Water and Sewage arent complicated, but there are some rules to follow. Here they are!
With all the New Features, its time to go over a new 'How to get started' tutorial. No Realistic Mode this time, just pure structure and building and making it work, just to speed everything up.
This is a simple series to get you started.
If you have any questions, please ask, and I will add a video to the Series that explains it in detail.
My tutorials and how to guides are aimed at new players, who may have skipped the in game tutorial or found issue with the same. This game has many hidden features, and I aim to show you all of them.
WR:SR is an amazing sandbox city/republic builder, that allows you to control all aspects of your new country, from citizens happiness, health, education to production chains, vehicle and resource production, import export. You can do all this by truck, train, ship, and in the near future plane. There are a million ways to make your republic your own and that’s what we will do.
I just started this channel, and I hope you enjoy the content. I’m also active on:
Twitter: / bballjo , I try to share things about the channel here. Sometimes I will post new video announcements or let you know when I go live on YT or Twitch.
Reddit: / bballjo , I just started using this, but I am relatively active in the creator subreddits and the current games I am playing.
If you read all the way to here, I appreciate your commitment and support and hope you are enjoying what I am creating.

Great, concise, well spoken video! I have 11 hours and I'm barely keeping up. I have always wanted a city builder with this level of complexity, and I had no idea it was right here. Like the sewage thing. Quite realistic, in a simple way. In the States, those "sewage pumps" are called lift stations. It is why it's so important you don't flush diapers, "flushable wipes," feminine products, etc. A water tower can supply positive pressure to homes. But homes cannot supply positive pressure to the sewage system. It has to flow down hill. And eventually, you run out of down, so you have to pump it up to start over. And inorganic stuff can get stuck in the lifting pumps. Anyway... maybe I'll have some citizens by 20 hours. :D

Just turn off the settings that make this hard for a short moment, i.e. only turn on water to plan building, and turn off realistic to actually autobuild the infrastructure:)

@@bballjo Well, I like this format so please continue with going through all sections with tips and tricks what to use and when with and without realistic mode. I would like episode on trains (and realistic mode) - when to start with it, which trains/building to use (or your preferences), some prequisities (money, steel production or so), switching from trucks to trains... If you would like to explain signals too I would suggest to split it in multiple episodes so it is more single topic shorter videos. I checked starting episode and universities and will continue with crimes when I have some people :) I will check parts of those when I need to solve something. Cool hopefully smaller than trains topic would be forklifts (not sure if I want to use that over trucks with medium distance or so) :) But whatever floats your boat will be nice! Thank your for tutorials! It is fun to learn new stuff 💛

Farms - for ground water - are the biggest source of polution to this day. Im from Czech Republic and as former socialist country we had huge problems with polluted ground water because of field fertilization. In general - people tend to forget, but communist goverment was one of the biggest polluters we ever had here, "green policies" were pretty much non-existent. In general you can build a well anywhere but to get semi clean water it has to be either from mountains (without agro industry) or you need to use chemical (mostly chlorine). People tend to forget that anything the water touched before reaching undwater reservoirs stays in it - like for example cow poop from farm land :D

Thanks for these, they've been a really helpful way to get into the game following the in game tutorial & campaign. Are there any resources on how to expand from this pretty well established starting town? Should I just be duplicating the same kind of template? (maybe covered in a video of yours I've not gotten to yet).
@bballjo
@bballjo 6 дней назад
Expansion follows very similar principles...the main driving force should probably be figuring out what size you would like to support when the city is done.

I was overthinking and overcomplicating the water and sewage. At start, just a technical with small garbage truck(s) is needed. Build garbage collection points later to simplify it. And export garbage across the border. Same with water and sewage. Collection points for sewage and water, and let trucks from technical import/export from border. Later on you can become more self sufficient: Burn the trash in incinerator - make sure to have a garbage truck with big container on it to free up the incinerator plant otherwise it will get clogged up. This big trash truck goes to border, unfortunately. Sewage export at first, then unload at sewage unloading - which is connected to sewage pump - then to sewage discharge. To dump the sewage - just create an artificial lake - just dig until you hit water. The hard part is massaging the terrain to plop down the sewage discharge...... Love this game.
@siriusczech
@siriusczech 9 месяцев назад
No pumps for sewage needed, just let it flow down. In my (Czech) tutorial I went with discharge to a lake right away and with sewage unloading right next to a city. Then a switch nearby and a loooong pipe towards the discharge. Reason? TS near the city are saving tons of fuel by dumping at the unloading. Later on a city sewers do connect to that switch but still 1-2 trucks are kept at bay. If ANYTHING goes wrong or pipes are not finished fast enough, TS will go out and truck sewage manually to the discharge. Collection points/substation are great for saving TS lots of trips as well. And they are needed later on anyway so build them as much as you can without people and then let your first citizens finish them.

I struggle with connecting pipes with the correct slope. Primarily when I need to go back and connect something new into the system. I end up having to basically delete everything back to source or dump to get everything aligned. Am I missing something or is that just how it works? Do you have a good vid on how to interpret underground pipe slopes and best places to splice in new infrastructure?
@bballjo
@bballjo 7 месяцев назад
Interpret slope: use the measurement tool, you can use the topography view (F2) at the same time to get an idea. Splice in new: don't. Plan ahead and add some switches in reasonable places, but understand that the large pipe has a max throughput, and large city sewers need their own direct pipes and shouldn't be combined. Once all that is done, new infrastructure can be added with sewer pumps, they can go up to 15m deep, or you can terraform. The slope really just cares about the start and end points, so pumps in the middle are fine.

what do you do with sewage if there is no lake nearby? Let's say I have treatment plant that is treating sewage. What do I do with the output of it? Can I reuse that water for production somewhere? Can I dispose of it somehow? What are my options?
@bballjo

You have to dump it in water or export to customs house.

The chemical plant and fabric factory produce waste water. Do you know how much waste water it produces per day on maximum production? Is it just all the water it uses turns into waste water?
@bballjo
@bballjo 8 месяцев назад
It's water plus waste, so it's a little more, but the water and waste pipes are already sized for that, so you only match the pipe sizes

Do I not need a pump after a switch ??? Well-pump-filtration-pump-switch-tower-switch-substation ??? Dose that work ???
@bballjo
@bballjo 8 месяцев назад
Yes. Switches keep the total pressure spread across pipes, and towers can store pressure...so 1 pump on each side of filtration is enough

I copied your video to the letter of the law, and I'm only getting 21.33 m3 water per day. I'm not sure how you managed to get yours so high. I used the exact same number of buildings, pumps, same pipe sizes etc. Now I do have 4 water towers that the purified water is making it's way to via the various pumps and switches etc, but that shouldn't effect the amount of water the actual plant is treating. I wonder where I am going wrong? edit: "We cannot store or export water" is flashing on my second small water well, and the current production per work day is going from 0.00 - 0.01. So it seems it's the well. Bizarre. It has power but it's doing that annoying quick flashing thing

Well, I'm certainly dumb I just spent like 20 minutes setting up a sewage treatment plant in the hopes that I could use it to recycle water or something, and now I'm just out a shitload of money and all I have to show for it is a sewage treatment plant connected to itself I *might* still be able to make this work but I'll need to get a little custom with it and hope that importing sewage does what I think it does Edit: My sewage truck won't import waste water for whatever reason

@bballjo
@bballjo 17 дней назад
@rufus3715 if I understand you right...the well water pump is a terrible label, because it only pumps out of the ground, after that it's just gravity. You need the water pumps to pressurize the system. You can then store pressure and water in water towers, from which water can flow via gravity. So, all you need is 1 pump to move water from well to treatment plant, and 1 pump to move water from treatment plant into water tower...the rest works without pumps.
