My wife of fifty years passed away in Aug and 'Somewhere In Time' was a film we watched over and over. We just loved it. All I can think about is going back. Going back fifty years and meeting her all over again and reliving such a wonderful life. If only I could. Can you imagine? I believe I'll see her again somewhere in time.
We all want to back my friend. It's a comfort thought that we all desire. Relive the past, maybe change how things panned out , correct our mistakes. You get to a certain age when you look back more than forward, nostalgia I believe is the correct term. Anyway we can all but dream.....
You’ll see her again. Just not likely to be in time as we know it. Maybe the great beyond will be like another good move based on a different novel by Richard Matheson: What Dreams May Come. It starred Robin Williams and was very strange and wonderful and weird and heartbreaking.
You will see her again. My mom's favourite movie was this one. A lot because of the music. I played this at her funeral in Feb 2020. John Barry wrote this music in memory of his parents after they passed away.
My all time favorite movie. One of a kind. Almost perfect., The casts, the storyline, the soundtrack. I can never forget this movie. It's almost magical
Apparently when it was released there was an actors strike so promoting the film didn’t happen as planned. It was not a box office flop, it was just poor timing of the release. I was lucky enough to see on the big screen. 😍
Oh my good Lord. I rarely comment on how fantastic-looking a star is but Christopher Reeves was truly beautiful, inside and out. What a loss that he's no longer with us.
Yes. As was Patrick Swayze, both born in 1952. Chris died in 2004, Patrick in 2009. I was born in 1950, I still think of these beautiful men in their youthful prime.
Both Reeves and Seymour were Stellar in this film. I know they're both professionals but darn they did a good job. I want to say it's very similar to Titanic in the romantic appeal and leaves you wanting it to go on , but they did such a good job they did not need to use 3 hours the produce that warm fuzzy feeling. I wanted them to be together forever, and then that Penny appeared in his hand and I almost cried.
He will always be Superman. Others will come....but the 70s a 80s were truly amazing. Green screen a wires...no CGI....even some movies today look fake...watching Superman fly....looked more real than real !
No Idea why my soul has fallen in love and stayed in love with this movie for all these years, but it has. I remember forty years ago having to ask the video store to order the movie in for me so I could buy it for my home library. When I got a chance to buy the music in CD, I did that too. I still can’t listen to the music without crying; it moves me that much. Still remains my all time favourite movie.
Same story for me as well. VHS, Dvd, cassette tape, CD, ITunes. Seeing it so many times over all these decades kinda makes me feel like I’m apart of the “time travel” story.
I'm sure there are many people that never saw it. It was a movie that my 2 sons in high school at the time, and of course my 2 younger daughters, and my husband and I found it the best.
it was my family's favorite including my sons who were in high school at the time. It is not like any other.movie, and the movie's soundtrack is so beautiful. .
This was one of the only movies that my husband and I both loved! We watched it frequently together! He has been gone for 3 years now after 38 years together! I miss him every day and the movie and the music always make me cry 😢 I know I’ll see him again one day💕🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰
Well done Jane for convincing John Barry. The music and movie go hand in hand. yep. another man who admits to loving this movie. quietly i would say there are many who keep their love of the movie secret. A timeless classic for me.
I hired this beautiful film on video from a little shop in London's East End in the 1980's and watched it with my mum. We were both in tears at the end of the story and I went out and bought the soundtrack LP. "Somewhere in Time" became "our" movie and we watched it countless times. My dear mum has passed and this film holds a special place in my heart because of the memories of her.I still get emotional when Richard breaks down after losing the love of his life. Chris was devastating in that scene and Jane was so believable in her role. Wonderful chemistry between the actors. Its a real classic romantic film.
They were really in love on the set as was just revealed recently by Jane. Then Christopher’s GF showed up and let him know she was pregnant with his child & they lost their chance ….. but remained very close 😵💫
This is my favourite movie. I watched it last week again and as always cried the whole time it was showing and afterwards. The music and film are haunting and Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour are perfect for the parts. Jane has never looked so beautiful and, of course, Christopher is a fine looking man. Every time I watch him I cry because of what happened to him. Life can be so cruel.
I am very much the same way. I cry throughout the movie and afterwards. It tugs on to heart strings. Because it is so special. This is my favorite movie of my generation. I love it so very much.
My beautiful bride (nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage) is dying and so am I (we are nearly 80). Somewhere in Time is our favorite movie. We have seen it over and over. It comforts us.
A timeless film that is haunting, romantic, sad yet bewitching. Having seen the photo of Maude Adams I could go back in time to meet her. Enchanting eyes...
Hi from the UK i'm writing this in 2022....re-visiting this beautiful GEM of a movie so moving and the music seems" other worldly"...how much happiness and emotion this film has given to millions of people around the world!...thank you so much 🇦🇽🌹...from an INCURABLE ROMANTIC
Sharon here: I don't know if it would be possible for you to travel to Mackinac Island. Staying at the Grand Hotel is nothing short of magical. Seeing the movie at the hotel is the ultimate.
Hi Catherine! From one incurable romantic to another, have you ever watched "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", 1947, staring Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison? The ending is incredibly similar.❤😢
I have to stop the movie just before he finds the penny in his pocket. I can't deal with the sadness! Love this movie so much! I'm hopeless. I start to cry the moment the music starts.
A friend and I stood at the mall and watched Somewhere in Time in it's entirety through the window of a shop that sold TVs. So nice of them to do that for two starstruck gals who fell in love with this movie! Still love it - :-)
OMG oh, you telling me they forced you to cry in a public place. At least I shed my tears in the decency of my own living room. It's a really good movie
This movie is truly an all-time great and will survive forever. There will always be Somewhere In Time. One of the greatest moments in sublime cinema history
Wow - my parents took me (as a snotty nosed kid in the 5th grade) to this movie in the theaters waaaay back in 1980 or 81 - and it became my mothers' and my favorite movie. Even at that age, I could recognize something fabulous, and this movie was IT. When I got older, I went to Mackinac Island and the Grand Hotel during one of the their period weekends and it happened to be the weekend of their 130th Anniversary; I have never forgotten that weekend. Getting more mature (I hate older) it drove my whole life - I purchased a house built in the period and restored it; it's now registered as a national historic house. I don't obsess over the film.. while good, it is a love story and something you have to be in the mood to watch. However, as years go by, every once in a while I run across it in my collection and it's like an old friend that reminds me who I am and why I am where I am. It also reminds me that love can be found in many places you may not expect - even those man years apart. Thanks humbi - you did good! [edited for grammar]
Christopher Reeve will live on forever, for his extreme dedication to the acting industry and his razor sharp wit. I know the other cast members will leave their legacy too, but Reeve is my inspiration and his fearless pursuit of life is something I hope to mirror in my life.
One of the most romantic films of all time.....❤💏🕰🎬🎼 Somewhere In Time. Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour, they truly made this film moving with their on screen chemistry. When I think of this film a poem by the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, published in 1850 comes to mind......I quote " I hold it true, whate'er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most, 'Tis better to have loved and lost. Than never to have loved at all. I truly wish they had made more films like this for the romantics out here!! ❤😊🎻🎬🎼📜✍
@@charliereed9925 that's the feel, it's like you want them to be together forever, but then it breaks your heart, but then you see them reunite... That warm fuzzy feeling... But I think they did it better with Somewhere in Time, like serious Titanic needed 3 hours to do the same.
@@gregledbetter5942 Indeed! Titanic was just entertaining cause special effects and got lucky as could have been a flop. SIT has more depth in the story line and its great that through time people have discovered this Gem ;-)
My two sons were 11 and 13 at the time SOMEWHERE IN TIME came out in theaters. As a family of four...we saw the movie.Sons were captured by the appearance of Christopher Reeves as Superman out of costume. One son is a musician and appreciated the soundtrack more than his brother ..I thought. Both sons love the movie as much as the soundtrack.....so much so that they know the name Rachmaninoff and recall specific scenes when we talk about some of our favorite movies. Both sons are in their fifties, now, and still say S.I.T. is a favorite movie of theirs. As an incurable romantic...it is my favorite also.❤
This was a great movie. I remember the 1st time I watched it. I stumbled across it, pushing buttons looking for a good movie. I was captivated, from beginning to end. I've watched it many times since. It has a miracle feeling that never fades.
There's never been another film like this or ever will be. _Somewhere in Time_ ranks up there as one of the *Greatest* films ever made like _Gone with the Wind_ or _Titanic._
I am 51! This film is my my life! My love and my whole heart! Superman. Eye of the tiger. Eating cherries with Chris! sound of music! the whole bag! I am still in love with Jane! xxx
Watching this clip, reading the comments, and remembering the movie and this amazing musical score brings tears 😢. It touches your soul in a way that each one of can relate on some level. The actors were perfect and the music was so romantic and profound. It is one of those movies that will be in our hearts forever ♥ ❤ 💓.
I just discovered this movie today. Fri,8th sept 2023. This is my all time favorite movie. Everything about it melts my heart. Thank you to all the movie cast and crew 🙏
I'm an old man now. I've kicked sand in the jambs of death's door so many times I probably cannot continue doing so much longer. That said, probably a half-dozen events in my life have caused me to pause - and reflect on life. One such event was the first (and thousands of times since) that I've watched this movie. What's ironic, I, too, have lived an experience that mirrors the roles of Richard Collier and Elise McKenna in this movie, although it wasn't to occur until 2013. In my case, it's the life of Ladell Allen Bonner (1894-1949) who, in 2013, haunted her parents home, Allen House in Monticello, Arkansas. I would come to learn that Ladell, in spirit, watched over my life much life Elise watched over Richards, until, in 2013 I conducted a paranormal investigation of Allen House. During that investigation, she and I came together when she (in spirit) physically touched me - and a great deal more. After the investigation she compelled me to write her life story. I'd never written anything in my life, yet she compelled - badgered me - until I wrote my first book. Yes, it was a literary disaster, but compelled me to continue writing. I finally wrote the book she wanted written after several attempts. It's titled, "My Voice." I've lived all the scenes of this movie in my life and now I await the final scene... rising from the bed when Richard took Elise's arm and they faded into the distance, except it'll be Ladell greeting me from the other side as I leave these bonds of physical life and return to the afterlife... for she and I have been together before - and will be together again. I've not written this in an attempt to sell my book - If I knew people wanted to read it I would give it away. It's something so much more than life, but then, anyone who's been touched by this movie as I've been moved - will understand. There is a light at the end of the tunnel - and it's not a train.... We have a beach cottage in Mackinaw City... We visit the Island often.... It never gets old🥰❣️ The spelling of the Island is Mackinac.. pronounced the same, just different spelling .... I hope you get to visit one day!!!
Christopher Reeve what a great guy. So very sad the way his life was changed so dramatically by a fall from a horse. You will always be remembered for your acting ability, this film and you'll remain forever a 'Superman'.
My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary years ago at the grand Hotel, somewhere in Time weekend. I got to meet Albert and it was such a magical weekend
I can relate so much to everything that was said in this video. I fell in love with Somewhere in Time in the early 80's. It is my all time favorite movie. I can't count how many times I told someone it was my favorite movie only to have them scream, "MINE TOO!" I am so happy that these amazing talents came together to produce this masterpiece. Everything from the casting to the setting to the screenplay to the music score is PERFECT.
One of my absolute favorite movies Somewhere In Time, the spirit is just alive and timeless I can feel the passion the want and love. I love and adore Christopher Reeves so much. And Jane Seymour is just beautiful. I can watch it over and over.
I have a book, CD, DVD, and Blueray of Somewhere In Time... i played it wonderfully in the piano... oh,... i love the movie.. it's my favorite of all time.
Wow I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE ☝️ WHO ADORE THE MOVIE .... SOMEWHERE IN TIME IS LIKE MY PERSONAL MUSIC ... it’s in my heart ❤️ forever I played on piano 🎹 And even played it on violin 🎻 That masterpiece is my Mecca ❤️
You can thank John Barry for the score. "Out Of Africa" and "Dances With Wolves" were his work as well. Listen to the love scene music from "Dances With Wolves". It's the same tender, yet powerful emotion that the score of "Somewhere In Time" evokes. The man was a genius. My all time favorite film composer. In a class of his own!❤😢
I’m 75 years old, I saw this movie when it first came out on video in Australia, and it was love at first sight. It’s still my favorite movie ever made. I never ever get tired of watching this beautiful film. Thank you for making our lives so much better.
I walked down the aisle with my Dad to this song when I got married outside in a gazebo. I absolutely love this movie, the actors and of course the beautiful music.
The first bars of that music turns me to jelly. ❤ Christopher is so handsome, and Jane is so beautiful; they were made for this movie. I hope nobody ever tries to remake it.
Being male, Somewhere In Time is my favourite movie. I think it speaks to men because Elise represents the type of woman every man dreams of falling in love with. Her charm, strength, and femininity, and her sense of fun.
I was born in Taiwan, first saw this film at age 13, couldn't believe the ending and watched twice for confirmation. I had no idea where the hotel was, how to get there; but I made a promise that I would visit that hotel someday, somehow. At age 28 I went to Michigan for my study, one day joined my classmates' ride for a get-away, and when I saw the hotel on the island, I was totally speechless! Later I got married and lived in Michigan until my husband passed away, we visited the hotel several times for a wonderful summer get-away. About 10 years ago after Christopher Reeve passed away, his photo was on the highway, remembered as a true hero and for his courage of fighting for his mobility. I believe the reason people are in love with this film is because we all desire a simple lifestyle, we all want to find a true love in life and we all desire to be found by the true love......
Sharon here: On October 4th, 1980 my husband and I were looking for something to do to celebrate our 11th anniversary. This is the date that first introduced us to Somewhere in Time. It would be nineteen more years before we'd be able to stay at the Grand Hotel and relive the movie. It was then, and will always be, our favorite movie of all time ~
I have loved this movie from the very first time that I viewed it, some 25+ years ago, to today. It is a love story unlike any other and it makes me weep every time I watch it. The music is masterful and the essence of the movie. Kudos!!
I love this movie, a very beautiful movie. The actress smile is beautiful and the actor, the guy who played superman is an amazing actor, love all his movies! I watched this more than ....I can't even remember how many times. And I also bought a DVD to keep it. Love this movie!
'Come back to me' were the first words Elise said to Richard. I've watched this film so many times. 'Come back to me Diane' if not in this life but in another. To learn you had passed away broke my heart and then to learn from Diane's daughter that she had known about me all of her life and that her mum had told her on so many occasions that she should have married and that her heart stayed with me was just the hardest and saddest thing to hear.😢 Diane S. My first and last love. I pray every day now that we will be reunited maybe in another time. So come back to me Diane I'll be waiting.
You never know. It could be done well. I think "I Am Legend" was better than the original, but that's my opinion. I would say it was my opinion even if I'd seen the original (The Omega Man) because that was the title of the novel both movies were based on. I appreciate those in the moviemaking business that try their best to be as "faithful" as possible to the books their movies are based on. This is why I think the movie has become timeless... because they stuck to the spirit of the book and because the author of the book wrote the script himself... and those involved thought it was a wonderful story and were passionate about making it.
@@jchinckley you have some really good points here... years ago I really enjoyed the film Total Recall, and then I got the Philip K dick book okay.. And I'm like WTF. Sure it's a short story but how did they make the movie better than the book... As well years ago I steam a film titled the Omega Man... It was okay but did not keep my attention... You're telling me I am Legend is better I never read the book.
Loved this movie. The purest love which can never happen. When I had a huge stroke of prosperity, I bought a music box exactly like the Grand Hotel music box in the movie. I treasure it.
This is the best movie l have ever watched. It needs to be on a streaming site. I would watch it every week. Great movie needs to be shared with the world again . Thanking for creating such a feel good movie of deep romance
It is such a wonderful film and story. I loved everything about it...the setting, the fashion, the characters, etc. Not sure I would even have the right words to describe how much it touched my heart and soul.
I love Somewhere in Time. It's one of my favorite movies that I like to watch over again. It makes me cry, but it's worth it. The music gets to me, too.
I remember and i was in college 89 and my youngest sister told me about this movie shown on tv. i watched it and ever since i thought this is one of the greatest love story movie ever made. unforgetable movie.
I have to tell you, in 1980 I was at the theater and saw the poster Somewhere in Time. I never did see the movie until one month ago and cannot believe forty years have passed. Within the past month I must have viewed it ten times and am still in awe. Thank you for making this video. You did a great job on it! This weekend, guess what will be playing on my TV?
I bet after seeing it at home you're kicking yourself for not seeing it in the theater while it was playing. I just seen it for the first time and darn it's good
Absolutely 💯 Funny thing ... I wrote it off somewhat, when I first saw it taking an older relative ..yet seeing it again under similar circumstances it began to draw me into escapism .... to the point where I've watched it over the years in good times and bad ... almost, making believe that such things are possible ... crazy as it sounds for a guy of 70 now ...isn't that the epitome of great entertainment .... thanks!
If you've ever wondered if you are a romantic this movie will answer that question. I really felt awful for Richard when he stumbled on to that penny and went back to his own time and could not get back to Elise. He grieved himself to death from a broken heart. A sad and poignant movie with a haunting musical score. Somewhere in Time was destined to be a classic.
This movie is my all-time favorite! The first time I saw it I was mesmerized and left the theater almost in a trance. The music touches my heart and soul. Thank Heaven I can watch it any time I want and can enjoy such a touching, beautiful piece of art!
Beautiful movie. Beautiful leading lady and leading man. One of a very few movies in which I've been totally immersed right up to the last scene. I have the DVD as well as the score. watch the movie every few months or so. ❤❤❤
