I've got the child version, different brand. It worked great. Then I got a new microwave, same spec, more efficient, and it burned a hole thru the cotton. It too is square with tiny holes. This one is obviously better, the larger holes will make the difference. Thank you fot sharing this, it's very helpful! Mx

Oh Margaret, how frustrating. You really do have to watch the timing with these in accordance with the wattage of your microwave. And also make sure that you purchase one that fits your oven which was my downfall with the Microfleur 🌺

This is a very informative video, Nina. You appear to have given both presses a fair go and then you shared the results along with your experiences of using them. I sometimes microwave flowers and do it between two regular plain white everyday dinner plates with greaseproof paper padded with kitchen towel (to absorb the moisture) above and below. I've found that that works well too. Many thanks.

Thanks so much, Nina! Very informative. I think I’ll give it a try. I live in the southern US where summers are HOT and HUMID. Humid does not mean rain, though! We’ve finally had some decent rain and our lawns and gardens are looking happier, at least for now.

I’ve had the larger microfluer for years and never had a problem with it. It does rotate in my microwave and I use it in short bursts too. I’ll continue to use it but the new one you have does seem like a better option if anyone is shopping for one now. Thanks for all the info!

I had rigged my own system. Things were going ok but then there was some small flamage and I was turned off from that for awhile now. Definitely keep an eye out-while it was working it was great for some but not all flowers. Just my experience! Edit: The smell also became…biological is the only word I can think of. Thank you so much for reviewing this.
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia 2 года назад
The flowers do smell during the drying process I agree. The drying time also varies depending on the type of plant or flower. Think flowers and petals or leaves will dry much quicker than something with a thick stem and stamen. Always dry in short bursts to avoid burning 🌺🌸

I absolutely love my Microfleur and have had no problems with it at all. You do want to use short bursts as well. I think it may need to rotate and just didn't fit in your microwave well. The Microfleur would fit more flowers at a time as it has more room than the aboofx. I do find it interesting that parts of the aboofx manual is word for word with the Microfleur, for example, the priming instructions.

Hello nina, like in the UK we felt like the flowers in the microwave the last two days. It was really, really hot. People are so inventive, always looking for new ways to do things. It worked well, anyway one of the presses. Since I have no microwave, I will stick to drying in books. Sometimes I open a book and flowers fall out, very vety dry( ha ha)forgotten flowers...More romantic, but the microwave very effective. Love and hugs lenaxxx

If I had the Microfluer I would buy or borrow a drill attachment for drilling holes (they come in various sizes) and drill larger holes in the plastic. Even a drill bit could be used to enlarge the holes with a little sanding to smooth the edges.

May I ask if the flowers discolor over time at all? Especially if you notice white flowers? I wasn’t sure if over time they would turn brown. Flowers do have a tendency to fade over time, but I find when you cover them with tissue paper using watered down glue, it helps a lot. You can also use alcohol markers to colour faded pressed flowers and bring them back to life. Hope this helps 🌸

Hello Nina, what a treat to find your channel, I love it. I have a question about the rest times between the microwave bursts. Do you take the press out of the microwave and open it, or just let it sit on the counter, and for how long do you let it rest before the next burst?
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia Год назад
Hello Donna. Yes, I do. I take the press out for the first couple of bursts just for a couple of seconds and then open it thereafter to check its progress and let the air get to it to avoid it singing. You need to follow the instructions provided carefully to avoid burning your the pads.

@NinaRibenaMixedMedia
@NinaRibenaMixedMedia Год назад
It depends on what you do with them after you’ve dried them. They tend to keep the colour they are left with after the drying process if they are kept out of direct sunlight. I tend to use mine in journals and they keep their colour pretty well. For those that fade, I use alcohol markers to enhance the colour. If you are planning n selling your work, I would recommend using a UV spray fixative. I hope this helps.

I ordered this press and just received this message from them, thought you might be interested. "Aboofx Microwave Flower Press the Operation Manual: We re-tested the heating time of the microwave flower press kit, 15 seconds may be a better choice. Due to the difference in the power of the microwave, reducing heating time can avoid the temperature too high to burn the plants, lining cloth, and the wool felt pad. Note: Lightly moistening the wool pad can be suggested, and you need to control the amount of water, a little will be OK. After putting it in the microwave oven, adjust the power level to the minimum position. After heating for 15 seconds, touch the pressure plate with your hand. If it is not hot, increase the power level to continue heating for 15 seconds and then check; If it is not very hot, continue to increase the power level to gear and heat for 15 seconds; until you touch the pressure plate and feel hot, keep this power level; Use this power to heat for 15 seconds, take out the plants and wait for them to cool before putting them in a microwave oven to heat them, and repeat until the plants are dry. If you have any other questions, please contact us. Thanks Angela Aboofx Customer Service Team"
