Even though it’s fictional, the fact that Shep, out of shape and hasn’t played in years took Kyle, a 4 or 5 star recruit apart with little effort shows how good shep was.
Shep was probably NBA talent, at least he was portrayed that way. Was on a different level than any other player in the movie. Dude had to have scored 40 points in one quarter lol
I don't think we should say he was out of shape. There's scenes in the movie where we see Shep still practicing his game. Plus, he's pretty lean and toned.
@@FallouFitness_NattyEdition i didn’t mean physical shape, I meant basketball shape. It takes a lot of scrimmages to get into hoops shape but I agree he wasn’t in terrible shape as he showed in the game.
@Magic Man lol that's very true my guy. I miss being in basketball shape. I remember being able to run 10 games back to back in high school and not even think twice about it. Now, I play one game and I'm done 😅😅😅. Getting old sucks

"You owe yourself and the ones that cared enough to get you here". Such a great quote. Sheppard knows Kyle is about to blow his shot just like he did when Nutso died. Sheppard was an incredible talent, prob could of made it to the NBA and taken Birdie and his family out of the hood. There are some talented kids out there that need a father or a man like Tom Sheppard to show them that no matter how good you are nothing matters but yourself and your loved ones. One of my all time.favorite movies.
@@wallacegentry4085 those are not really life changing salaries. Some of us have those people in our families. And some of them are still struggling. Rappers and ball players can support like 10-20 people. Huge difference. That’s why they focus on that

Even tho they didn’t see eye to eye for majority of the movie this scene right here saved Kyle life. Shep did the right thing by schooling and giving him words of wisdom.
He didnt wanna really play ball with him..... he just wanted to put him in his place coz he got fed up of his attitude... Kyle was a good player but Thomas shep was black belt.. & kyle knew that....from when he was in the car with the other two guys... & they was dissin him coz he was practicing without a ball...
I agree with all of that. Kyle, Birdy, and that other dude were bullying Flip. But Shepherd was sick of Kyles overagressive, and self-righteous attitude.
I think what I love the most about this scene is that it highlights the gap between amateur and professional. Shep is presumed to be former NBA material, and Kyle is presumably the best high schooler in the nation or at least one of them. Even though it's presumed to be years since Shep played, he still demolished Kyle like it was nothing. It goes to show that even if someone on a pro level is retired, they can still demolish elite talent on a lower level. Just goes to show how much the gap is widened when it comes to professional sports.
When Kyle’s mom didn’t want Shep no more it opened Shep’s eyes to the fact he needed to stop running away. So it was time to help Kyle with his attitude.
Kyle needed to be put in his place by Sheppard he had to give him that tough fatherly love to cool his attitude down to know he's about to blow his future if he goes down the wrong path.
Shep is so good on d, he dont gotta watch the hips with the hand in the face. Just stands in a defensive stance and stares into his eyes talking shit😂😂
After watching this movie anytime I'm at the court and I see a guy in tight jeans & a corduroy jacket saying he got up next I'm sitting the next game out..
@@larrytenelanda5343 I'm not sure what to compare it to. Other basketball movies? I think a lot of movies that are geared around a sport, or a hobby may be limiting it's audiences. It also lacks any big actors. Good actors, but take White Men Can't Jump. That had Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson during the primes of their careers. Tupac, Leon, Martin, Wayans were not of that caliber. Still the movie lacks the respect it deserves.

You could tell that basketball has serious history. I think it's the ball that night nutso died. Shep should have went to the pros made Kyle look like an amateur.
