As humans were colonizing space, they were under attack by a technologically superior alien race called the outriders, a race in desperate need for energy since their resources were depleting fast. In response to the situation, a prototype ship was created named Ramrod in order to fend off the attacks and it successfully defeated the outriders where needed.
So a plan was devised from the outrider leaders in order to gain the upper hand. The commander of the human cavalry command was abducted, placed into the alien home planet and an escape was orchestrated in order to meet the peaceful citizens of the planet in an attempt to make the commander believe that peace can be achieved.
After a successful rescue by Saber Rider, the two sides were negotiating truce, but their demands were to disarm their weapons, Ramrod included on the (correct) assumption that this weapon can be used for attack purposes as well. So after weapons were indeed destroyed from both sides and peace was finally within reach, the outriders initiated an all out attack on the human settlements with unregistered weaponry without fear resulting in a true massacre.
In response, the commander revealed the existence of Ramrod II, a top secret project that began before the truce and no one knew about it. With it, the war could continue with all out attacks on their home planet.
However they were in for a treat. As they were approaching their home planet, they could detect a large energy source, proving that the invaders were lying from the beginning. The invaders were also busy developing a death star class weapon, the Cobalt cannon, capable of annihilating entire planets and it took a near suicidal mission, with Ramrod II entering the very barrel of the planetary cannon, in order to incapacitate it. So the fallacy is simple. When you got both sides making weapons themselves (and NOT buying from other nations) there is NO way to make sure you know how many each side has. When weapons are designed for defensive purposes but can ALSO be used for attacking the enemy (ie the S3000 missiles) then things can get a lot more complex and of course they are the first to go when working on a peace treaty.
While I don't necessarily agree on this one entirely, dissecting each move shown can be quite interesting and overall, it is quite an interesting topic for a kids series. [series is copyrighted, clip used under fair use]
