I remember the day this came out in 2019, and I literally sat there in tears watching and listening to Freddie Mercury again, so crisp and clear. I was in high school when he passed away, and it blows my mind that it's been 30 years since then come this November. I've been a Freddie/Queen fan literally all my life, and this really felt like a beautiful gift that was buried away, waiting for the perfect time to bless us with Freddie again. Never been anyone like Freddie, and never will again. He really was the epitome of a showman, and yeah, you could see, feel and hear every emotion that man experienced every time he opened his mouth. Brilliant artist and forever one of my faves.

I don't know if you know but this vocal is the demo version. He was asked to sing it, he sang it through in one (this was him singing it first time). They lost the vocal and recently found it, redid the piano and this is the result

Great reaction to a beautiful song. Yes it's a shock seeing Freddie in HD. Great production and piano. It will be hard to find a better vocal performance from anyone ever. It will be a disappointment listening to the original Time now.
This was rediscovered in 2019 by Dave Clark, believe it or not this was an early rehearsal tape and wasn't the final version! The version that was used is out on RU-vid called just "Time". There is a great "making of" video somewhere as well. It was filmed on the stage set for the show. The other version is more gospel with a choir, but I love this version because it is just Freddie and piano, with no place to hide it shows his incredible talent. Any hope for "The Great Pretender?"
This song, and the song In My Defence, was written by Dave Clark (famous for being the founder of The Dave Clark Five in the 60's) for his musical Time. Freddie agreed to record them for the album of Time, and that's how he and Dave Clark became good friends.
The other Freddie song from the musical "Time" by Dave Clark. "In My Defence" is the other one. "Clark was a close friend of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, whom he had known since 1976. He was by Mercury's bedside when the Queen singer died on 24 November 1991."

Mint reaction as per mate. Try the great pretender by Freddie from the 90s. Its not queen per say but it may as well have been got . Its got the harmonies a even a guitar solo. One of his best 90s vocals.. Also try a hero from the 'flash soundtrack. The live one from Milton Keynes. Its the opening song. Not that well know for a Queen song but it's perfect to open the gig, good to see you on the up, take care and best wishes

I was so captivated by this performance that I forgot to write my words here. This is so amazing, his voice is so free and yet so controlled. Thank you for a great reaction. I heard Freddie once say that he would never again lipsync (after having to on Top Of The Pops, Killer Queen) when he did videos because it looked ridiculous so I am guessing he is actually singing which gives him that feeling that he can relate into movement.
I believe he was actually lip-synching, base on the mic positions, but it was fantastically well-done - and as Lizzie pointed out, this was a "rehearsal" -- !!
@@stevenlovett643 As long as he didn't have a hot mic, he could have been singing along with the recording and I believe that is what he usually preferred to do. No, Barcelona needed an entire orchestra and would not have been good live just like Bohemian Rhapsody. Only pieces of BoRhap are done live due to the massive overdubbing on the original. According to Brian, Freddie was a human metronome and could sing over something and have it be exactly the same if he chose to. I remember hearing Freddie say that exact thing once when he was told to lipsync something He said no that he could do an overdub edit better than an engineer could sync him.
@@sherryheim5504 There was a live TV performance once, i can't remember which country, but the producers insisted he lypsync. Freddie being Freddie turned the mic on half way through for a short time pissing them off LOL Freddie was human you know, he had times when his vocals were below par and sounded quite bad, suffered quite a bit with his vocal chords etc, but Freddie for the most part was a good vocalist there's no doubting that. An incredible vocal range.

When he does his Ayy Ohs he holds each one a certain length of time and then directs the audience in their repeat and it always seems exactly the same length. Of course I have no way to really evaluate that scientifically, but they sure seem right on.

Lovely reaction David! Such a shame, that we don't have more than a few "making of ..." videos with Freddie. It would be so interesting to see how he put it together, how he sang this beautiful song at the recording process. I think Dave Clark said in an interview, that Freddie was the only artist who did his best, even though there were a lot of great singers on the record.

So Dave Clarke was a member of a 60's teeny bop band in the 60's, they even made a film. TIME was a musical that he wrote and produced, I believe. He was one of Freddie's friends in the final days. funnily, I think Freddie walk around the seats in the theatre one night serving ice cream :) great vocal, well shit yeah it's Fred!

Freddie asked Dave Clark if he could sing "Born to rock & roll" for the Time album but Dave said no because Cliff Richard was doing it, Freddie said I shall record it abd release it later as it will be better than Cliffs, Freddie did record it but Dave says the recording like this was lost in his vaults somewhere, he is searching for it, hope he finds it.
WHAAAAT.... I did NOT know that! Fingers CROSSED that Dave will find it someday.... What a GIFT a new recording of Freddie would be.💕 (I love that Fred just said he'd record his own version anyway because his w/b BETTER.😅)

You'll feel like the proverbial fly on the wall listening in to a private conversation. Kudos to Dave Clarke for resurrecting this version and a deep friendship still very much alive.

This was not a Mercury creation. It was part of a musical stage show production by his friend Dave Clark w asked Freddie to do a song for the soundtrack album. That was In My Defense. While there he heard Time Waits For No One & loved it. He asked them to let him give it a try & the rest is history.

Excellent reaction ,I was so lucky to have seen him and Queen live, I first saw them in 1977 at what was the Empire Pool Wembley London, the last time I saw them was at the NEC Birmingham in 1984 ,in my eyes the were the best BAND EVER, theres a track called Mad The Swine I had never heard it before until the other day ,I dont know much about it but I think it was recorded in about 1973 ,IF anyone has any info about this track I would like to know more, if you have time David I,d like you to do a reaction O
Hey David the empire pool Wembley (wembley arena)I used to work there David 👍.The pool is still there intact underneath the arena.I was blown away when I was first shown it!!.I never saw them in 77 but I thought that there was something very special about their performances in 77 . David Queen actually opened the NEC in 79 .79 at Alexander palace was the first time I got to see Queen.Stay safe mate all the best buddy 👍
Loved the reaction. You are so spot on with Freddie bringing the emotions to the music. I was watching a singer not long ago and technically they were a perfect singer but there was no emotion or passion to it and I honestly I would never listen to that technically perfect singer again. It was so boring to watch and listen too. It takes so much more than just the technicalities of singing to be an amazing singer. I have such high standards for music because of Queen and Freddie. Their music you can feel not just hear.
