Born there in 1981 and left in 1998 and this is exactly how I remember it. Quiet, peaceful city that could sometimes be a bit dull. But there was always Dubai to head to for some fun.
But Abu Dhabi looks more modern than Dubai back then in the 90s. Abu dhabi looked much organized, green with sleek shiny buildings even the 1990s, but Dubai mostly had no greenery, old box type buildings and even broken type roads. What was fun in Dubai back than?
My hometown from my earliest years. Those were happy times for me. Umm al Emarat park used to be an amusement park with rides and games. I always enjoyed visiting my family members, snacks were cheap. Those were the humble and happy day of my childhood.
From 1997 to 2005 my mom was a migrant worker prior to moving to the U.S. During the time period, my older brother was born there in 2002 but left after a month and eventually coming back 8 months before immigrating to America. During 2002-2004, my brother was in the Phillipines with my dad.
The good old days when my family first moved here, and now it's almost time to go back. I've seen this country change through the years since then till now. I miss those days, when life was better 🙂
@@Khadafi_1986 one place in Musaffah, where I used to go... It was empty.. there where houses and no building that I could see.. almost like a village . . . But I remember my school "The Modern Pakistani School" .. it was such an amazing school.. then Australians took it down... There were such amazing villas right beside my school .. we used to drink water from there ... Amazing place .. amazing people... ♥️♥️.. miss the country... And my house...
@@Khadafi_1986 I am living a good but boring life.. Shukar Alhamdulilllah.. but you know childhood has its own nostalgia... That's totally different thing... Hope you have a good journey..
weird that that same time this was filmed we used to hang out downstairs a lot, but none of us show up. Must've been school day. explains the light traffic, everyone at work
Yes. Also earlier during Sheikh zayeds time, the pathans were the only or majority taxi drivers who used to be quite harsh or rude. After 2004 the old gold and white taxis were made away with and the current taxis started plying.
Thank you for this amazing video. It made me so emotional. We lived in Abu Dhabi between 1989-91. I was just 11 years old. And the moment ' saw my building in this video..it took me back to 90. Yes 1:34 that's the Harib Sultan Tower the half moon shaped building. We lived on 15th floor:( Under that building there was a VHS rental shop, everyday I was renting a movie :) And there was a huge car park lot behind this building. Each night we all the kids were playing football:(
I was born in musaffah 1991, then moved to nasr street in abu dhabi. My father served in the military since the 80's. Around this time 2000/2001 UAE felt like kicking people out of their country, we were given the boot. Can't say I miss it because I ended up in Europe and had a good up bringing here, but I will never forget my childhood there which was good to be honest, I will also never forget how we felt getting kicked out after my father served in the military for years !
can you elaborate more about how you felt upon leaving the country? I mean if a job contract gets terminated then its what it is why the negative feeling?
@@r_x004 Negative feeling ? What is so positive about risking your life for a country and then being told to leave ? I have no 'negative' feeling, because I was young when I left there, and we went to a better place. But thinking about it now as an adult , forget laws, it is morally not right to get someone to risk their life for you and then you show him/her the door. I have mentioned I had a good upbringing there and good memories, so there is your positive :) .
