Big fan of the garcia casting reels, my first reel was my fathers old ambassador 5000 MADE in sweden, not swedish technology lol. Thanks for showing us this reel Dennis!

That’s a beautiful reel but not the kind of reel I can use due to my vision. It is nice though. I just got a second Olympic Spark reel. It is an early skirted spool reel much like a Daiwa Punch reel I have in my collection. It says “ball bearing” but I’ll be surprised if it has more than just one on the pinion. It is a 3150 if that means anything to you. The seller claims it is NOS but I have my doubts. It is a hammer bail reel. I fish with reels like this as if using a manual bail reel. I don’t like slamming the bail. Will get it next Tuesday and then that will be for a while for me unless some Mitchell, Roddy , or Penn greenie comes along that I can’t resist. I did seven reels since Saturday. Don’t know how you can do this all day, every day. I simply don’t have the vision to do it. Great job on this video! You know me, I generally don’t care for Chinese-made reels. Oh, Dennis, the guy in Fremont, CA that I have gotten three large Mitchell saltwater reels form has put up some nice reels like mine on EBay that are very nicely painted in almost psychedelic colors. They are nice but different even weird particularly the lime green one! Look at them if you get the chance. They have the labeling on them “Mitchell Custom” but there is a 396, 486, and a 488. Unbelievable!

Thanks Chris. I will look that up. There are really nice custom bait examples around. I guess I am just a traditionalist that lets the history show through with the nicks and wear. Good luck with the spark. By the way, I don't do this every hour of every day/. I am retired! Dennis

2nd Chance Tackle I’m glad to know you don’t do reels all day every day. If I did that I would go perfectly nuts! I agree with you about keeping my reels as original as possible. I just wanted you to see them. I personally think they would sell better keeping them traditional. The sky blue and midnight blue original Mitchell colors are all but impossible to match. The Spark reel will probably be the last I get. Don’t really want any more than the two I have. I might get a nice Ryobi Silver Cloud some day. That would give me Daiwa, Penn, Olympic and Ryobi silver reels. Of course I love the Daiwa most. I have 5 now and almost got a 9000C recently. If I get that one I’m done with the Silver Series. I’m much more interested in all the Penn greenies other than the 700 or 704 and the Penn Z reels again other than the 706Z and 704Z. I am very interested in the Roddy large saltwater reels but you can’t find them as David has them all! LO|L

Great video. The question I have is how do I know if I should be using grease or oil when I'm "servicing"? I have both. For example should the worm gear be greases or oiled?

I generally grease the gears and oil the other moving parts. I don't like to grease the worm drive as the grease traps dirt and sand and bogs down the mechanism over time - Thanks for asking - Dennis
