Hi, Jolita! This was a very relaxing video! Minimalism for me is to think twice about what you have and about what you buy. In this light I am a minimalist but not a radical one. Take care and enjoy these autumn days!
“We don’t need more storage. We need less stuff.” HALLELUJAH!!! You totally speak my language and I love your clever sense of humor. I’m also a very visual person, so if something is an eyesore, it REALLY gets to me. Life is too short, so I think life should be as beautiful as possible if we can help it. And when your surroundings affect you a ton (as is the case with me), putting in the effort to beautify your surroundings is one method of self-care. It can definitely foster peace. Thank you for this wonderful video. Your philosophy is very fair, realistic, and absolutely relatable. 🌈🌻 (New subscriber from Los Angeles - XO!)
Wonderful video again, Jolita! Thank you for your time and effort you put into each one. My minimalism is similar, once I almost got rid of my books because I thought it would make me more free to have digital copies - they sat in boxes for a week while I was waking up miserable every day and trying to force myself to do it, and then it dawned on me that if I don't want to, nobody can make me, my books make me happy to reread, look at my notes and even decorate my space
Oh my, Dora! I am so happy for you that you kept your books! There is no reason to rid of off something what it makes you YOU. Even for sake of minimalism. Big hug!
I will forever appreciate this channel. You've helped my family a lot, since the pandemic till now your advices and lessons are inspirational and helpful to us. My wife and I have been able to be minimal, conscious in spending, saving and lnve, sting wisely. We have able to earn on a weekly basis and it helps the family a lot. You're such a blessing to this generation. We all love♥️😊. I'm so happy to join you today too.
We seem to think alike about minimalism - more like being enoughmalist! I’m still in the beginning of my journey there, so your videos inspire me and teach me too. Thank you!
Your sense of humor! Love watching your videos. Am glad one of your videos popped up in suggestion else I would never know you. The way you played with different things to create a festive look on your table was amazing. And loved those glass jars with lids and the storage containers. Wish I could get some of those.
Thank you, Sushmita! We shouldn't take us too seriously 😀 Look for the Weck mold jars, I am not sure about availability in your country though. We got them from the local take away restaurant. They selling house made food in those.
Hi Jolita your video explaining minimalism is one of the best on YT. Minimalism is not a religion but like music - everyone has their own tunes and songs they like. My definition of mininalism is ensuring that I dont have too many of the same things and not buying things I dont wear or use everyday. Living in Copenhagen, mininalism is helpful in our tight spaces.
You hooked me with the introduction. I'm new to this and am so glad I found your refreshing sensible yet funny video. I'll be catching up from here until your next one. 👍
Great video! First time I laughed out loud (esp. the 'this one is a minimalist plant' part. You're right, minimalism has become an expensive lifestyle which is far out from what MINIMALISM is all about...
This is the most sensible video on minimalism I’ve seen yet. To me minimalism is only having things that you actually need…and that’s different from person to person. I personally “need” my books (even though I could have them on an e-reader instead, and I also need 10 cushions on my sofa! All for my mental well-being. Thank you for another interesting and entertaining video, I love your humour ☺️💛💐
True, Alys, we are all different and thank goodness! I wouldn't like to live in the world where everyones story is the same. And me too - many cushions and no e-readers even though not once I was stroking them in shop 😀 I love physical books and physical photos as they feel much more real for me 😊 Ah, it's such a good feeling to be imperfect 😀😀🌱
What great points you made. So many times we feel as if there is only one right way to reduce what we own and decorate our homes. I love your outlook and humor, and your style ! I share the same sort of furry seasonal decorations with a long haired cat. She’s very generous with her styling help. 😸 I really enjoy your videos. Beautifully made.
Thank you, Cynthia! We are all different and this is beautiful! Yes, our furry orange thing is preparing for the winter season, lol! Stroke your decorator 🐈 from me!
Jolita, Fun post! I really like your sense of playful humor. I've been a minimalist practically all my life. I'm 72 now. I'm very content with the level things in my life. I really like the aesthetic of the way you live. So very relaxing watching your channel. Cheers
I love your style aesthetic, probably because it is pretty much the same as mine, down to the blue tops. 😏 We live in a large home because we have lots of family and friends to stay. Almost 1/2 of our kitchen cupboards and drawers are empty, as are the wardrobes in the guest bedrooms and the storage in the guest bathrooms. The walk-in wardrobe off our master bedroom is about 2/3 full. I love the feeling of openness and lots of floor space waiting to be filled by our guests. I especially love it once they’ve all left and I have no desire to fill the spaces. It’s funny how people think we are extremely tidy because our home is uncluttered, but it’s because we are lazy and having fewer things means less work. Oh, and our 2 little dogs love having spaces to run and play inside when it’s raining.
Jolita, I like the idea of giving my eyes (and heart and soul) places to pause and rest. For me it's a feeling of contentment, linked to my wider Christian world view of rest.
Hi Jolita. Your videos are joy to watch. They are full of light and your lovely sense of humour. Your grand piano comparison brought a smile to my face. Please keep creating - we love watching your work ⚘!
Beautiful video as always Jolita 😍 Minimalism shouldn’t be a competition, that’s when it gets really annoying! My kind of minimalism is just to live only with what I love or use, a place for everything and everything in it’s place, and also the one in one out rule really helps as well as making a conscious decision about bringing something new into the home. Our lives are all very different and nobody should tell someone else what is or isn’t correct. Warmest wishes from U.K. 💕🇬🇧
It's so true Anna! Everyone's life situation is different and there can't be the only one right way to live. Of course, we have to pay attention to our consumption habits, but there is no need to feel guilty about sometimes braking our own rules. Hugs from LU!
Another sensible approach to minimalism! Helps me to believe that "I can do this"! I, too, have all - year- round fur- decor in abundance!!! I so look forward to your videos- peaceful, inspiring and informative with a wonderful slice of humor. Many thanks~
Of course you can do this! It's not a punishment to live minimal, because you are the one, who the rules. I am sure, your autumn decor is as nice as ours 🐈😀
Hello friend 👋... nice timing....just did a major declutter, since moving(small apartment) I was holding on to things, trying to fill every walls, corners with stuff....what a pain when it came to cleaning ... so lol did a Swedish death clean.... lol without any pain🤣.... Thanks Jolita well done 👏.
Hello, dear Line! Swedish death clean!! 😀 sounds creepy, but sometimes is really necessary! We did it maybe 3 ago, some things are really getting you, so emotionally charged they are... I am so happy for you feel better in your small home. 🏡 ❤ Take care!
Great video, Jolita! Perfect for a Saturday morning. My minimalism style is having what I need and works for me. I live a luxurious life, with only the best and most beautiful things surrounding me. I love elegance and pops of rich colors. 🌷 Thank you for your wonderful video.
I love this video. It's so inspiring. I'm not a minimalist but purging my house allows me to live better. Be more practical. No scare of empty space. I'm gonna take that sentence. Give your eyes a place to rest. No mason jar instead a beautiful drinking glass. I deserve it.
Thank you for this video, Jolita! You are so right: Minimalism is not about having a certain number of things. It is different for everyone. - I guess one could say I have aesthetic minimalism. I hardly have any decoration - which is only because of having cats that would chew up the plants and flowers or through down everything that stands around. Thus I have to put all items away when I go to bed. But I still have some candles around me (on daytime). For the rest, I have the things that I do use and need. Still minimalistic = muuuch less staff than I had before. Like Marie Kondo says: Surround yourself only with the things that spark joy. :)
Thank you! I am sure we would be enjoying our cat even if she would be chewing our flowers and I am also sure, you feel just the same about your cats. They are wonderful in any way 🤗
Mine minimalism is as similar as you one. Moreover, the more time I spend thinking of it the more I appreciate it because itz makes me feel really good and happy when I declutter things and also when I buy new ones because it new thing is aligned with me.
I have just stumbled upon your channel and the beginning of your video really made me laugh. You‘re so right to point out that some minimalists tend to go crazy in the process, and I sometimes (as a moderate minimalist rather like you) have to fight the urge to become “a real minimalist“ (and get that minimalist plant!! 🤪), too. Loved your video!
Thank you, Silvia! I think, the common sense in everything is the answer. Keeping what works for you and eliminating what doesn't work. And if you want a minimalistic plant, go for it, but don't punish yourself. 😀 🌱
Thank you so so much for your inspiration! Found your channel recently, I’m very glad! We are in Canada. Downsizing after 40 plus years married, with 2 adult children, from a big-ish home to a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom plus den apartment. We have been downsizing in preparation and doing good so far, and your videos have been very inspiring, so thank you again!
Jolita, me encanto tu video!.
This was beautiful, insightful and a lovely reminder that we do not need to buy more seasonal decor :) I am not looking well in harsh black either, I am exploring color options but really enjoy black so may only keep 1 dress. However, I do love your wardrobe pieces and the gentle reminder to have 1 in and 1 out of everything in the home :)
True, Lady Marie, we really don't need gazilions of small plastic pumpkins in our homes! 😀 Mee too, I got one little black dress, jeans and pullover for our choir concerts and that's it. Just like you, I like black colour and also the other people wearing black, but I need a tone of makeup wearing it to look ok 😀
I am in the process of decluttering, and I am currently reading a book called «the joy of less» which has the same approach to minimalism as you show in this video. To have enough. I find it a bit overwhelming now in the middle of the process, but I have hope for a calm space in the end, with less stress and more open clean spaces in our home.
Oh, that’s interesting, Elisabeth! Will check whether this book is available here. And am keeping fingers crossed for your decluttering! Can I give you some piece of advice? Take a box and put in it the things that you are maybe not completely sure about. Write the date for review. Because there is always a risk to purge something about you might be regretting. Good luck!
Great video!!!! I‘m like you! And what‘s weird is, that as a male my friends are kind of weird that I‘m a minimalist… they say I‘m more of a essentialist… it‘s because they don‘t understand exactly what minimalism is. And they think essentialism fits better as a term which I don‘t kind of agree…
Dear B M, you are not weird because you are living your life the way it suits you the best. It's weird to expect you to not be you for someone's else convenience or bad conscience. And minimalism has no gender! Either you know how much you need or not. Just remember, you are enough and you are the one who's making your own rules. And that you always have right for corrections and exceptions ;) 🌱
I love this video - especially "storing" things....time to get rid of those Christmas baubles... I've never really enjoyed them anyway. Either I use and can put it away but NO STORED items...thank you!
Thank you, Christina! 😀 Actually I had two months practice to deal with a spoon only when I was in sanatorium in Crimea as a child. For some reason nobody else took it like something unusual. Wouldn't like to repeat it though 😀
Thank you so much, as I am going through my parents belongings and moved in their flat, the amount of old bulky furniture, plates used 1 day a year, memorabilia is overwhelming. Your suggestions makes perfect sense and I feel I can now move towards the de cluttering and letting go much easier. 🙏
This is the way I lived until I met my husband. He likes a lot of stuff lol. I recently dwindled down my clothing. I sew buttons all of the time. I'm going to get rid of much more. I always yell about having too many dishes and glasses lol. I love your minimalism! Blue is good on you.
I enjoy watching your channel so much.....relaxing and simple things in life are a plus in this world so full of so much! I appreciated you could pick your own flowers and then make a donation, that is so cool! Wish we had this here. Never thought about the perfect number. 6-8 would be mine. Now I have to figure out if I have too much on one thing. Thanks for sharing Jolita, love that name!
Thank you too, dear Carmen! We are lucky to have this flower field just outside our town and almost every time we are passing by, there's somebody picking the flowers. And I even have no idea, who's the owner...
I like the mug-without-handle idea and the weck-jars (for the lids). For the rest, I would say, I do quite the same. And btw. *I* look terrible in white (even way more, than you do in black!), and my No.1 go-for-colour is blue too! (As you add offwhite and rosé, I add black & green. 😅)
Hi loved this video, so glad it popped up for me to check out. Working my through what minimalism is for me and sincerely finding joy in less is more yet love the items I keep. Definitely a journey but enjoying the process and agree with you "we don't need more storage we need less stuff" I now have empty spaces, drawers and no longer feel I need to fill them. I love Spring when I can buy tulips ♥
Wow! I loved your take on minimalism. Yes, it's not a religion. The video was so humorous (with a strong message, of course) , made me laugh a lot...thank you 💕
Well said, Grace! I am also making revisions of our belongings quite often. Except for the books, I love to have them all and therefore not digging there too much, lol!
Jolita, where can we find the plastic storage containers that you show in this video? Many thanks in advance! Also, have you thought of creating a store in Amazon with your recommendations? It could be a great way to keep connecting with your community too.
Thank you for your tips, Remi! I am tempting to create my Amazon shop, just I am not sure whether is fair to have on it products which I didn't buy from them (the most of our belongings we got in physical shops, also the boxes you are asking about we bought in person, but I will link them for you 😊). 1L box, Sunware Q line: 6x SUNWARE Q in Box - 1 Litre - 200 x 150 x 60 mm - Clear/Silver www.amazon.de/dp/B00VV3HKEO/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WBMG43VS0KAG49A506E0 2 L: 6x SUNWARE Q Box - 2 Litre - 200 x 150 x 100 mm - Clear/Silver www.amazon.de/dp/B00VV2UYJS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_2CB0Z6KQZZYPZS1HJER9 3 L: www.amazon.de/dp/B00P7VVLAA/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_99Z1MV4KT9Z706PRJ1K0 12 piece set: Storage boxes 12-Piece 4 Each of the Following: 1 - 2 - and 3 Litre Boxes, 1 Litre: 20 x 15 x 6 cm / 2 Litre: 20 x 15 x 10 cm / 3 Litre: 20 x 15 x 14 cm www.amazon.de/dp/B00EDISFB6/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_7B0GYTC3NPR7JGMJ3PQG
It"s a bit off topic, but I used to hate as a child that all our plates, mugs and glasses were not a full set. I envied all other families for it. We had a bunch of used stuff handed down to us from grandparents, or we took their stuff when they died bcs we did not want to throw it out. But we never had a full set of anything. I hated it. But now, as an adult, I got handed down a lot of things from my parents and I have memories connected to each mug and plate. Every mug has a character and there is only one plate left from the set that we ate from when I was really young. So now I actually enjoy this eclecticism, and frankly, I never get so many guests that I would need to present a magazine-worthy tablescape anyway. Even if I need something, I go to a local charity shop and buy a retro looking thing rather than to buy it new, bcs I feel like I am cherishing some other family's memory this way. And why buy new if I can use an already used one? I know this is not really "minimalism", because I am not a minimalist, but I still enjoy things that correlate with reusing, recycling and stuff.
I get your point, Sjudit84! It's nice to be surrounded by the things that have such a strong vibe! Minimalism is very personal game, and my rules are simple - keeping what works and eliminating what doesn't work 🌱 Sorry for late response, by some reason your comments falling into the ones held for review. 🤫
Love this video!! I strive to live just like you. I take genuine pleasure in having less and dealing with fewer things that stress me out. My husband and I have two cats and I see you have one. How do you handle the cat hair? We have gadgets that address it, but not great. I'd like to pass them along for ONE that actually works. Would love your thoughts. Thank you for your video!!
Oh, cats are lovely despite the hair all over the places! 🤩 We are doing nothing very extraordinary, Lindsey - got a brush with the bented bristles for grooming and then just vaccum cleaner for the floor and lint roller or rubber glows for the trows. Shaking them regularly in the fresh air and washing time at the time in washing mashine.

It's a Belgian producer Eternum and the set is called Eternum Signature Alinea. Here is the link to producers page, where you also can find their retailers. Not sure if it's sold ouside the Europe, but who knows: www.eternum.com/en/produits/notre-gamme/couverts/signature/alinea
Hello Adri, our recent mugs we bought when we were on holidays in Netherlands, the shop is called Bomont. I went briefly through their online shop and unfortunately they seem do not have our mugs in there. But here is the site: www.bomont.nl/zoek/?q=Kopje I also love the ones from Ittala, those were our very first handless mugs: www.amazon.de/dp/B06Y2FJ8JX/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_6BNC1V3NCJ985CBXFEAJ
I'm watching this again a year later. Can I ask about your plastic and glass containers that use the same size lids? Can you share the brand please? Thank you!
Hi Liesl! The plastic containers are from Sunware: 6x SUNWARE Q in Box - 1 Litre - 200 x 150 x 60 mm - Clear/Silver amzn.eu/d/dtrBiRU And the glass ones are Weck: Preserving Jars Set of 12, 0.5 Litres Including Preserving Rings, Clips and Glass Lids amzn.eu/d/92Jqt9b
I bought those mugs in physical shop when we were on holidays, not sure if they have them in their online shop: www.bomont.nl/ But I have seen various handless mugs on Amazon. 🙂
