Abstract painting demo. creating a textured surface and designs with random tools, color washes 

The only plan I have is what I feel like painting at the moment. abstract,seascape, landscape,urban etc. I allow myself a 3 minute sketch either on paper, canvas or both and then away we go.I don't try to come up with ideas, I try to single out and focus on one of many that we all have in our heads.

I use alot of medium when blending,Before my brushes touch paint they get dipped into medium.Im glad you like!

I have been painting for 30 years this is the most AMAZING art demo I have EVER seen. I sat watching this with my mouth hanging open, laughing out loud and clapping - an absolute delight!!!

This is my favorite abstract video ever! Fabulous use of texture. In the beginning I wanted you to add color so much - and then you did and I got my fix. I kept thinking, stop, it's beautiful, and then you would make it better. You have a fan here.

Glad you like! I dont use water as a painting medium, I do however use it for different effects as in this video. I splash water on the wet paint and then lift it along with the paint it sits on, makes for a nice weathered look.I use liquitex mediums, there are many different kinds available. The brushes are mural brushes and like most they come in different types of bristle. The brown animal hair is very soft. The nylon is very durable but streaks a bit.Try different ones find what works.Enjoy!

the moment at 8:44 min of this video completely transformed the painting.... what a pleasure watching your magical wizard like hands creating textures, forms and a whole different world!!! this looked out of this world, perhaps like a scene you would see if travelling on a space ship :)

I enjoyed every phase of this painting. Early on, it looked like a skyscraper in the sunset with reflections of water in the foreground. Love the development of color and texture.

I have been following you for some time now and when I get the chance I watch your whole film from beginning to end creation. You are gifted in so many ways , it is a blessing to watch you work. The colour choices you make and the tools you use that add depth and light are just pure brilliance.Your gift to paint with both hands is endearing . Your steadiness with the circular flows and straight lines is also to be commended. There aren't many artists that have your talents in this era that can work being filmed. This is wonderful. It has shape and it creates objects, but all dreamlike. This must be oil. Oil has such flexibility with colours.

I mix the medium with the paint to create a transparent color, similar to glaze!

In the dvd's do you explain what materials you are using and techniques? There is no explanation on the youtube videos and many questions from amateur artists hoping to improve their technique go unanswered.

Hi, The black part is dry so it wont blend, I'm also using a wash which is somewhat transparent so the dark shows through it.
