harder to achieve in a non tracker environment

I would definitely like skins too! I don’t see myself working in ableton again primarily unless they also go modular

Skins may look like a little thing, but for someone with visual impairment is absolutely essential. I still use LPX because some collars in BW are invisible to me

I tried reason as well and got the same experience. Hardware is not my thing lol. However, I will say the grid is much easier to work with because you can visually see the routing with very clear colors and there’s no huge vertical scrolling. I’m sure reason has come a long way but I definitely was not ready for it yet

I love the look of Bitwig it was part of my draw to it! I have to been a long-time Abelton user to but when I tried Bitwig I was amazed by how it can be all connected up to make music. And Spectral analizer is a really cool effect I've had fun messing about with it...

@@mesdeep_official You can scale the interface so there's more room by right clicking at the top and selecting decrease GUI scaling. On my Surface Pro 8 it looks razer sharp. I still use Abelton now and then its a awesome DAW. Cheers

Yeah I`m kind same boat with you about UI . Not really about production and technical abilities stand point . But how I can learn by myself and get most of it if I`m confused all the time with those clutter (show me all ) kind of UI . Maybe that`s why I`m also easy to learn Reaper than Studio One

The slice to multi sample isn’t the biggest deal since you have options to choose where and how you slice but if it’s a huuuge granular chunk then you’re at the mercy of rendering times. I kinda don’t do use sampler for that anymore but I’d definitely come back even if bitwig had a basic real time slicer

Most people have moved away from Simpler into a greatly more refined product to do it called Serrato Sample.

@@generalawareness101 simpler is way more powerful than Serrato sampler other than key/bpm detection… which are handy, but easy to figure out

@@generalawareness101 the awesome thing about simpler is that is has the ability to change the warping of the slices as well as different ways to find slices where as serato sample only has a single algorithm on both accounts. I’m essence this has a wider use case for using a sampler beyond just finding chops; it makes it a sound design tool

I’m pretty sure it just goes by what track you arm. Shouldn’t be a problem!

@@Alckemy I tried the demo and it seems that it doesent work like that. If I have two synths on two different tracks and map the cutoff on both synth to one midi controller knob then no matter what track is selected or armed it turns the cutoff always on both synths at the same time. At the bottom of Bitwig is a little knob with the name "Multi" if I turn my midi controller knob. Maybe you have a solution for this. Thanks!

I never tried reaper but I like some of the things about it. The always visible eq thing is really awesome

@@Alckemy you should give it a try, and don't have any assumptions from the default out of the box experience, as you can change pretty much everything about the program by your liking. There's nothing like Reaper out there.

These are important things to consider as the workflow of Ableton becomes a lot different when you add a push. I used one for years but realized that I'm so much faster with the keyboard and mouse. It's odd, because I actually invested in hardware again but for a different purpose. I wonder how things would've turned out if I had realized this method of creation sooner. Even still, for the keyboard/mouse workflow I'm glad I went to bitwig^^

I believe captain chords has it as a vst, too

If you own both I’d say just use the best tool for the job. For me the sacrifices I made leaving ableton outweighed the percs of bitwig but that’s something you have to find for yourself

@@Alckemy Yup absolutely. It's a tuff decision. It's why I watched yours to see if something you say will trigger a spark. Sometimes watching these kinds of videos I learn new things. Anyways appreciate your response. It's I usually tell people as well when I get these questions. I'm a Studio One kind of guy but feeling the lack of a bunch of things in that DAW in terms of creating a different sound. Anyways I'll leave you alone and I'll get back to streaming my frustrations and playing in Ableton and Bitwig lol. Maybe it's not a bad thing I haven't made up my mind yet...🤷🏽‍♂️

@@Alckemy naw I’m nee here. I don’t really have blocks like that. My new issue has been using the right daw that pushes me to think outside the box. I’ve completed many projects and got them placed but then the boredom comes knocking on my door lol. Looking for more which is why I started using Bitwig and or ableton. I just stumbled across your video not too long ago just to see what you had to say. I’m sure your style is different from mines which makes since why you would choice a daw like Bitwig. Im in the urban space and most people tend to use daw like FL studio, Logic, Resaon or Live. I also tend to go against the grain when it comes to this stuff which is why I like Bitwig. Not many people use Bitwig for trap, R&B, or Pop records. Maybe I’ll do more videos on these topics in my lane. Recently I started working on my lofi project in Bitwig and it felt right. I’ll stop rambling right here lol

You can definitely do it in many ways, I just don’t personally like the dynamics or compressor

It’s super similar, just grab the external cv device and search for your instrument, should sync midi clock and all that

Studio one just struck me as trying to appeal to pro tools users. For my production needs, studio one was just too messy and the workflow didn't make sense, but that's just me.

@@Alckemy Yes. I like Bitwig but the upgrade price from 8-track to full version is really too high (for me) to purchase as an additional daw.

@@Alckemy Indeed. Feasible but certainly not to the extent or simplicity of Bitwig. I would upgrade from 8-track if the price wasn't so high, which I can't justyify as an additional daw. Perhaps Presonus will add them since they're doing a big customer survey to decide what functionnalities they'll add first. Though personally I'd rather they implement multichanel, as I think it's the next evolution in music and will change everything from mixing to listener's experience, even with only 2 speakers. It has the potential to be to stereo what stereo was to mono.

@@briancase6180Macros, I really love the modulators and the grid in Bitwig but studio ones macros, arranger track, scene snapshots, drag and drop saving your sounds as music loops or track presets, clip gain envelopes, switching macro toolbars with shortcuts, layering multiple instruments on the same track, drag and drop etc, makes it the fastest most efficient daw ive used except for reaper but it takes a lot of work and studying to setup. Just being able to open your favourite plugins with macros is a huge timesaver especially if you use lemur or something and just have all your macros on your iPad, macros are just a huge time saver in general. I think, if you're not into putting the work into setting up reaper to make it function as you want, s1 is the most efficient daw with the fastest workflow both for production and mixing. but that's just me.

Yeah honestly i prefer Abletons warp modes too i didnt even think about that but Bitwigs arent bad... I feel like Bitwig vs Ableton is like Android vs iPhone... you can really make a case for either

Nah, in terms of organization bitwig is ahead of ableton, you don't need an entirely new lane for a piece of audio and since the audio is the same sound as the midi it is by no means any less organized. Not to mention you can make the arrangement view only display specific group.

You don't have to put audio and midi on the same track. Its optional... Also they both use the same warping framework from elastique zplane audio and I personally think bitwig implemented it better.

I think it’s definitely a contender, actually, integration of first party plugins that interact with the daw can have a lot of benefits, as well as optimization. The other thing is that when you have a toolbox you’ve cultivated sometimes the other free offerings don’t behave or work in the same way. I have a new hammer but it’s not MY hammer. Then there’s the counter to that, using new but similar tools will create new stuff as you get used to it, which I’m all for. But really that’s the point of this video, education so the viewer can make an informed decision:)

Yes, Logic had this forever if not always, and I used to use it all the time when I was using logic. But that was because logic would make comps, which made it really useful. Other daws just put it all on top of each other in a single region when playing in a loop, which makes it kinda useless imo. So even if they implemented it, it would probably suck like most of the other daws compared to logic. The way logic does comping with both midi and audio and the way the scissor tool works with ctrl is the only things I really miss from logic, though I used it for 15 years or so, and the midi event list and the looks. They just made that so much better than any other daw im familiar with.

Copy that, I can see were a producer who is creating music from scratch. Bitwig has more than enough features to get them up & going.

Bitwig has a whole bunch of follow actions (actually more than Ableton), and it can also display the session view top down as Ableton does. However, with M4L and some other scripts you can drill down deeper with Live.

how does bitwigs grid compare to max4live... because just plugin and routing finished devices would not do the job for me. i really need lists, possibility to imply math and created user interfaces.

@@faterix7737 I guess you wouldn't be happy for that with the Grid (which really is what its name is). max4live is basically a programming environment. The Grid is much more similar to a modular synth. The only user interface you get for Grid components is macros - so just knobs with names. Personally I'm a programmer, but I never found the time to get into max4live (instead, I ended up coding modules for Voltage Modular, where I can work with Java). The Grid on the other hand is really quick and easy to create patches with.

@@haslo_ i see. java is included in max , aswell as c++ in some kind of container form. but then, again everytime i'd like to programm sth, it is either not so important that i would figure out how to do it in max, or so important that i'd rather try to write a vst (at which point i am not yet) and stick to c++ (max compiling is not efficient, but possible (for fx maybe. and simple synths)) thx for the honest answer. for me, learning the first 30- 50 Maxobjects was really hard, until you overcome some kind of threshold of knowing your work-arounds.then its really rewarding.. my no 1 for prototyping unusual stuff ( i dont know synth edit tho)

@@faterix7737 it doesn’t compare, they’re meant for different use cases. The grid is a modular environment like vcv rack where max is like semi programming environment to where you can make standalone devices and such. There is logic and math modules but no custom interfaces. It’s really apples to oranges

If you want to load a device from a folder, say from a folder of airwindows plugins, you can just drag them into the bitwig window. You don't need to install them into the VST or VST3 folder.

Duuuude. Alright so when you drag a loop into the timeline or scene mode it automatically matches the tempo. If it’s way too long then set the warp mode to slice and try the onset setting. Or if it’s really long I have key board shortcuts to the scaling modes which is either doubling or halving the loop via warping. 9/10 if I drag a loop in it’s already to go for me though

Also change the stretch mode to ECO pro. It preserves the transients without distorting the sound while you warp it. Just recently added to bitwig sometime this year and OMFG. I was IMPRESSED.

If they are not in and out of a group and can shift click and drag to change the faders. If a track is in a group and one is not you may have to move them around a bit

I’m big on polarity too, I can use it to a degree but it’s not my strongest skill by any means

Right, it’s becoming a more common feature which I hope to see bitwig add. My mpc even has it. Feel free to ask any questions if you’re still considering, I still have to use both up to this point

FL Studio has it with "dump to piano roll" and you can go up to last 10 minutes :)

I used the push 2 for years! It’s great, just not my kind of work preference. Yes it has integration but not as fluid as with ableton. The push was specifically built for ableton

If you can learn cubase you can learn anything lol. I started with 7 and the learning curve hurt my soul. Even still, I do think bitwig caters to sound design the most but anyone can make die given the right mindset

@@Alckemy it’s just all the workflow shortcuts that are still blowing my mind. An example would be that I use addictive drums 2. Cubase let’s you create drum map files once for any drum machine / sampler patch that can be easily recalled. And a MIDI logical editor that you can save presets to recall for randomising / humanising drum hits by timing or velocity in set patterns (eg every hat on an offbeat). At first it appeared the Bitwig drum editor didn’t have drum map functionality, but I recently figured out it works by activating empty pads on drum machine, naming them according to a drum map & saving it as a preset with the VST nested. So last weekend I made a device that loads an Addictive Drums 2 drum map by default, has button modulators for switching snare articulations to a particular articulation, regardless of where the snare note data is drawn in on the piano roll (for both high & low velocity snares independently). So you can just draw all snares & ghost snares on any one articulation but still independently choose different combinations for main & ghost snares with one button. It has a bunch of note routing in the chain before the nested VST, using note fx layer containers & note filters, to group every note that pertains to the same kit piece together for group humanisation with remote controls. Chance is mapped to low velocity kicks & snares & all hat articulations, so you can strip back a busy arrangement when using a ride or conga for example, with one rotary. It’s just amazing. Something I initially though missing in Bitwig, that I now have a solution I can recall as a preset that does the job of not only a cubase drum map, but also about 4 or 5 logical editor presets I would use for humanisation.

Something in the 4.3 beta 5 seems to have broken it though. When using the humaniser note fx to randomise timing, there’s a button that you can press to make it offset timing late, or both early & late from the grid. It obviously has to add some delay compensation, when the +/- button is engaged, but in beta4 the preset allowed for having say everything but your main kicks & snares humanising early or late by a few ms, and turn it off for ghost snares so they only play at late values. In beta 5 unless you have them all engaged or disengaged, the timing sounds like shoes in a drier. Maybe I should report it. I’ll try testing it again but it looks like they’ve broken something in how the delay compensation aligns the humanisation for different notes when they are a mixture of + & +/- timing humanisation

@@Alckemy a funny thing is that whenever I have aired my gripes about cubase falling behind in a big way when it comes to modulation, routing, and other things important for electronic music or sound design, the go to response from fanboys has always been “well Noisia do alright so it can’t be that bad” Well Nik Noisia (a cubase user most of their musical career) now uses Bitwig in his patreon content. *mic drop

Cubase still wins for composing though, ie musical harmony, counterpoint and orchestration

I thought bitwig 4 would bridge the gap between a lot of that but I’m starting to think they’re doing things their own way. Either way for what it is now it’s pretty close to perfect for me

There’s not much really that can’t be done with either some grid wizardry or a little thinking outside the box. I’d like to see a more customisable mixer, with recallable snapshots that save mix state & plugin state to A/B or recall. A legit polyphonic MSEG would be great. A chord track & scale features in the note editor would be nice. And ARA2 extension compatibility for melodyne or spectral editing.

I do own it and it’s definitely an alternative. Just a bit cumbersome to set it up. Wait for a sale! It’s like 13 bucks during the holiday

Let me just say you’ll love bitwig lol. It has a transient shaper that you can put effects into and everything has built in modulators- randomizers included. And so much more

I was wondering the exact same thing. I think jojo1865 is referring to the Transient Loop Mode chooser (little drop down box with arrows) which appears underneath the warp mode algorithm drop down box when when you select Beats mode. There is a little number box ( the transient envelope slider) next to it which applies a little volume envelope to each slice in beats mode and can instantly tighten up messy loops to make them sound super clean. You can read about it in section 9.3.1 of the Ableton Live 11 manual (page 184). Would be super keen to find out if Bitwig has any sort of equivalent to this if anyone knows! @@rxlifter4016 ah, there is beats mode and you have 3 grain size options but not the slider value from 0-100. You also have slice mode. I’d prefer the ableton one but bitwig does the job well

I've been... Not enjoying Ableton for a while now and your channel has reminded me of how much I loved bitwig when I first tried it and really opened my eyes to how far the software and the learning resources have come along since! I'll be upgrading to the latest version tomorrow and plan to make the switch for good, I can't wait to watch every single video you've got man thanks again so much!!

What do you mean by edit? Bitwig has always been able to time stretch/cut/paste/fade/pitch multiple audio clips. There’s a layer editing view as well in Bitwig that lets you work with both

It’s great you tried both! I personally find the workflow for bitwig to be faster, especially with editing and bouncing audio but it’s all about what works for you.

The reason I go into detail about the bitwig stuff like that is because the rest of the things that you say you like to do is almost exactly the same between the two. Really most programs are a lot more similar than they are different. Use what inspires you the most at the end of the day:)

To make one midi track route to multiple instruments >> set all the instruments to receive midi from another single midi track. Make sure to click "in" instead of "auto" . >> U can also just arm them all I guess. is that what u mean ? U can also just use racks...

I tried switching to Live multiple times but I just couldn't get into its workflow. I use Reaper 80% of the time and have done so for the past decade but I still use FL too. I enjoyed using the trial of Reason 10, probably more than that of Studio One (which I almost bought multiple times). Reason is cool but it's too quirky for me. I'm still interested in trying Bitwig.

Give Renoise a go... Renoise + Bitwig are easily my favourite DAWs for electronic music

@@rorz999 I had a look at Renoise and although I think it's awesome, as a dumb pop producer using musical instruments I don't think I'd get much use out of it. Still an awesome DAW though.

It’s almost 1:1 if you can get past effect equivalents. There are a couple effects that are unique to ableton and bitwig but easily replaceable, like compressors, distortion, etc. There’s also the rare case of max 4 live which I mention in the video.

Most bass music is written in Fm as it’s the most prominent bass frequency. Regarding your question you certainly can do that. It’s under right click-reveal file. Over on the right there’s a little page button that will show you all of your samples being used in a project and you can navigate through everything there

​@@Alckemy Thanks for the reply! Yes, I know about "reveal file" but that shows the file in the finder, not the project browser. I wish you could access a sample library folder through right clicking a sound in the arrange view. I use this in Ableton all the time because of the way I organize my samples. In Bitwig, I have to search for the sample, but then I can't expand the folder the it's in. Is there another workaround for this? It's not a dealbreaker for me, but it does slow me down.

yeah as a prev. ableton and now bitwig user i really hope that bitwig devs will expand the grid to be like max4lyf other than that, the stock effects of ableton always had a special place in my heart. really missing erosion and never found a worthy equivalent vst. i think those two, if bitwig gets that sorted... not many arguments to stay in ableton any longer

@@gravity00x erosion is just a ring mod! Just change the input to noise :)

They are almost identical in those department. You might want to watch my video on bitwigs clip launcher as that would be the only big difference
