You should install a mini split in your garage it's way more efficient and also heats! I installed mine about two months ago, and it didn't even make a dent in my electric bill. Last winter I was spending $30mo. heating my garage with a propane heater, not to mention the air quality in here was probably not good for me.

Agree. I have one and operates off of solar panel. Hardly uses any power off the grid.

Also agree. I installed a Mr. Cool in my garage a few years ago (I'm also in NC with humidity as thick as honey) and it has changed my life. Between that and a 2 post lift it's like a little piece of heaven out there!

I recently replaced my transit discs (rusted in half after 17,000 miles - ever seen that?) and pads and it went into limp mode with ABS etc light on. Replaced the sensor as I thought that was damaged by me trying to get the rusted hub off. I’d actually damaged the abs ring and ended up buying a new non Ford new hub for £100 - all good now! A learning process! Oh yes, I also had to drill out the sensor too I remember as it wouldn’t come out of the hole! I think that was a cheap part, only around £13, but that wasn’t the problem.

That sensor is probably a Hall Effect device, basically a solid state magnetic switch that produces a pulse each time the raised portion of the tone wheel passes by.

I see alot of bad wheel hub bearings ! If the reluctor wheel gets rusty and or greasy it will not read correctly and heat from the worn bearing can take out an ABS sensor also ! Always replace the sensor harness for more accurate milli volts going to the module !

Many many years ago I learned about this on the Goss' Garage segment of "Motor Week" on PBS. (I'd love to see comparisons with other sensors of the same type.) I love this type of video and I would love if you did more of these. Autopsies are great for us who never get to see these things.

Kenny, the shim is often to set the air gap for the sensor tip to tone wheel.

I've had trouble with the sensors & bearings that have the shim. I've had them space it out too far but if you remove the shim then the sensor touches the tone ring. I've had to shave down the pad on the bearing to make them work right. The moral of the story is to buy a good bearing to begin with.

Mechanics replaced a speed sensor on left front of my Scion xB to fix antilock brake issue there were other problems that were exposed and corrected both A arms were replaced bushings were rotted and front disc brakes and rotors were replaced totaled $2500 but worth it, car drives much better now.

In Ireland we NEVER say left side or right side. Confusing. depends if you are looking into the Engine o r driving the car. Instead we say M NEAR side front or NEAR side rear, (Side of car Nearest the kerb), or else, Off Side front Off side Rear(The side of the car or van Off or away from the kerb. The exception being if the car was registered in Europe. In that case, we would give chassis number when ordering parts. In Ireland we drive on the Left, in Europe they drive on the Right.

Yeah most ABS sensors produce an A.C. voltage so the wire colors dont matter at all, when repairing.
@SeanBZA
@SeanBZA Месяц назад
The shim is to take care of manufacturing tolerances on the plastic moulding. the sensors are mass produced, and then all get measured as to length from the moulding base to tip of the sensor, then put into bins accordingly. Then the shims are made to adjust the overall height to get equal signal strength out of the coil and magnet when in use, so the ABS unit gets an equal amplitude signal ,so that they all will switch at the right point (internally to the ABS unit the signal conditioning operates on both the amplitude and the zero crossing, to get speed and also allow it to operate and cut off the ABS control when the wheel is slow enough) and all will drop out at the same speed, so you do not get ABS operation attempting to correct what is thought of as a stopped wheel when you are very slow. Thus the shims, and a careful calibration in the plant to put them in the right height from the tone wheel.

Well the trouble with the way you do your splices is that I could never remember to slip the heat shrink on before making the crimp.

@@WrenchingWithKenny It's got a cop motor. A 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say.. Is it the new Bluesmobile, or what?

My Wife and I have a 2016 Genesis Sedan 3.8L that has a intermittent ABS light coming on. We have had 1 mechanic say we need to replace the sensor. Another told us that the sensor was part of the bearing. Which is correct?
@bobby9195
@bobby9195 Месяц назад
You should be able to get a new sensor. Only 2 small screws or little bolts that hold it in the hub. Not a professional mechanic but look for a small wire loom going into the hub. You'll see it then look for the two little bolts that should be holding it in. I'm pretty sure you can get a replacement at almost any part store.easy fix.

@@bobby9195 ABS sence the wheel stop rotating while the vehicle is moving..When this occurs the braking system stops applying pressure to the stationary wheel.
@052RC
@052RC Месяц назад
You have to diagnose the issue to see if the sensor is actually the problem and not something else. If it is the sensor there should be a dtc telling you which one it is. The second one is not true. On some vehicles they put the tone wheel on the axel and some put it inside the wheel bearing. The sensor itself is not in the bearing. Your ABS light can come on for many reasons, not just for a bad sensor. The hydraulic pump may be going bad. The ABS module, as well. Also, in modern cars, the ABS system is used for other things, not just anti lock braking.. Traction control, self parking, tpms, etc... An issue with one of those can cause the ABS system to deactivate for safety reasons.
