Welcome to my Music Theory Tutorials. In this music theory lesson I will guide you through chapter eighteen in ABRSM Music Theory in Practice Grade 1 Part 1. In this tutorial I give tips on how to best learn and revise all the material covered in the ABRSM Grade 1 Music Theory in Practice workbook. I help you to work through the first General Exercise and show you where to refer back to in your ABRSM workbook to revise the necessary topics.
I have been teaching music theory for over twenty five years and I’ll help you every step of the way - just as if you were sitting next to me. I have provided free a PDF information booklet with all the information you’ll need to work through the Grade 1 ABRSM Music Theory in Practise workbook, available in A4 and US Letter.
Music Theory is an integral part of any musician’s studies. Understanding the structures behind the music we play supports our practise and performance. Even if you don’t play an instrument understanding how music is constructed helps us to be a more informed listener.
I LOVE music theory! It’s like peeling back the layers of the music to look at the nuts and bolts that hold it all together and make the music work.

You are a genius and In my opinion this is one of the best courses if abrsm online and could you please make a video where you recommend books that help in hand positioning and technique and god bless you 🙏

Thank you so much! I'm so pleased that my videos are helpful to you. I'm afraid I can't really make suggestions about instruments as people who study music theory play many various instruments - it's not particularly related to any specific instrument, but music in general. Best wishes for your studies. 😊🎶

Just want to add that, in the G1 Theory book is shows you the Accent, symbol but it doesn’t anywhere state, added pressure…. Strange. Thoughts?

I guess it's saying the same thing; accent/added pressure. Accent is the title of the sign, added pressure explains how to achieve the effect.

Hello! I have been watching your videos for a while and I really enjoy them! Thank you deeply for taking the time to make them I really benefit a lot for them ❤️ I have a question in 15:18 why didn’t you add another bar line at the very end ? To me, it seems so unnatural to leave it like that? Is that musically correct? Thank you very much!
@SharonBill

The question only asks for the first four bars and I didn't need the whole line for this. I couldn't add another bar as it would mean bar five has been partially included, but left blank. I know what you mean about looking strange, however it isn't unmusical - it's just a small extract that doesn't need much space.
