Welcome everyone new from Phly's stream!
The Churchill 1 in War Thunder is a British Heavy Tank with amazing armour and capabilities. An absolute unit of a tank.
The Churchill has had a passive buff with the new War Thunder patch. The new volumetric shells really struggle to penetrate this British Heavy Tank due to its overlapping armor and very awkward angles.
The British Churchill 1 in the right hands is almost unstoppable given the right map and battle rating. War Thunder improved a lot of tanks, but this one really takes the tea and biscuits!

The volumetric shells has changed the meta in many ways, some negatively. However, it's really great to see some of the heavy tanks actaully having effective armour. Going to have to try this chonk of a tonk again. Exposed tracks are cool too.

The Churchill MkVII is even better if it gets top tier, it’s basically invulnerable and has a better gun (tier for tier). Plus you can run it with the Spitfire F Mk IX and the Typhoon Mk IIb

The shell change making most tanks more durable has honestly made the game a lot more interesting for me to watch (had to stop playing sadly). Actually seeing shells bounce or do minimal damage make the tanks feel a bit more durable and scary.

I got schooled in my 3inch gun carrier early on. Didn't notice it was you till you shouted out the incoming plane. I saw how many hits you were taking when covering from your right, Awesome watching in game. Playing the churchills before the patch was interesting enough, should be more fun now.

The first French heavy tank is also super good now. I love how volumetric shells made armor matter so much more. Speed and mobility is still essential, but heavy tanks aren't useless anymore!

Yeah, that thing has become one of the best heavy tanks or possibly even tanks tier for tier, you need about 300mm of odd pen to reliability penetrate it anywhere but the lower frontal plate ( frontally of course ). A few days ago I played it and got 8 kills, 8 assists and 0 deaths on my first game.

I get wrecked in my caer, the UFP is impenetrable but the turret is the same as a Cent mk.3, the FV with the chieftain turret is OP if you get hull down though, turret bounce's panther 2s and tiger 2s easily but then they just shred your chassis if you move.

With the new overpressure mechanic the Churchill 1's 3 inch howitzer HE shell now has a use. It can one shot open topped vehicles like M-10s.

Thanks to a little bug report I made the 2pdr APCBC shot went from 24mm of pen at 2000m to 50mm at 2000m this patch ;>

Wow! I'm impressed! I was grinding British BR3 recently and the Churchill was painful! Dies the moment anything even looks at it and the guns were completely ineffective - I like your idea of smoke in the howitzer though. Great video!

This tank is a gem. It is so fun to take so many shots without dying. The smoke potential of this tank adds a lot of flexibility. When you angle like a person with a brain, you are extremely tough. The gun can feel a bit underwhelming and inaccurate, but you fire so fast it doesn't really matter that much. The APHE round is a bit gimicky I guess, but it is also adds a bit of flexibility for the certain situations. The turret traverse is great, the track traverse is good too, and the speed is perfectly acceptable for a heavy tank at the lower BR's. The only real problems with it is the reverse rate and when that front slope on the hull gets shot by Russian -magic rounds- APBC

The case-mate howitzer is pretty effective against light tanks and AA trucks. I use its 10mm of pen to hull break them, it also works with the 37mm canon in the M6a1's turret. I took out a 88 flak truck with the 37mm's HE, since the 76mm APHE would over pen

Seems like not many people know this weakspot, but you can penetrate the upper engine exhaust plate on the side with every tank, it only has 15mm armour and leads directly to the engine.......

I absolutely love this thing, it's my stress-relief tank when other tiers or vehicles have been getting on my nerves. IMO the armour is of a better layout than the Mark III at the expense of a poorer gun, but the 2-pounder can still do some pretty good work. The turret front, provided you don't get hit in the slots for the gunsight, barrel, or MG port is really well-protected with the internal mantlet, and the hull angled is just, well, a Churchill hull angled which should say enough lmao. Also hullbreaking Pumas by hitting their wheels with the 3-inch howitzer's HE shell is pure joy - it's such a fun and underrated tank all-round

Every time I've taken this out in the past, and I mean every time, I've been one shot by a Puma, an F2 or something else. You regularly face 4.0s which have no trouble slicing though the armor. I will try it again though after this update.

@@kirishima638 Those are definitely some of the more dangerous machines it faces - I've found that the Panzer IV F2 is best countered by acting as though you abruptly have no armour - first shot straight into their gunner or turret and try to do absolutely anything you can to kill them first and avoid being shot. Pumas I find usually get me through the sides rather than the front, so with those it's more trying to make sure allies are around or that you can react quickly and move the tank should one appear. Definitely vehicles that have an edge on you, but are not unbeatable.

@@kirishima638 just don't face them, angle decently and then if you think they're about to shoot look away and they'll bounce, they only one shot you if you look directly at them and they shoot you in the turret flat on

What’s your opinion of the explosive shell? Not many Brit tanks have access to this kind of shell. Especially when up close, I found that you can get more one shot kills.

@@simonlancaster1815 Generally I almost never carry it myself - I've tested it a few times and while I definitely agree with you it can assure a better kill close-up, the loss of penetrative ability and not having any ballistic cap to improve performance against angled armour makes me rather reluctant to use it. The 2-pounder's consistency and accuracy is not always very good, and the small explosive filler of the shell means sometimes it'll fuse and detonate with very little damage done. I've personally come to prefer the slightly-lower-damage capped solid shot shell as I find it tends to perform better against more angled armour as well as having more penetrative ability.

It's not really OP, not like the KV1B. There are massive weak points on above and below the gun. Every tank around 4.7 can pen it easily. I was actually dissapointed when I got it. Even the gun - the same as on the F2 at 3.3 - is really lacking at that BR.

Hey Odd, You should try out the Japanese Ho-I medium tank howitzer 2.0 BR It's fun to try and aim the low velocity gun and makes a good addition to a low-tier Japanese lineup... but only if you are effective with it ;)

It only has 80mm of pen with it's HEAT which is pretty bad for 2.0, big weak spots, and a loooong reload. No smoke grenades either. It's worse than the Panzer IV C in everyway.

I really wish they would get the speed higher on all the British tanks. They are sooooo slow. Dont even get me started on their reverse. Odd you made that Churchill look like supertank of the year. Actually the Churchill is dead on. Its actually just like the real Churchill...Slow lumbering and cant get out of his own way but is tough as nails. Great video bro. T/C

British tanks are the fastest in early tiers?? A cromwell or a crusader will beat a pz 3/4, sherman or t-34 handily whilst packing a better gun (upto 3.7), it's only armored cars that outpace them like pumas and R3s

Hooray the Churchill has been doing better and I enjoyed it even before and now it's 3.3br... Time to play my Centurion mk1 and the 5.7br lineup since Gaijin said about improving vehicles with lineups oh but now that lineups dead with Centurion mk1 only one at 6.0... Gaijin why do you do this.

The Matilda is like what the Maus was like. If you put it down a br, other tanks wont be able to do a whole lot to it. But where it sits currently makes it almost useless compared to the Churchill.

With everyone doing online classes internet quality isn't as good as it was cause like it or not we are all on the same network just limited to be stronger or weaker and when everyone is on or at lest 5% of us are on the internet it slows it down and for some of us not even money can speed up the connection so most of us don't have the bandwidth to even launch the game or even google some times. (hope this answered your question odd) - and if that is not the reason we all have friends and family to take care of too. and even work
