I would use your approach Tim as well. Speaking from experience while backing over brush and small trees with a Woodmaxx 72H flail mower with hammer ( duck foot shaped) knives it does a wonderful job. But only go so far then pull forwards and take down to ground level. I had a small tree about 1 inch go thru the slotted holes on the skid plate ripped it down and broke a fuel line.

Great video! I want a mulcher so bad for my 5075E I think you guys should try a hydraulic top link and shorten the top when you back into brush and extend it when you go forward I think that would help a lot of the brush from swinging under the tractor😀 awesome machine!!!!!

The best way to cut the bigger stuff would be to lift the mulcher up in the air 2 feet then back over the big tree until it cuts it off. Then you will be over top of the stump, then drop the mulcher down onto the stump grinding it away. The reason for doing it this way is when you got the mulcher all the way down at the start it grabs the biggest part of the stump to soon.

Hi Tim. I’m fairly new to your channel, and really enjoy your content. I wanted to mention that when you adjust a slip clutch, you need to return it to the factory setting after it cools down. The coefficient of friction of the lining material decreases when it gets hot necessitating the adjustment in spring force to compensate. Once the friction linings cool off they return to their natural coefficient of friction so you need to adjust the spring force back to avoid disabling the slip clutch.

8 year mulcher here operating dedicated carriers. Try a hydraulic third link and pitch the mulcher down a few degrees when going forward with the door closed. I think you will get more bite and it will lift the chains out of the way to grab the debris vs dragging it.

I’m thinking that if the top link had been shortened just a little that maybe it wouldn’t have let the brush jerk under the tractor hardly as much. If you notice it’s tilted more towards the rear which is making a bigger gap between the ground and mulcher to allow brush to come forward under the machine. Not sure it would make a difference but would be worth trying. Great Demonstration!

Tim, you've probably talked more people into buying tractors than any given number the salemen at the dealerships. You mentioned a few videos back about a shortage of compact and subcompact tractors. The local dealership (Monticello) had 20+ tractors 2 years ago when i bought mine. Drove there to get a part 2 days ago and there 7. (1) 102xR, (1) 3039R w/cab, (3) 40xxR 2 w/cab and 1 w/o, (2) 50xxR w/cabs. Few implements and NO USED TRACTORS ON THE LOT! Thought about trading my 3E for a 3R, can't quite get the checkbook out of my pocket. Please keep the vidoes coming. I think some of the issues with it being so violent in grabbing brush is two issues. On most other muchers you might only have two rows of knives or carbides in a spiral pattern around the drum and for lower HP machines they use depth limiting rings to reduce the "bite" of the cutters. Also I think backing in to a stand with the cutter all the way down on the first pass allows for there to be enough pressure of the ground to keep it engaged to the cutter and pull it rapidly through. (Think feed rollers on a wood planer) and that starting with the cutter higher then working it down as the pieces get smaller to produced better results. Most CTL mulchers work their machines this way.
@jwbeaton
@jwbeaton 2 года назад
I agree, watching forestry mulching businesses, they usually do a first pass higher up, then go back in at ground level, I think it was sucking in too much at once.

Looks to me to run it a bit off the ground backing and take stuff out. Then on the ground coming back forward. Going back he is eating roots and the top - and roots are tough, they interlace and have strength. Complex mowing and thrashing. That is for certain!

@5critters
@5critters 4 года назад
Yep, even after they said they closed the gate it was throwing stuff under the tractor and out the front at a pretty high velocity. I like what a local guy has -- a skid steer with a forestry disk mulcher mounted on the *front*. I hired him a little over a year ago to do a few hours' work out here. A lot easier to use, not having to go in reverse, and while it throws stuff off to the side, it's not hazardous to the skid steer itself. Yeah, getting a skid steer + the disk mulcher means spending right much more money than simply buying a tractor implement, but it does a lot better job without the danger to your equipment. He stays pretty busy hiring himself out with that thing I believe, so it's paying for itself over time. I'm going to get him out here again before too long, to cut some paths through the woods across the road.

@semco72057 4 года назад
That mulcher does a good job of clearing the trees, but I would be worried about some of the wood hitting and flatting a tire or two while working in that area and that larger tractor does help in that type of work. One guy in my area had a tractor about that size and had a brush hog behind it which did a great job of clearing brush and small trees growing along the power lines. He was working for the area electric company and must have made plenty of money clearing the area along the route and made more than enough money to keep his equipment working just fine. The tractor and mulcher cleaned up that small area quite nicely and the material was ripped up perfectly and turned into mulch where your tractor and brush hog could take care of the rest and I would like rent such a machine to clear some land we have which has been growing up for a long time and too much for my tractor to do alone.

These Baumalight units have me really interested. Thanks for demonstrating them. Maybe they could put some type of recirculation plate on the back to minimize throw back. I'm afraid of hydraulic lines and filters getting knocked off. I know Denis Cimaf heads have disks which reduce bite per revolution to reduce grabbing this, kind of like rakers on a chainsaw blade. Denis doesn't make tractor heads though. Even with these features, the skidsteers running them still have demo doors installed. I have a bunch of huge mount of autumn olives taking over an upper pasture, and spreading to the lower pasture, and some hickory saplings. Tim, does it bug you that those 3pt pto mulching heads all have gearboxes on one side that are exposed to standing brush/trees beyond the cutter head. Too bad there isn't a way to tuck that behind the head so that isn't getting beat up on standing brush. I suppose after your initial push into the brush, you could work away from the gearbox, but that seems like one advantage of skid-steer hydraulic units. Keep up the great videos!

How do you think the MP560 would work on grinding pine stumps in the 10"-12" range to 1" below grade with a 75 HP John Deere 5075E? I am having 3 acres of pine forest timbered. I was wondering if I cut the pine stumps with my chain saw to ground level, would the MP560 be able to grind the remaining stump to 1" below ground level?

It works. However, the gear drive aspect of the 5075e is not good. A hydrostatic tractor is much more effective.

That would be a long slow job for Me, or one I'd just have to hire the right crew to get it done safely like cutting down a tree. Looks like I lost the Stump Grinder purchase For Now Ken

Would that mulcher suit a tractor with front linkage with 1000 rpm pto?

This size is offered with 1000 rpm...so, yes.

Could you have used the loader to push the over and drove over them forward. Giving a better mulching effect ?

Woulda been pretty rough on the tractor.

We bought an old farm last year. 35 acres of fence line to clear and 10 acres of pasture to reclaim. So far, my wife has done about 4 acres by hand. She got injured and is wanting machinery to finish the job and showed me this video. Since we're still in the gut & add onto phase of fixing the 100+ year old house and the barn needs a new roof, it will be awhile before we can afford equipment to clear the fence lines and reclaim the pasture edgess. Any chance you'd come to AL and let us try it out with a New Holland TL100A for your videos? :-)

Shopgreendealer.com/ttwt. Call them if they don’t show in stock. We have MP348 for smaller 30-50 hp tractors. This one MP560 is for 60-90 hp tractors or so.

What if you curled the bucket and lowered it close to the ground. That should keep the trees from shooting forward.

That mulcher does a good job. But a skid steer with the front end forestry mulcher does and much quicker job of clearing trees and brush. And I think they can mulch much bigger trees with ease. I’m sure the one in this video can do must anything the other one can do, but being able to raise the mulcher up to mulch the trunk of bigger trees while it’s still standing is much quicker. The problem I have with this type of setup with a tractor, is that there’s a lot of riding the clutch. But most people can’t afford to buy a skid steer mulcher setup just to clear brush and trees on their farm. Unless they own a thousand acres or so that is. I think I’d just rent one if I didn’t have a tremendous amount of clearing to do.

The Bauma-Light seems to be a compromise attachment, meaning there are much better attachments available, but they are for either a purpose built machine or a skidsteer. An articulating forestry mulcher would do more work in short order, but doesn't do anything but mulching and is a $1M machine. Skidsteers can be great, but if you don't own one or don't have the Hydraulic Flow then the cost is much higher.

Isn’t everything a compromise?

The next step with this mulcher is to beef up the back bar to turn it into a grabber, have a piston attached to push it up and down, then plumb it to hydraulic remotes. Drive up to brush, push down the grabber & grab the vegetation, drive out dragging the vegetation, lift the grabber, then drive over the vegetation, mulching it. It would be easier on the mulcher, tractor & the operator. There is such a machine in Australia, it’s called the Scrub Claw.
