THE FIN-NOR Ahab is I nice reel. It has the set it and forget it drag system and it is smooth. Sounds like a great find - I just found another Seven that is without the synchro, so I may do a compare. - Dennis

My guess is that your reel has a lot of old great or dirt that is stopping the release from working properly. I would open the case and check - Dennis

Have you removed the "E" clip or screw at the top of the post? That is the only thing that holds the gear sleeve assembly on - If those have been removed, is the gear sleeve turning freely? If it isn't, try some penetrating oil to loosen it up - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for the quick response! It seems like there is a screw-like thing going into the brass or its just where the retariner goes, but I do not see any way of un-screwing it. Also in the video I didn't notice you doing anything to it, just pulling it out..?

@@2ndChanceTackle I found the problem! For some reason the top of the pole where the brass break assembly thing goes was a bit bent or it had been hit by something so I had to file the the edges at the top. Came out as easy as in the video. Thanks for trying to help!

Hi Shannon - I work to repair reels for a charter boat that uses Penn Reels, so there are a lot of these in my to do bin. Turning to other customers, it is a mixed bag. I get a fair representation of popular reels in for annual service. The dominant ones would be Shimano and Penn, followed by Abu and Daiwa. Most of the other brands are mixes of Okuma, Quantum and various bait casters or fresh water reels. If you are asking if the Penn vs. Abu models break down less, then it is even. Both are highly reliable reels with proven track records. The failures are more related to user lack of care and attention as opposed to poor parts or design. Did that answer your question? That' about the best as I could recommend - soak it with a penetrating oil. Also, I am not sure if that nut is reverse threaded, so you may want to try turning it clockwise to loosen - Dennis

It is a normal drag when reeling in, however, you can turn the handle in reverse crank to loosen the drag tension when fighting a fish. Turning it forward again re-locks the drag

I haven't spooled it with line yet. The drag is interesting - I pushes down on the handle to provide the tension on the drag washers. - I plan to use this one in the fall for the Stripped bass run - Thanks for asking - Dennis

I generally do a video to show how to tune up the reel and don't go beyond that. Regarding the sync, turn the handle counter clockwise to reduce the drag and crank normally to restore to the full drag. The feature is useful and acts like a first strike level on a lever drag reel. It is particularly useful when bait chunking for game fish
